Tete looked fantastic in Shakhtar's win against Real Madrid last season. Was only 20 at the time.

Getting Livramento for £5m was one of our best signings for the money in recent years, but if we get this guy for free then it'll be pretty comparable imo, wages depending as Tino is on very little.

I wouldn't use "biblical" as I am not a religious man, maybe phenomenal. Still needs to get over the line though.

Biblical bit of business

Not even at the Tete-a-tete stage yet.

Bit of a whiff of Quincy Promes about this one. I'll believe it when I see it (and in that respect, it will be a very loud statement by the new owners if they do manage it).

Seeing as the league wouldn't let Burnley sign Moses (more biblical puns incoming) on a free from a Russian club, I'm guessing we would just ask this chap to wait until the new season, can other leagues give him football straight away? Might swing things away from us.

If we have 'won the race', and considering I doubt we can offer more money than the likes of Everton, West Ham or Leicester, plus surely teams like Ajax and Milan have more pull, then I can only presume 1. he really wants to play in the Premier League, and 2. We have offered him some sort of stepping stone promise that those other clubs likely are unwilling to.

Is this chap another Mané or Djenepo? (I confess to never having heard of him before)

Or a modern and EPL version of Guly Do Prado ?

Just hope he's not a Mayuka Mk II.

Good player by all accounts.  Questionable source.

Yep, that is totally and unashamedly what we have said we will be doing. Damn right too.

Hopefully they'll bring back the 'all aboard the Ralph train' animation.  Picking up Tete at Donetsk station and spiriting him across Europe to safety whilst Russian forces close in, like the opening credits of Dad's Army.

We have developed Mane and Tadic in his position as a club and Ralph has developed a number of other promising players both here and at RBL. Maybe we can offer more progression as a player than Everton, West Ham, and Leicester. That coupled with wanting to play in the prem.

I think we are an incredibly appealing side to young players now, looking at a top half finish giving youngsters regular minutes and not standing in their way when they want to move to greener pastures.

Could be the Genesis of new era at the club,  although I'll be satisfied if there isn't an Exodus of our best talent.

Don't really know much about Tete but if he's more like a traditional winger then I'd expect him to show some good early promise before Ralph gets him to concentrate on working against the ball and an emphasis on tracking back.  Obviously hope he's great but I'm not sure that wingers are particularly suited to the 4222 formation - if you look at Redmond, Djenepo and Walcott none of them impress quite as much as they would do in a traditional winger role (and, yes, I'm aware that all of those have issues besides being traditional wingers).  Just think that players like Stuart Armstrong and Elynoussi who are more like converted midfielders seem to perform a bit better in that role.

Anyway, good thing about this (if true) is that presumably it'll give him a bit of time to settle into the area and club ahead of pre-season even if he can't play for us.  I guess we can also pick up the £400 a month for Ukrainian refugee money that's on offer which is nice.

Source in Brazil says he would move to us but spend the remainder of the season playing with Gremio in Brazil. I think that would be a good solution for all parties and something we would allow if it helped the deal.

From what I hear from Reddit and transfermarkt (plus seeing him once or twice in the CL) he isn't really a traditional winger. He plays mainly on the right despite being left footed and looks to cut in and beat players as well as to go for goal.

Looking forward to seeing him do well, impress other clubs, receive a big transfer fee from a top 4 club for him that fulfils our and his plans, and acts as yet another example of our appeal to other potential signings. Um... assuming he does sign. 😊

Honestly can’t see us getting Teté given he has been linked with a lot of Europe’s top clubs, and those that are competing in the European competitions.

Naturally would welcome it but don’t see it as a “Saints-type signing”.

It's not all football skills, of course. His rise to superstardom, through a stint with us, can be helped by having a personable image. I'm looking forward to hearing him in interviews. A tete-a-tete with a local journalist?

You do realise that we cannot sign him until the summer, even if we actually want him at all?

There's definitely an announcement from the club that we've won the race is there? I think i missed it.

Great news! Clearly Lyon are one of the clubs being purchased by Dragan over the summer for the SR Portfolio as a feeder club for Saints.  A real show of intent.

I won’t relax until the club wheel out someone like Les to tell us he is relaxed about the situation…

… the day before the player signs for someone else

Doesn’t sound great. Moving Romeu on would be a very, very big mistake. Up there with letting Fonte go for me, I think we’d struggle to replace him.

He’s going to move on sometime or other but yes I get what you mean - will be hard to replace like for like.

Top player and top bloke. Been one of the best signings we’ve made. Doesn’t sound too promising that though.

Sounds more to me like he’s engineering himself a move away. Either way, big loss if he goes.

Oriol has been one of our successes in recent seasons, throughout all the dross we had to endure.

But...at the start of next season he'll be 31. The club may have briefed him that we will be investing in a new number 6 in the summer to evolve his position, that's my hunch anyway. I reckon he'll stick around for next season and then leave on a free in 2023.

He'd be a big miss. But we don't know what's being offered/ wanted in the negotiations. I'm sure both the club and player realise how important he's been to us. We've been happy to bring back Walcott on presumably large wages and extend contract for Long. Romeu has been far more influential.

Shame we don't have the budget Werner being told he can leave Chelsea this summer. Was a good player under Ralph at RBL and says he had a great relationship with him.

Will probably head abroad.

I thought he was on 100ishk a week, so we might be able to meet in the middle - but apparently he's paid nearly 300k p/w. Shocking, he's no where near good enough for those levels of wages!

Those wages will price him out of a move to anyone.

This. Pay him what he wants or work in a coaching role. Just keep him. Still one of the best around. Reads the game so brilliantly.

Sort of player who is right up our street in terms of age and 'lesser' known. Not sure about him in great detail, 'decent' scoring record although no mind blowing numbers.

I will take any Newcastle link to any player with a pinch of salt, you'll see this all summer with every single rumour. West Ham also seem to get themselves 'interested' in every player as well, without actually being interested.

Yeah seems unlikely Newcastle will be in for another forward in that price bracket. They have Wilson and Wood, the next striker they buy I imagine will be a big spend on a £50m statement signing.
