Saints 1-1 Man City - Match Thread

Always have hope... it's 11 v 11 (well at least at the beginning for us)...if we can step it up against the bigger clubs...and them in particular as we've done in the past...we could get something out of the game. Man City should have lost to Arsenal and were super-lucky to win that. If they have a flat day and we play out of our skins and don't make any defensive errors...okay, okay, I heard myself say that - better stop here!

Don't think we should be afraid of city. We've shown in the past that we are more than capable of taking points of them, and we were robbed at the etihad earlier this season. Fancy that with a rocking St Mary's and a little bit of luck, we might have a Saints win incoming. At the very least I don't think we are going to lose.

Have to take the game to them 4222… press the life out of them 1st half and change to back 5 2nd half with sensible tactical subs at right time ..🙏🏻Then pray

Even though it says sell out, there are still tickets available that aren't on the Ticket Exchange:

Though admittedly, these are all basically singles except for the extortionately priced Block 31 which has about c. 40 seats priced at £89 each!

Did make me laugh when they said it's sold out,  although to be fair that's the most they've sold in block 31 this season, most of the time they sneakily reduce the price nearer the game to try to shift a few more "premium" seats

Tbf, they probably call it a sell out to enable them to sell a few cheaper tickets, instead of tickets going unused. Especially as the club get more money for a match ticket rather than a ST.

Yeah agree, I never thought I'd see a normal general admission match ticket at Saints selling for £89, just seems like crazy money, but maybe it's all relative, the 'Saints Bar' hospitality package doesn't give you much more and that's £270 per person for.this game, not surprisingly plenty of those still available,  it's why we rarely ever see a full attendance anymore

Bloody obscene isn't it. £270 to see the same match you could have paid £30 to see (season ticket price). Totally worth all that extra cash for the padded seat, two pints of pretty average beer and a "street food lunch".

Something for those of us living east of Portsmouth to bear in mind when driving to the game on Sunday. 😕

Thanks - was aware of this, thankfully, but it is a real piss take doing it on match days and this isn't the first time they have done it this season. How long have they been working on that stretch of road anyway? Five years? More? And the latest is that they are going to scrap "smart" motorways anyway, so perhaps they'll spend the same amount of time turning it back!

You can see Pep wants JWP to marry his daughter.

I believe Dele Alli is in a relationship with his daughter already!

That tweet must surely win an award for the most Saintsweb trigger statements in one post ;)

I mean it is classic Pep though, he is literally complimentary about every team before he plays them, and then has a cheeky grin on his face after he wins as he knows it was light work.

If anyone wants tickets I’ve just put 3 in The Chapel Block 18 Row 00 on ticket exchange due to unable to go stuck at home with Covid

My one in the Kingsland has gone back as well cos the wife is paranoid that we will get a positive test next week before we fly to South Africa !

I tried it for the Spurs game when I had Covid but in the end they never sold it 😩

Quite understandable. The problem with all this testing is that you can’t get excited about going or look forward to the trip until you’re actually there.

We’ve just come back from a two week trip to Barbados which involved a one week cruise. We each had five separate tests. A PCR to get into Barbados, a PCR two days before the cruise, an LF just before boarding, an LF on disembarking, another PCR on landing at Heathrow.

I took a gamble by going to the Tottenham game but I wore a mask all the way through it.

Blimey - for a guy that moans about ticket prices and being priced out a two week trip to Barbados suggests your doing alright …

Anyway.....back to the City game.      Am feeling a bit overwhelmed by all those "nice " comments from Pep about how good  WE are.

He certainly rates our captain  ...(so all those anti-Prowse critics who pop up here periodically need to stand in the other queue).

All those " so-called " pundits and ex-players who are raving about JWP, and want him to join Liverpool, WHam, Villa  etc, etc,

should realise that having Prowsey has been the key to whatever type of success we have had recently, and he's unlikely to move anywhere

and given such a situation,  our new owner would certainly be willing to match " any offer from elsewhere"  in order to keep Prowsey on board.

So ..we need another " Prowsey special "  to give Pep a good excuse for losing his 12 match winning streak, and a meaningful goal from Adam Armstrong

so that .... (as with Che Adams'  debut effort v. City a while back),   Adam A. can get some goals under his belt and gain more confidence.

At my age you have your priorities.

Me too but a two week trip to Barbados wouldn't be one of them. Right now I'd settle for a match day trip to St Mary's with zero risk of catching Covid and ending up on a ventilator. Believe it or not I am really looking forward to next Sunday when the kids play at the stadium and I'll get down there for the first time since this all began.

That apart, there seems to me to be very little prospect of Saints getting anything against City today. I have a feeling that it will be 'hide behind the sofa' time at 5.30pm. Just keep the goals against down lads, could be important later in the season.

Covid status checking is still in place at St. Mary’s according to the emails I received today.

It is but surely will be half hearted effort with it stopping a few days later anyway.

Same old crap from Pep, he bigs  everyone up before thrashing them.

He does it all the time, hands out compliments all over the place, remember the whole Redmond episode where he made him sound like one of the best in the world.

City due to drop some points, so anticipating an early red card for Laporte after 10 mins. Saints 1-1 City (Silva 27, Adams 41)

I fancy that as well, but 2-2 with Ward-Prowse first goal scorer.

Trains from the East OK, I'm relieved to say. Costs a bit more mind, due to more beers.. Pre-match pre-med probably needed more today with City's form at the moment..

Let’s be realistic here. City are on an immense run of wins and they are right at the top of their game. They’ve an incredible squad so it’s going to be tough but a free hit. 3-0 saints 😄
