Pilchards Posted 23 January, 2022 Share Posted 23 January, 2022 Ha ha ha Gareth Crooks on team of the week. Loads been said about Salisu but I’ve left him out because one week he’s great the other week he’s reckless. I like consistency so I went the City defender instead. Honestly you have to laugh as it’s called team of the week you Cnut which means the best players THAT week! PS - I reckon end of Feb he will be linking him with Liverpool with comments like ‘Liverpool deserve Salisu as they will take him further’

His 'team of the week' is mostly a list of who scored at the weekend and always feels half arsed. No doubting Laporte is a top defender but there is no question who the most impressive CB was at the weekend - admittedly Salisu had a lot more work to get through. I actually think as CB's go Salisu has been pretty consistent this season. He plays aggressively and gets tight to attackers so there are always going to be times he over commits but he seems to be worth the risks for the amount of times it comes good. I love having him in the side - absolute ball magnet (probably says something about his positioning and decision making) and think he's certainly one who could progress to the top level.
Sunglasses Ron Posted 24 January, 2022 Share Posted 24 January, 2022 By my reckoning, Walker Peters is the first Saints player to make his 'prestigious' Team of the Week this entire season. Think about that, about 20 weeks in and 220 spaces up for grabs and we make up less than half a percent of his picks. Even when we got that draw away to City he snubbed all our team. This wally is the epitome of everything that's wrong with the game and why we'll probably never put a crack in the glass ceiling above us. Prick.

angelman Posted 24 January, 2022 Share Posted 24 January, 2022 Never bother with Crooks. It's far too trite. As for the City vlog, afraid that I couldn't sit through 20 minutes of it. What I saw seemed to be a lot of tourists down for the day. To be wholly honest, if they stick in the boxes, that's the best place for them. I got a bit annoyed with 4 City supporters in front of me in the Kingsland and told them if they wanted to support City, that they probably should be in the away end. They got a bit huffy and said it's football, we're all here for a good time, blah blah blah. Nothing about diluting home support and atmosphere. I did get the moron who got in his words "depressed every time he sees a team like that, like Southampton just hoping for something on the break". Does he not understand the dynamics of football finance and the uneven playing field that the likes of City have created? Given he's a life long supporter, you'd have thought he would have remembered the League 2 days his club went through, and how they were before the Arabs turned up. I know that that's a bit subjective, but I think the point is pretty clear. Mystic Force Posted 24 January, 2022 Share Posted 24 January, 2022 Firstly it was a terrific game to watch. We got lucky that the woodwork was doing a lot for its money, and we had some great chances to get a second. Disappointed in the goal we conceded. Never got to see a replay of the foul that got them the free kick, so not sure if that had merit or not. What annoys me is when the commentators say its a tactical foul to stop a break away and then they immediately score from the resulting free kick, every bloody time! If anyone is complaining about the way we played then they have not watched enough football. when we had chances we ranged forward, when nothing was on we brought it back and looked to try again. This was not like at Liverpool where we scored in the 2nd minute and sat back the whole time. Just sitting back has been what did us in earlier in the season. Looks like the boss has some more confidence in the boys to play, or at least decided being too defensive is asking for trouble. Only passenger was Elyounoussi when he came on, Redmond was at least taking them on when he got the ball and making them work to get it back. Salisu was the player who had the best game on the pitch. He has got in trouble diving in at the wrong time in previous games seems to have figured that bit out (or city spend less time practicing diving than others) Refreshing to see the referee not giving stuff just because VAR flagged it. I thought it was a good performance by the ref to let it be a good free ranging contest. You could see Armstrong was trying to pull out of the challenge by dragging his trailing foot on the ground to slow his momentum. That ones a difficult one, two players going for a ball. and physics takes over with the loser of the race getting punished often, with the other player doing the same thing and it would be reversed if they had been beaten to it. Still not sure about that other one foul outside of box but no free kick presumably they had advantage afterwards. I think the ref did not want to give it because so much time had passed and it would seem ridiculous.

Several minutes after the incident VAR stopped the game and then somehow concluded that there had been a foul by Romeu outside the box. A ridiculous waste of time but it gave us a chance to have a breather and it broke up City's momentum. I agree about Armstrong. He tried to oull out but his studs scraped down Laporte's thigh. Probable yellow, never a red. Probably looked worse for anyone watching on television but nothing nasty in it for those who were at the game. It was a scrape of the thigh, and it looks painful, but it was purely superficial and there wasn't enough force to cause any serious injury which is why VAR decided it didn't need to be upgraded to a red. Loads been said about Salisu but I’ve left him out because one week he’s great the other week he’s reckless. I like consistency so I went the City defender instead. Honestly you have to laugh as it’s called team of the week you Cnut which means the best players THAT week! PS - I reckon end of Feb he will be linking him with Liverpool with comments like ‘Liverpool deserve Salisu as they will take him further’ My god, imagine being so breathtakingly stupid that you don't understand the concept of a team of the week f**king hell, that's almost impressive 😂

There is a difference in deliberately trying to hurt someone and being reckless though. Not that it proves anything but Keith Hackett thought it was a red. It may not be a stitch but if you enlarge the picture it looks like one. Perhaps I need new glasses? I wonder if we would be so forgiving of that tackle if it had been on JWP? Definitely not he’s our captain 😂no one scrapes skipper and gets away with it ! …some people saying it was nailed on red but looking at it again you can see stu has his eyes fixated on the ball all through the challenge and looked surprised wen he found a leg infront of him, no intent at all . But like you say the difference in reckless and intent is apparent. Edited 24 January, 2022 by Chris cooper
cambsaint Posted 24 January, 2022 Share Posted 24 January, 2022 With regard to City only being a "nouveau riche" club. Yes they are. I used to go and watch them at Maine Rd (right in the middle of Moss Side a terrible neighbourhood) only time I dared go near there at Uni. They were a proper local Manchester club unlike the glamorous Manure who even then had many no Manchester supporters. The certainly had some good times back then under the great and good Joe Mercer and the not so likeable Malcolm Allison. Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Mike (I'd walk a million miles to the end of your nose) Mike Summerbee were an outstanding team. Up till the Arab money and the Commonwealth Games Stadium (the Etihad) they were rather like us. Many years later I still have a soft spot for them and I like to see them doing well particularly if they are doing better Than Manure, Liverpool and any London club.
