If an emergency loan is going to happen it needs to be from a club we’re not playing in the next couple of weeks, or it completely defeats the object. SuperSAINT Posted 5 December, 2021 Share Posted 5 December, 2021 Adrians a decent keeper who has lapses in concentration & throws a howler occasionally — basically the same as what we have.
Baird of the land Posted 5 December, 2021 Share Posted 5 December, 2021 Be interesting to find out how long we will without either of our two keepers. West ham seem obvious choice if it’s a week or two as we don’t play them till Boxing Day, sadly we don’t appear a threat to them and gk could commute fairly easily. Whitey Grandad Posted 5 December, 2021 Share Posted 5 December, 2021 A hamstring injury could keep McCarthy out until February in which case we might as well look for a permanent signing now. Apparently Forster has ‘a muscle injury’. Maybe he has been using his tongue too much?
Badger Posted 5 December, 2021 Share Posted 5 December, 2021 Heaton would be an excellent signing if possible.

miserableoldgit Posted 5 December, 2021 Share Posted 5 December, 2021 From FB:- Reports: Southampton are weighing up a move for former Man City and Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero to solve their crisis. Manuel Posted 5 December, 2021 Share Posted 5 December, 2021 6 years? Actually Brad Friedel went on 'till 44 or something didn't he, so I shouldn't jest.
Miltonaggro Posted 5 December, 2021 Share Posted 5 December, 2021 Likely to be Heaton, Caballero, or Scott Carson. Beggars can't be choosers I suppose.
Causer Posted 5 December, 2021 Share Posted 5 December, 2021 In a way it's a shame we have Broja from Chelsea so can't loan another player from them. Otherwise Marcus Betternelli would have been perfect. More recent playing experience than other options and still in prime of career.
miserableoldgit Posted 5 December, 2021 Share Posted 5 December, 2021 "Willy Caballero set for Southampton medical tomorrow ahead of signing a short-term deal following injuries to Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster. The 40-year-old Argentine has been training with AFC Wimbledon to keep himself fit and key figures at the club acted quickly to wrap up a deal on Sunday. Caballero was keen to join as soon as he heard about the opportunity and one of the key attractions for Southampton was that his style will fit into the club’s goalkeeping playbook."

I wondered what had happened to him, but obviously off the radar as far as we're concerned.

"his style will fit into the club’s goalkeeping playbook." - picking the ball out of the net? Leaving huge gaps at near post? Not being able to distribute/command his area. Will fit right in. Still, it's an advance. Our goalkeeping staff will soon make him crap...(can't help thinking that's where the issue is - Kelvin is clearly pretty useless) Caballero is pretty decent though. A step up, no matter his age
