Needs to sort his hair out but in all fairness has a decent rep here.

https://breakingthelines.com/player-analysis/jesper-karlsson-will-this-az-alkmaar-product-buck-recent-trends/

When games are tight, Karlsson can often make the difference, whether it’s a typically-powerful shot from distance, or using his excellent close control to work some space for a cross. I have no doubt that Karlsson will go on to move to a bigger club than AZ in future, but what will hopefully set Karlsson apart the 23-year-old from other Eredivisie exports is his drive to improve in the way he has done for AZ already.”

I'm not sure why do many people are so excited by his possible signing. Sure, he looks a talented lad, but he's a reserve player who can't make the England u19 team ahead of other kids who don't play first team football either. Compare that to Broja who was playing regular top flight football in Belgium, and for his country. If we signed a first team striker as starter and Delap in a permanent to develop I'd see the point, but if it were just him and/or we got him on loan I don't see the point.

Sadly this is a symptom of modern football more than anything else - as we're all seeing... The top clubs hoover up the best youngester, then play them in their academy / u23 sides or loan them out. More and more, these players are at clubs where their competing with your Kanes/Ronaldos/Lukakus/Salah's etc and they can't get game time. So whilst its reasonable to say Delap is unproven, you also can't right him off. Equally, if he was playing in a top 6 first team at 19 - we wouldn't be able to afford him!

Also, before MLG gets in there(🤪), Broja played for Vitesse in the Eredivise, not the Jupiler Pro league - funnily enough alongside Openda, who did go back to belgium this summer (after a 2 year loan) before forcing a very reasonable move to RC Lens at a price we should probably have been all over (IMHO) 😙

Good snippet, thank you. I can't find any articles linking him anywhere that suggests the sort of fee we'd need to pay, but at a guess he'd probably be in and around the 10-15m bracket.

He looks sick on this you tube vid loves a Rabona cross and has a thunderbolt shot on him.. very impressive clip

Guess he must be good if he can do all that whilst feeling poorly. Imagine how good he is when he's feel well.

One of the guys I know who has links to the club did mention a Swedish player a while ago but it was suggested he was more a younger player in the Broja mould (I took that to mean it would be a loan from a big club rather than relating to them being a similar type of player)

I hope it is Karlsson though as who doesn't love a scissor kick or some long rangers banged in the top corner.

Agreed if we can get Ings for a good deal makes sense proven goal scorer. 👍

Why wouldn't anyone want Ings at the right price?

If Fred Smith who had no prior connection to Saints was 30 and scored 7 goals last season, would you be clamouring to offer him a £100k+ contract?

Did Fred score 34 goals in 67 games prior to that season for a pretty poor Prem side?

If it means staying in the Premier league then yes.....

Who else currently has 7 goals in them? 🤣🤣🤣

Ask the scouts, and if they don’t have an answer then sack them.

I remember you mentioning that one, I think a lot of us took it as meaning Elanga from Utd.

But to be fair Karlson is still classed as one of the new crop of 'young players' for Sweden, so who knows!

Some lovely volleys in there and one or two tremendously hit balls as well. Kind of like the Armstrong video, but maybe a little more quality.

I like the sound of this Fred Smith fella. Can we get him in cheap?

Back in the day, we were regularly linked with Fred Bloggs, but he was only ever an average guy.

Not sure if it's just me, but I'm not getting the fuss over Dennis. He had a 6 month purple patch at the start of the season, and then went missing after all the chatter about AFCON. I don't think he's worth the 20-25m they're asking for.

Probably going to be completely wrong, but I feel like Forest this season may be like Fulham a couple years ago where they have had to replace a few too many loan players from their promotion season and may struggle having all their signings gel - may be on my own with that thinking!

Video reminded me of the Elyounoussi Basel ones before we signed him.

The Eredivisie is so hard to judge players - Jahanbakhsh absolutely bossed it and was a total non event in the PL.

Karlsson clearly has a good shot but looks pretty slight and also not rapid so would have to be superb technically to make an impact in the PL.

It's a curious approach, it'll be interesting to see how it goes. They're not the only team who have tried building an entirely new team and have struggled, I remember Spurs when they reinvested all that Bale money. Our effort in 2014 was more of an anomaly in the main.

They're having a go though, the least they can do really as they are so short on quality without those loan players.

Rumours of attitude issue - issues in Belgium about not sitting in his normal coach seat due to COVID protocols, police stop gesture and seemingly issues on loan in Germany. Nothing specific from Watford, had a great start but certainly some finger pointing from senior players that some of the squad were only really at full work rate for 70 minutes. Could do well but could be another Wesley Hoedt as well.

You could replace this with….

Not sure if it's just me, but I'm not getting the fuss over Broja. He had a purple patch at the start of the season, and then went missing after February. I don't think he's worth the 20-25m they're asking for.

Yeah, fair point! I wouldn't pay £25m for Broja either tbh. I rate him as I've seen more of him, but still not enough to pay that much.

Agree.

Most fans (I believe) think the Beattie was a decent player for us.  He was very much a streaky player though.

I'd welcome Beattie right now.

Broja is only 20 though. So much more potential

Yeah, I know. I’d love Saints to lash out on Broja, I think he’s class. But…

a) I don’t think the club would pay the approx £25-£30m he would command

b) from a financial perspective, and only if the recruitment is right, there is potentially much better short term value out there with an ‘unknown’.

edit, and c) I don’t reckon he’d come here anyway

Would imagine he’s out of our financial orbit, but Noni Madueke was mentioned in the John Percy / Telegraph Leicester article (along with Colwill) as targets they want to sign (but have to clear players out first).

Re: Dennis/Watford.  Not seen Sarr linked with too many clubs over here.

Decent player, but clubs may be baulking at the fee (I've seen £40m+ mentioned) and his injury record.

Here’s a fantasy type poser, Cornet or Karlsson? Cornet probably slightly more expensive and definitely more in wages but offers more in versatility and can definitely score goals in the premier league. Karlsson cheaper and more of a risk but being very right footed means he would fit into that left number 10 role better than Cornet.
Personally I’d edge towards Cornet but I think the club would see Karlsson as fitting into the system better.

Depends... did Fred have a 22 goal PL season a few years back?

If we’re including goals from a few years back in the table we don’t need a striker at all. Walcott scored 21 for Arsenal, that’s pretty much the same without spending a penny.

Karlsson got more league goals and assists from the same position as Sinisterra (also same age) who just went to Leeds for 25m. He's not going to be a cheap option no matter what Transfermarkt says.

Ah, ok. To be honest I hadn’t heard of him till tonight. He seems alright but big gamble for that price

now you're just being silly

Why? There were many people talking how good he once was at Arsenal when we first signed him two years ago and how ‘coming home’ might see him back to his best from a few years ago. Why is a season Ings had three years ago relevant but Walcott’s past glories aren’t?

Are we actually linked with him? Reckon that's one of the best youtube clips i've seen posted on a saints transfer thread... He's got some serious skill/ability with a football.

He has pace power and skill, everything you look for in a modern day striker and he s only 20, easily worth that money
