SaintBobby Posted 5 February, 2022 Share Posted 5 February, 2022 He's been a good stopgap for sure. Next season he obviously won't be here. Who to go for? (Pope if Burnely go down? Henderson?)

As I said at the time. Not your hilarious suggestion that more than half of Burnley would walk into our first team 😂😂😂😂 You were wrong, but provided some great entertainment to us all. It was ages ago. Move on.

Did well when Valery had a brainfart and then 2 excellent saves at the death before the offside goal. Also he's probably in the top 3 keepers in the league for distribution. He was good and saved us at times,.makes you wonder why he'd been a free agent for so long, looked up for it

Willy C was my MoM - that save from Small's header very early on was especially memorable. Also thought the referee handled the game very well.
ErwinK1961 Posted 6 February, 2022 Share Posted 6 February, 2022 I’d give him another year. Get rid of McCarthy, Forster and Lewis, sign a number one, a young prospect and keep Willy.
Charlie Wayman Posted 6 February, 2022 Share Posted 6 February, 2022 He had an outstanding match yesterday and saved our blushes at the end. There had to be a reason why Man City and Chelsea signed him, yesterday we found out. Interesting dilemma for Hasenhüttl now. No more Willy jokes please unless they are along the lines of will he - won't he stay.
Badger Posted 6 February, 2022 Share Posted 6 February, 2022 Have to wonder if Forster or McCarthy would have charged over to the linesman to confront him about the offside decision. Assuming either would have kept out the shots in quick succession in the first place. Perhaps Willy should also be in charge of specialist training for 'influencing the refs and linesmen', something which normally I don't like to see, but others - especially at the top of the table - have perfected the art over many years.

I loved that yesterday - sort of shithousery I want to see from our players rather than limply accepting decisions.

That won’t have influenced the linesman. In the new world of VAR the offside protocol is a complete mess. It was a clear offside and it seemed to me that there was a short consultation between the referee and his assistant. It may be that the officials don’t normally operate under the VAR environment. And if that weren’t enough, he regularly takes a beating.

Only doubt was why he hadn’t raised his flag. Was he waiting on the ref to make the decision for him ?

He seemed unsure as to when he should raise his flag, I don’t think he had any doubt about the offside. There was then an anxious wait until the referee confirmed the decision. That’s iPhone of the problems with VAR.
Badger Posted 6 February, 2022 Share Posted 6 February, 2022 We’ll never know what would have happened had the ref started making his way back to the centre circle, oblivious to the offside. Perhaps rather naively I would have hoped the linesman raises his flag to draw the refs attention to it, not wait for the refs permission to ‘speak’. Without that, I wonder if he’d have ‘bottled it’. They are miked up these days anyway. No referee would ever not look at his assistant in such situations. He would never referee another game.

SuperSAINT Posted 6 February, 2022 Author Share Posted 6 February, 2022 So glad we signed him. We have legit needed 3 keepers this season. Doesn’t often happen.
