Thought they had always been reasonably open about this.

But that infers that Belarus would be a willing partner, and other countries could be "invited" to join.

The reality would be far more in the style of Ukraine's "invitation", especially as Russia has today been shelling Kherson - legally, ( under Russian law ), sovereign Russian territory.

Yeah, wouldn't want to accept any of their invitations.

Apparently Russia had a 'test firing' of one of their ICBMs yesterday - just before Putin announced he was taking his ball and going home and not playing with the nuclear treaties anymore.

Would you believe that the rocket failed to launch.

All fear the mighty Russian bear :mcinnes:

Russia launched a whole salvo of S400 missiles from just outside Belgorod, only a few miles from the Ukrainian border. At least 3 exploded just after launch, the rest didn't reach Ukrainian territory.

Every time Russia mention nukes BBC radio 4 spend at least the next day obsessing about it, asking everyone on any programme breathlessly about escalation. Utterly tiresome lot.

Problem generally with media at times of war. Love to hype from any angle. As you say, tiresome.

Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Germany have all placed wrecked Russian tanks in front of the Russian embassies in their capitals. The embassy compound in Warsaw was awoken at 6a.m. by the sounds of air raid warnings and bombs exploding. The embassy in the Netherlands has had the Ukrainian National Anthem played outside it all day.

Yesterday, Lions Led By Donkeys poured yellow and blue paint on the road outside the London embassy, such that the traffic turned the road into a giant Ukrainian flag.

I wonder if the people working in these buildings, who are all directly exposed to Western media reports, continue to think that the SMO is justified, and working.

One year on.

Ukraine still stands.

They’re a lost cause, they will be finished in a couple of weeks (copyright April 2022).

I’m willing to bet the majority of them don’t, even those in Russia, but they continue to toe the line out of fear, lining their own pockets or a combination thereof.

Crazy that its been a year since this started, the Hostomel airport being taken by Russian paratroopers etc, before going spectacularly wrong after that.

Even Hostonel was a sign though of things to come. The elite paratroopers were destroyed within 12 hours by a part time unit that is the equiavsmt of Britain’s territorial army.

It was my Uncle Derek's birthday yesterday and having the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine on the same day was a helpful memory jog.  So from a purely selfish point of view yesterday was actually quite handy but other than that I think, like many others, that the war has been a bit shit.

On a similar note I've got a friend who has her birthday on 9/11 and that's been a real lifesaver - never used to remember her birthday before the twin towers crashed down.

Does anyone else know anyone with birthdays on major disasters or wars?

My father's birthday was Trafalger Day.

Also, as I wrote in my farewell letter to the people I worked with, ( on being made redundant ), my last day in the office was the anniversary of both the Battle of Waterloo and Churchill's "This was their finest hour" speech.

My anniversary with an ex. Was 9/11 and she was 3 minutes away from being a leap year baby, which made her birthday easy to remember too. Another ex. Had the same birthday as Hitler, she didn’t appreciate me singing, "happy birthday dear Adolf…" to her.

I wonder if the many countries opposed "Desert Storm 2" (lol) had done that outside the US and UK embassies, would those staff have seen the light and staged a coup back home?

Was Desert Storm initiated as a genocide ? Was it a war to occupy and assimilate Iraq, and erase it from history ?

One thing is for certain.  The West and more so, the USA, are the worlds leading leading light and moral compass for all to follow.

They might be if it weren't for Politics, ( or Religion ). To quote Winston Spencer Churchill, "...democracy is the worst form of Government, except for all the others that have been tried....".

I didn’t think that you were capable of irony Batman, but fair play here.

You’ve consistently shown just how daft you are are, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but are you really trying to imply that damage in a warzone means that Ukraine has fallen?

There is a grain of truth to this story. Last week I heard, possibly on the Jeremy Vine show that grey squirrels were to be culled to try and encourage the red squirrel population and it was suggested that the greys could be cooked and eaten.

Do they taste like chicken?
