Normally I would try and refute it cos I went to Everest on the Tibet side but I guarantee on your trip to see this mountain there were more women in bikinis.

Not sure any player will want to join our club with the shit that’s going around in the press etc.

Pretty sure agents will be clued up with it when we coming knocking on the door for players.

If this is true that the changing room is split then I personally think we should be getting a new manager in so he can at least attract a couple of players we desperately need.

Really does highlight that whoever leaked this was out to somehow damage the club. Which in itself is interesting.

Marco Silva was bemoaning his lack of wing options in his press conference yesterday as Harry Wilson and Manor Solomon have both picked up 'long term' injuries. I wonder if we can shift Redmond or Moi on to Fulham, their wages (and other deadwood) really limits their suitors.

Haven’t we been through this small squad size thing before? And we ended up having to play a load of kids who were nowhere near ready and got pummelled?!

Every club needs some squad players, and players like Redmond, Elyounoussi, Stephens are probably fine as squad players. As long as they’re happy not plying every week. I find it baffling that we could end up having no players with any experience on the bench, and only having kids who are L1/2 level.

Quick summary of the Athletic article today from Jacob:

- no offers in june/july for any players

- Monitoring experienced CBs in premier league already.

Could be open to selling for the right price:

-Jan/Jack/Diallo/Moi/Theo/Che

Effectively, a lot of the same stuff as it’s all been all summer.

Theres a lot of: “would like player x, if we can shift player y” - and then, as you say, they also said with had no offers for anyone.

This. Plus the formation tweaks make it slightly odd to utilise certain players as players are being bodged into positions.

Who in their right mind is going to be bidding for the likes of Stephens, Djenepo, Bednarek, Walcott etc.

Players either that are past it or simply not good enough. Is it any real surprise no one has made any bids for our players? 🤨

Stephens is exactly the kind of player that a newly promoted team would spunk silly monye on tbf.

Pretty crazy that there’s a list of 6/7 players, which accounted for probably half of our starting 11 last season, that literally no other club wants. Yet people still don’t think Ralph’s done a respectable job keeping that team in the league without coming anywhere close to relegation…

It's the same problem we had with the unsellables batch 1. We pay them too much in wages which doesn't match their ability, so clubs aren't willing to pay them the same and the players don't want to take a paycut. They'll wait it out.

for example I think Stephens is on 50k ish a week, which is ludricous for a Championship level CB. It's no wonder there are no takers.

We needed to shift Lemina, Boufal and Hoedt

then we needed to shift Bertrand, Austin and Vestergaard

Then it was Forster and Long

the shifting have morphed to Walcott, Stephens and Djenepo

who’s next?

Exactly what I was going to post!

RH has his limitations, but the factor that has most impacted Saints over the past few years is the quality of player.  Will be interesting to see which of these previous first-team stalwarts get moves to other premier league clubs.

As an aside......have any of our previous coaching team got jobs elsewhere?

Well Elyounoussi, Redmond, Walcott and Djenepo are all in the last years of their contracts so - unless we want to extend - it makes sense that they would all be up for sale as this would be our last real chance to get any return for them (might also explain why we won't get any offers if they can be picked up for free next summer or at least dirt cheap in January). Romeu and Valery are in the same boat so could potentially also move on if we didn't want to extend. As for Stephens and Bednarek - moving them on would make some sense if we are already tracking an experienced replacement as we already have Salisu, ABK, Lyanco and potentially Valery at CB (though I wouldn't count him as an out and out CB personally). Likewise the arrival of Lavia may have made Diallo somewhat expendable as he hasn't really kicked on since we signed him a few years back.

Can't help but think getting this sort of information out in the public domain (i.e. leaking it to the Athletic ourselves) would have been more useful at the start of the window rather than waiting until the start of the season if we did want to shift some of them.

The small squad thing was identified by the club itself as a weakness after the awful 2020-21 season (a season which a lot of fans already seem to have blacked out completely it seems as most of the focus now seems to be on last season only). To go back on that and suggest we would be OK without that sort of depth, especially now that 5 subs are allowed is madness really.

Perhaps 'smaller first team squad' is a component of #pathway? More opps for youngsters on the bench.

Just hope we don't renew any of those ones that are expiring. Still shocked how long Stephens has to run, he obviously has a good agent.

We seem to shift back on forth on it (too big/not enough quality), (too small, not enough depth)

Personally i'm more on board with a smaller squad but better first 11 than a bigger bloated squad, especially as we're supposed to be a club that offers a pathway from our u23 team.

I think reality is we are never going to get down to 20/21 this season (so it is pretty moot point) as we aren't going to find takers for all those players.

Next in line will be the next clutch of players we bought in who had potential, that we are hoping to flip, that don't reach their potential or regress.

I don't think he's done a respectable job, I'd feel differently if he'd amassed the points regularly and consistently over a season, we didn't have horror runs and absolute tonkings from time to time.  Not to mention formations and substitutions and the rest that has been discussed to death. Alos last season's horror run is still ongoing.
