I wonder if he thinks about signing for another English club, "enough with the fucking willy jokes, whats wrong with you people?"

Good point, I hope he doesn’t pull out at the last minute.

OMG Christmas has come early for the punners - can we all stop playing with our Willys now?

P.S. Is the rumour we only managed to get him so quickly because he's injured true?...eye injury apparently...he's a one-eyed monster.

We won’t see him until New Years Day - “as he will need to be conditioned into the way we play”.

In that case he will have to learn how to slow his reactions down.

McCarthy, Cedric, Hoedt, Lemina, Austin and Long. How the fuck did we not win?

Thanks for confirming. Well he kept our strike force at bay that day so he must be brilliant.

Are people excited about us having a 40year goalkeeper who is without a club and has been training for AFC Wimbledon? 🤔

The bench is stronger than the team.

Christ knows how you find the strength to get out of bed in the morning. It must be absolutely exhausting being that pathetic.

Viera can't be that much of a fan being that he had the opportunity to sign up him for nothing for the last four months.

Training with AFC Wimbledon, not for them. That's a bit of a difference.

I don't think anyone is excited, more pragmatic that we've done ok to find an experienced keeper at short notice and solve what could have been a big issue.

Nice edit there 🤣 I guess calling it an emergency loan option was a typo….

What is this 'emergency loan' thing to which you refer?

The PL rulebook for 2021/22 mentions no such thing.

@Matthew Le God Doesn't seem to like it when he's wrong.  He edited his post rather than answer my question lol.

Perhaps not excited, more like intrigued. I like these stories in football generally so why not with us? It could all end badly of course but it could also be a headline-catching fairy tale. Given our goalie situation pre last week, this twist is unexpected and, as I said, intriguing.

As if Macca or Forster would even be allowed into their training ground.

I can't say I'm overly excited, but I appreciate he is better than what we have and in truth anything might be better than the performances McCarthy has been putting out recently.

Out of interest, which player would excite you? We can't sign a first team level keeper atm, this is a more than adequate stopgap, and if he is better than Harry Lewis it is a win-win.

I would say that Macca's form generally has been a lot better than it was last season, yes he was poor at Norwich but apart from that he has made some very good saves which has earned points this season and been pretty consistent. I'm not saying that we couldn't do better than him but some of the criticism of him has been a little unfair IMO.

Looks like we are in some pretty shit now. Two big missed opportunities last week. Facing two teams who looked anything but themselves. And now its our turn. Key players missing. A desperate mid season panic loan keeper. Lack of faith in the gaffer. Crown unrest.

I'm looking forward to the weekend, at least it won't be same ol same ol.......

Emergency loan was sanctioned for just such an eventuality with a key player (e.g. goalkeeper)

and if approved, a club with our injury situation can sign a goalie - even between transfer windows.

BUT in this case, Caballero is already a " free agent " after leaving Chelsea in the summer,

so surely, in theory ......Any club could have signed him - at any time

Otherwise it can be construed as  " restriction of labour"  (job opportunities).

True. But we're not a side that can afford to only judge based on premier league records, are we.

One positive thing, Big Willy is good at saving penalties apparently. Remember he was supposed to come on in the dying minutes of extra time in the 2019 Carabao Cup Final for the shootout, but Chelsea's goalie at the time Arrizabalaga refused to be substituted.

Puff piece in The Athletic this morning suggesting we have basically signed Pele with gloves on.

If you want motivation or convincing that this is a good move for us, then that's a great place to start. Feels like he will be first choice come Saturday.

Would they go as far as to say this is an insane signing?

My favourite part is the bit where they are talking about how good a sweeper keeper he is, and the screenshot used is where Chelsea are 3-0 down away to relegation fodder West Brom after 30mins.

Then you aren't watching him closely enough. He has cost us far, far more points than he's saved. The only really decent save was at city last minute (their only effort on target). The rest I'd expect every single premier league keeper to make.

He can't do the basics of goalkeeping at this level. He's shown that consistently for years. Poor positioning, poor communication, poor decision making, caught flat footed and leaning backwards more than any professional keeper I've ever seen. Our worst regular starting top flight keeper ever IMO, behind even Kelvin. Not anywhere near the standards of Forster now or pre injury, and completely eclipsed by Boruc, Niemi, Jones, Beasant, Flowers. I'm undecided on whether McCarthy trying is better than Grobelaar on the take.

Well at least five other Saints fans are seeing the same as I am.

I accept that his form was pretty dodgy at times in the second half of last season (as was the whole team) but I think he has been ok for most of this one so far.

I agree with you. Poor positioning, poor command of his area, slow to get down to shots that are close to him. My disappointment with Caballero is that he’s only on a one month contract but I suppose that could be extended.

also agree, and also hope already we can extend his stay unless it's to tide us over until Forster goes in January and we bring someone else in. Can only hope. Macca will let in enough goals to get us relegated if we're not careful

Yes, any club could have signed him at any time.  The old emergency loan rule that used to exist did not appear in the list of PL regulations for this season.

McCarthy's better than Davis and Gazzaniga. Those two get you relegated without a fight.

Looking at that line up I would say we are a better team today, in every department. Interesting there are only three survivors.
