Years ago nobody had heard of a manager 'losing the dressing room' and there were some very strong characters about in those days. So why does it seem to happen more and more in the modern game? Are the players earning too much money? Has social media inflated their egos? If you can believe paper talk, Poch is struggling to cope with big personalities like Neymar, Mbappe and Messi at PSG so if he goes to United will it just be more of the same rubbish on the pitch? Oh, I do hope so. 😁 Wasn’t it Alan Ball who said that he realised that he was talking to a bunch of millionaires and that he was wasting his time trying to inspire them? 2

I have huge respect for what Bally did for us but he's talking nonsense there. Do Guardiola or Klopp struggle to motivate their players? 64saint Posted 23 November, 2021 Posted 23 November, 2021 (edited) I know things are bad at Old Trafford but Sparky Hughes now being touted as their saviour . Oh dear !!! Edited 23 November, 2021 by 64saint 1 1

Money certainly, but more so freedom of movement due to the Bosman case, surely it all comes down to that. Instant power shift from the clubs to the players who are free to run down their contracts if they so wish.

HarvSFC Posted 23 November, 2021 Posted 23 November, 2021 After revisiting Hughes' record here, I can again understand why he hasn't had a club since. Just the five wins in 27 matches, an 18.5% win percentage. Jeez, we gave that man a three year deal. Worse than Pellegrino's 25% win record from 35 matches. 2

Mystic Force Posted 24 November, 2021 Posted 24 November, 2021 Maybe the best managers in the world are the ones who can do this task. People sill like winning right? When someone gets a trophy they all look pretty happy, so I think I would push on that angle a bit if I was in charge.

If Ball was unable to motivate his players then he either had a bad group or he wasn't saying the right things. I don't see that it has anything to do with their or his wealth. As Mystic Forces said, players still like winning and they must have had some motivation to get to that level
