Yup - I was expecting maybe Bournemouth or Bristol City. Think he's just about to have a baby, rather than had one already, but yeah.  One to keep a eye on...money talks at the end of the day and Watford would be a decent move for him, and good money.

Struggling to get rid of other squad players from what I've been told. Offers in for Lis & Macca, so expecting one to leave.  Club would prefer to get rid of Macca as on higher wages. Rejected offer for Diallo as we need cover.

Medical booked for Weds apparently....🤞

We should accept the offers for Diallo and get Garner or Ampadu on loan from Chelski

Makes sense to get rid of McCarthy, crazy giving him a new deal. Had some fun with my Man U mates this weekend getting into them about him joining them.

Not surprised we’re struggling to shift them all will be on wages way above what clubs they are good enough for can afford. Maybe get rid of a few at the end of the window as clubs gets desperate either panic buys or loans.

Was going to type before the news on Diego Carlos’s injury that with the rock hard pitches - this week’s rainfall won’t make much difference - that medium to long term injuries elsewhere may create openings to move for the likes of Bednarek, Redmond and Ely, moves they would consider.

Bednarek might do OK at Villa if that happened, I don’t think he’s been on it at SFC for a while hence the Man City cup thing, sarcastic applause v Watford and Saturday’s reaction to being subbed. As long as Villa don’t offer a really low ball fee I can see that happening.

If Gordon does go to Chelsea watch out for Everton coming back with an actual transfer offer for Che as well. That would free up funds for another couple of first XI players, maybe three if Garner is interested in joining and Diallo interest maintains. That might suit all parties as I like Diallo but I’m not sure the PL physically suits him, same as Ely.

We’re one of several Prem clubs to have shown an interest in James Garner according to David Ornstein of the Athletic. United want £14m for him, was on loan at Forest last season

I wonder if he still drives the Pontiac Firebird, always envied his lifestyle?

I don’t see why we’d bid for him if we already halve four central midfielders at the club.
JWP, Romeu, Diallo and Lavia - I don’t see any of them leaving.

Diallo hasn't really worked out particularly well so far and he has been linked with a move to Valencia earlier in the summer.

If the opportunity is there to recoup 8/10Million, that could be reinvested in Garner.

Hoping it's Diallo moving on and not JWP in final week shocker

I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but from what I saw on Saturday, I do wonder if Adam Armstrong could be utilised as one of the attacking midfielders. As an out and out striker, it hasn't really worked for him here, but there's no denying he puts in the miles with his work rate and puts himself about. His control is pretty good (it was just his final shot that was letting him down). His cross from the left on Saturday was a decent set up for Aribo's goal. I would imagine he could play left or right of an attacking midfield (no. 10?). I would really like it to work out for him here, and maybe it's an option.

Also a shout out to Djenepo. His willingness to take on a man has always been there, but his final ball has let him down. From what I've seen so far, he looks to have "upped" his game a notch or two and the final ball looks better.

So, this being the transfer thread, I would actually look to keep AA and Djenepo and not, as some have suggested, get rid of.

Just had a kid didn't he? Guess that makes sense to be closer to their parents, but that's a bloody long commute for training every day.  Not really many clubs down that way either, maybe Bristol City but all the other ones are a huge drop down.

Many people don't realise how 'long' the West Country is. I live in Cornwall now (born and raised in Swanwick), and a couple of weeks ago drove to Bristol and back. 378 miles round trip, and over 8 hours driving. I don't think our Jack would be doing that for training every day!

Regarding any possible transfer, I think he should definitely consider the Championship. I believe he has some good qualities, and will look back on his Saints career with pride, overall.

He has been willing, but not really able. When he comes on late in games he will usually just go for it, but often when starting games he has spent more time trying to get balls under control than actually going past people. I think everyone has been so keen to see him do well and blossom into Mane II, but he's just not done it. I think we've always said that he's still young. So, maybe this will be the year that it all clicks.

Shame to see Stephens leave, and I'm a bit surprised to see him going to a Championship. He was very good for us at the beginning of last season and unfortunate to lose his place (I think he got injured or suspended?). He'd be a good choice for any of the lower set of PL teams.

