As an out and out striker, it hasn't really worked for him here, but there's no denying he puts in the miles with his work rate and puts himself about. His control is pretty good (it was just his final shot that was letting him down).

Which is odd when you think of the two goals he's scored for us. Both really confident strikes. The belter v Villa and that goal against the Dugout Inventors where he absolutely wellied it

The £7.5m post looked like a wind up to me.

Apparently Adam Leventhal the Athletic correspondent for Watford said there is an interest but its early stages.

So nothing sorted.

If he goes, good luck to him. Good signing in the first place and has served the club well. He has limitations but made over 100apps for a PL team - not many lads brought through our Academy can say that.

On his best form I think Stephens is decent. At his worst makes too many mistakes. Unfortunately he's far more the latter than the former. He seem only to maintain his best form for a very small number of games in succession, which ultimately is the reason some players are highly coveted; because they can maintain high standards for tens of games rather than just 3 or 4.

I hope he goes to Watford or wherever and does well.

Absolutely agree. Have criticised him in the past, but more often than not he has been more than adequate back up.

Stephens and bedders out and Carleta Car in.

Diallo out and use Mcarthey as leverage to get Garner.

Hudson Odoi and Delap in loan, buy, kidnap

What a window that would be....

Sell all the deadwood to execute the above plan.

I put it less down to loss of form, and more down to a law of averages. The more he plays the more likely he is to make an error. The more under pressure, the more likely to make an error. The more he has the ball, the more likely he will make an error. An most importantly, the better the opponent, the more likely an error is punished (and thus remembered). I think he just made one or two too many errors that were punished.

I always thought he was really good on the ball. Very composed and classy. A premiership level type CB. It's just that he would make a horlox of it every now and then, which severely undermined that `classy' tag. Finding `good defenders that can play' is almost impossible. With the new rules, VAR and the general pace, power and talent you have to face every week, CB has become such a tough position to play.

In recent times I thought he had lost a yard and looked way too casual. He looked very rusty in the games towards the end of last season. I think he will do very well in the Championship.

Best Watford source there is.

Garner at 14mil would make a lot of sense. Good player and very Saintsy.

Very Morgan-esque type player in that he keeps things ticking over, gets play started and a decent spoiler. He will go unnoticed by many in a lot of games, but his quality with the ball allows him to do things effortlessly. Personally I thought Flynn Downes was the better of the two players (and similarly priced). With the Lavia signing already made, I'd be surprised if we were in for him.

I don’t want to be mean to Jack but I think 122 PL appearances is more of a reflection of how consistently poor our recruitment has been than anything else. A few less Hoedts, Dansos and Bednareks and you’d probably looking at a quarter of that number.

We’re one of several Prem clubs to have shown an interest in James Garner according to David Ornstein of the Athletic. United want £14m for him, was on loan at Forest last season

Who?
Never hear of him. If he is such a great player why can’t he get into the worst united team in years?
Who has seen him play and where as people reckon he’d be great for £14 million 😮

who are the united reserve team watchers on Saints web?

He did a good job for Forest in the championship a couple of seasons I think. Never watched him play though

I dont see it so much as loss of form more that he raises his game for very short periods and returns to his "norm" the longer he plays. I think the opponent (although I get what you're saying) doesn't make much of a difference.

Either was, not good enough for us but a proper professional footballer.

Leicester stick out like a sore thumb in that list.

And Brighton have 80m burning a hole in their back pocket.

Assume thats an FFP thing catching them up?

Vardy linked with Man Utd today, and Tielemans still expected to go to Arsenal, Fofana possibly still going to Chelsea. Can see a few outs, and then reinvesting, a bit like Everton to get around the FFP issue

Have to be careful. Too many players in , another season of upheaval and transition.
It took time for the automisms in the 42221 system.

When we play the system well we can beat anyone.

Just think is a case of be careful what you wish for.

Im happy with this team.

Too many people on here playing Championship Manager methinks.  Lets go and sign another 5 players - no worries.  Actually that would be a disaster as how would they all integrate?

We need a striker and (possibly) RB cover but otherwise we should be good.

Bednarek, McCarthy, Stephens, Redmond, Walcott, Moi out and it will have been an excellent window.  Plus we have some talented youngsters it would be good to see in spells.

