The reported "sky-high pay packet" would probably scupper that plan.

Trouble is, a player like him will never get the same kind of deal he is on at Chelsea with another club. He either needs to lower his salary demands or face the prospect of being a player that will only make the occasional appearance in a cup game.

Think we need to be all over Dembele and Karlsson…think that would give us the potential for a much more positive season IF they can step up to the EPL of course.

On paper we would have the strongest squad we’ve had for quite some time and give Ralph something to tinker with. Mmm, actually thinking about it, perhaps it’s not such a good idea after all!🤪🤔😏

If we sign those two and JWP/KWP don't leave, I call that our best ever transfer window.

My nephew has played against Delap numerous times at youth / U23 level, and he reckons he is a similar type of player to Broja, but technically better.

He was absolutely spot on with his assessment of Tino this time last year, having played against him loads as well, so that's good enough for me.

Interesting, thanks. The difference for me is that Broja had played regular men's football at a decent league level, and international level. However talented Delap may be, he isn't proven in men's football at any level. I wouldn't pin our hopes on staying up on his talent.

Broja who was playing regular top flight football in Belgium, and for his country.

SBV Vitesse Arnhem are a Dutch team, not Belgian. Broja wasn't really a regular international until he joined Saints.

Neither was Tino. Didn't stop him having an instant impact though.

There have been no quotes directly attributed to him saying that.

Don’t be ridiculous - he’s hardly likely to be as blunt or stupid but that’s not to say he hasn’t said it to one of his representatives.

Two sources have reported along these lines. It's very far from watertight, but when we're trying to read the runes, we can lower the probability that he will join

Needs to sort his hair out but in all fairness has a decent rep here.

https://breakingthelines.com/player-analysis/jesper-karlsson-will-this-az-alkmaar-product-buck-recent-trends/

When games are tight, Karlsson can often make the difference, whether it’s a typically-powerful shot from distance, or using his excellent close control to work some space for a cross. I have no doubt that Karlsson will go on to move to a bigger club than AZ in future, but what will hopefully set Karlsson apart the 23-year-old from other Eredivisie exports is his drive to improve in the way he has done for AZ already.”

Arsenal, West Ham, and Man United want him. I mean, it COULD happen. But it doesn't seem very likely, even in a Keegan way

Dutch then - thanks for highlighting that he'd proved himself at an even higher level of men's football than I said.

That's disingenuous about international football. He made his Albania debut almost a year before he signed for us, had 6 caps before he signed for us, and had 10 caps and 3 goals before he'd scored a league goal for us.

Them is actual facts Matthew.

Delap has done nothing in men's football.

If you're nephew plays for Everton U21s i will most likely be watching him play in october.

Neither was Simeu or Small. Didn't stop them having zero impact. Tino then faded anyway of course. We need a striker who'll hit the ground running. By all means have Delap and give him time off the bench, but it's crazy to be advocating him as our main striker solution imo.

Interesting link and definitely the kind of winger I'd hope we'd be going for.

17g & 13a in the league last year in his second season in Holland. Only our mate Dusan had more G&A (32) in the entire league.

Passes the Youtube tricky winger test.

Where is the link? I’ve not found anything linking him to us.

We definitely will be right in it, because atm, it's 2 weeks til the start of the season and we don't have goals in the side. It's a big concern. But I think Ralph is a good enough manager to get a tune out of these players, as he has continued to do so over the years. We've made some decent signings, Bazunu and Lavia especially look class, but whether they'll be enough to keep us in the league we will see.

I still think we need major surgery in the attacking positions, because relying on Djenepo, Elyounoussi, Armstrong, Walcott and Redmond is clearly not the right thing to be doing. Formation will probably decide how many we need to have in each position, but IMO, we need an attacking midfielder better than all of those named above, and a striker better than Adams and Armstrong.

Forest are building quite a nice team, but might take some time to gel. Fulham and Bournemouth, can't imagine they'll be anything but relegation contenders, then you have Leeds, Brentford and Everton who may or may not be involved. Personally I think it's unlikely Palace, Brighton, Villa, Wolves will be sucked in. We're coming off some terrible form at the end of last season, and we only won 9 games all season. It could go either way, but with this squad, personally I don't see us finishing above 15th.

Good post agree with that, appalling run of form at the end of last season and as things stand our starting XI could be weaker, if that form continues I think Ralph could be on thin ice.

Leeds at home seems a big game already in Matchday 2.

He was coming on as a sub for Albania before he signed for Saints. That isn't being a 'regular'.

Bless. He had 10 caps and scored 3 goals for Albania before he scored a league goal for us. Don't forget  the season on the Dutch (better than Belgian!) league.

It's ok to be wrong sometimes Matthew, most of us acknowledge it though.

Good snippet, thank you. I can't find any articles linking him anywhere that suggests the sort of fee we'd need to pay, but at a guess he'd probably be in and around the 10-15m bracket.

£12m on Transfermarkt, only signed a new contract 6 months ago though

Impatient for a striker signing, but expect somethig out of the blue like the Ketchup guy. We badly need improvement up top.

Somehow I think we might get Ings back: not saying I want him, and it wouldn't be very 'Saintsy', but I just have a feeling somewhere inside.

Or it might be the sardines and eggs I had at lunch.

Why wouldn't anyone want Ings at the right price?

Who could sign Jesper Karlsson?

  • Club: AZ Alkmaar
  • Position: Forward
  • Age: 23

Another shining light of the Eredivisie this season has been AZ Alkmaar's Swedish attacker, Jesper Karlsson.

It is no exaggeration to suggest that he is probably the closest clone to Neymar during his time at Santos. A thoroughly exciting talent that brings together a lot of good qualities to the table.

Breaking through in Sweden with Falkenbergs and then Elfsborg, Karlsson arrived in the Netherlands in the summer of 2020 signing a five-year deal with Alkmaar.

Last season, he scored 12 goals and made 9 assists in all competitions aiding Alkmaar's push for qualification to the UEFA Europa League.

He has followed it up in a similar fashion this season, maintaining the level of performance and output in his displays.

As a forward, Karlsson is adept across the frontline in different roles, but he is most adept when deployed on the left with an aggressive fullback who can link up well with him, just as Owen Wijndal does at Alkmaar.

Karlsson is full of flair, loves dribbling past his markers and has a sumptuous first touch. He is part of a new and exciting group of young footballers coming through for the Swedish national team.

Normally favouring his right foot when shooting, Karlsson is able to generate a lot of power in his shots which makes him a threat from distance as well as within the penalty box. His long-range shooting is a noteworthy feature of his play.

The Swede's numbers are excellent this season, he is well on course for double digits for both goals and assists

His underlying numbers are encouraging too, averaging 0.39 xG/95 and 0.27 xA/95.

This lad looks decent. Plenty of assists too.