If he wants to be a 1st choice starter then he'll need to drop to the Championship. I think he is our 5th best centre back. If he is 5th best at a club that came 15th last season then which other PL club would regularly start him?

I hate to break it to you, but that last sentence is us, and he isn’t a good choice.

I thought he did a pretty good job of beating his man a number of times against Leeds. Remains to be seen whether that's a one off or not but he certainly seems to have improved in my eyes

I think Diallo only works as a holding midfielder in a midfield three, I don’t see that being out long term strategy so if he wanted to move then I wouldn’t blame him.

Hasn’t been brilliant but hasn’t been terrible.

I agree with @Saint Keef about Adam Armstrong being better utilised as a wide player coming in, I could see that working really well as another option.

As for Jack Stephens, again love his passion and aggression but his ability will hold him back.

It’s still a fair point, 4th choice CM and even Aribo/Stu/Ely can play there at a push

Pushing for Garner seems odd considering;

- He’ll likely be swapping one bench for another

- We need other positions at a priority abd 14m represents roughly 25% of our spend to date

Stephens is crap and should have been moved on ages ago, if he didn’t show half of his passion then he’d of recieved even more abuse from the fanbase unfortunately

What do you want me to say ? Do you want me to blow smoke up his ass and call for him on the team sheet every week ?

Im not the sort that would ever boo him or not support him on the pitch but I do wince when I see his name on the team sheet and our reliance on players of his ability is a large part of why we find ourselves where we are

This is a forum, where we discuss Saints, and Im sorry but he isn’t good enough, and Im sure he doesn’t care what I think either as he collects his salary

Was very good at the start of last season before injury. Remember the United game with the great moment of him giving Fernandes a bollicking. I do think its time for him to move on though, particularly if he wants to be a starter.

Still think hes a better option than Lyanco, which was a bizarre signing. Expressing his appreciation of the club/fans in person or on social media doesnt win us football games the last I checked.

On that Watford forum someone is saying they are paying £7.5 mil for Stephens.

Even though that's probably about right, I had hoped for slightly more purely because he's English. Was hoping more for £10 Million. I'd rather keep him than Begnerak purely on the grounds that the latter seems a shoe-in to start all the time and so I assume that will continue. Also, Stephens seems to do alright against the big teams that play football.

I think we’ve got more than we ever thought we’d get out of Jack, I think he cost us 100k from Plymouth. And to be fair he's somewhat achieved great things from a humble beginning. I doubt many would have put him for playing PL football (and making 70 odd apps in the PL).

He's a good lad to have around, but in this league you need more than just good lads. If he does go I hope he’s a success at Watford, he's served his purpose here and more than repaid our investment in him.

I don't think he's ever really going to be a PL CB, but if he plays regular in the Championship he'll probably be seen as a good player for that level. He’s certainly a good character and a good sort, but in the end it boils down to quality and he doesn't have the required quality to help us.

122 PL appearances. 151 in all competitions.

I didn't see the game, so that's good to hear.

We've really lacked flair and the ability to beat a man. Since Boufal left, Redmond has been the only person that can actually nip past someone, and that tended to only gain him half a yard of space. He didn't then have the pace to take advantage of an opponent selling them self.

We really need a Zaha-like player that take a man on, drive into space and open the game up.

151 appearances for £150,000. Even if some weren't great, and we've spent a damn sight more on his wages, still a pretty good return and whoever scouted him at 17, did a decent job.

got to say, I find it very hard to price up Stephens. Trying to think of a comparable transfer. Not huge sums paid by Championship sides for CBs. Villa did spent £20m on Tyrone Mings, but I think that was after they had been promoted back to the Prem rather than when in the Championship.

Agree with that.

We got some good moments from him as a 3rd/4th choice CB. A few goals and also the superb shithousing of the weasely Bruno Fernandes.

I wish him well.

He was part of that team that went up to Anfield and won under Puel, and he did brilliantly.  I've loved his energy and his passion, and his shithousery, but as a first team player he just made far too many mistakes to be taken seriously as a first choice defender. Let's be honest, he's probably been here longer than he thought he would have been and should have been.

Best of luck to him though if it is true. £7.5m is fine.