Bonkers when they already have better. Not sure what their plan is this summer, feels very scattergun.

Like someone said above, Ziyech and Pulusic and probably CHO if given game time are all on a different stratosphere than Antony bloody gordon.

i would give my left hand for either of those two players on our team - paying 90 min every week. At some point, you would think these players get sick of languishing on the bench in the prime of your career?

I think of a guy like Shaqiri.. which do you think he enjoyed more? His 3 years at Stoke or his 3 years at Liverpool?

Would love to get James Garner. Worth watching his skills videos. Fantastic player with a tremendous all round game. Lavia is very young and with Oriel slowing down I think this guy would be perfect for us. Wouldn't mind betting he'd become one of the first names on the team sheet.

Leicester are such a bizarre club. Presumably FFP is catching up with them now? Or wages etc

Yes seems bizarre when you have forest buying like 12 / 13 players. I guess they had a lot to replace and their wage bill is (was) low. It will bite for them once they discover some of their signings are shit and they can't move them on

I mean as long as you're winning the PL and CL and playing about 20 apps / season I imagine you're fairly happy.

It's when you're frozen out completely like CHO and Ziyech seem to be at the moment that you'd probably start to look elsewhere.

I watched him about ten times last season, including three live games. Brother in law is a Forest nut...

To be honest he's one of those players that you don't really notice unless you are looking for him. When you do, you see a confident guy that is extremely important to how Forest played. He's not flashy, just very efficient. He has a good range of  passing. I'm not a huge fan. I just didn't focus enough on him to come away seeing him as something special. That doesn't mean he isn't, he just didn't grab my eye. My brother in law, who watches Saints a lot, and has a decent eye for a player likened him to Morgan. Gets it from the thrower, fullback, keeper etc, and has the touch needed in tight spaces and quality to keep it, before giving it. That's what CMs need to do.

I did wonder whether Leicester might consider cutting their losses on Patson Daka.  Seems like he's still a bit part player there and not getting many minutes.

I'd of thought the'd try to offload Iheanacho first, but guess it depends if anyone makes an offer.

Makes you wonder why he doesn't get in a bad Man U team

To be fair, I think he might need some time to find his feet in the Prem, time that United don't have, but I think most Man U fans are not impressed at seeing him linked with a move away and would like to see him being given a chance after a very good loan spell.

If Stephens if off could Pambou do a job looks like a bit of a unit..

Simeu is probably ahead of Pambou in the pecking order given he has already played first team football in the Football League and been training with the Saints first team.

Interested to hear what your bro-in-law is saying about Forest signing 57 new players?!

Very comfortable and pleased with the dealings. He says they needed to bring in a lot of players and very happy with the quality of player they have managed to get.

Firstly they "didn't have a choice", as they had quite a few loans last season that played a lot of games. Spence was always going to Spurs, Davis was always going back to Villa and United wouldn't deal on Garner. Zichernigel went back to Watford and was an option, but they saw better value/quality elsewhere. They also had quite a few out of contract players that couldn't get games in the Championship, so were not going to play in the Prem. They took the opportunity to bring in quality, not just bodies,
They needed a new keeper as their current one called their bluff on a huge wage request. They needed keeper cover too.

The Lingard signing is painted as a no brainer. £80k a week plus performance related bonuses on a free. Even if there was a big signing on fee, its still value and no risk should they go down. He needs to play for a new contract. He loves Williams and Richards signings (although the latter got injured in pre season). He was worried about CM, but they has since signed a couple of strong players.

He's absolutely loving life back, although its impossible to get a ticket home or away this season. Corp hospitality and home ends will be the only way he sees them live.

Simeu needs a loan at good League One or Championship level. I reckon he’s good enough for it!

Walcott, McCarthy, Bednarek, Stephens need to go. Diallo if a sufficient offer comes in, IF we have real interest in Garner.

Full Back cover and a wide attacking player still desperately needed.

BUT this isn’t Football Manager and I don’t see that much more movement.

Shame the fee is probably pie in the sky stuff. Watford have spent £5m on a striker, so it seems unlikely they will spent more on a CB.

I still can't get my head around why they'd want him, would be a weird one.

Broja is done as far as I'm concerned. I don't see any way back for him here given Ralph's comments in the fans forum last week.
