Difficult to call even if they have got a few players out. Think we might fair better if playing away as their home fans will be baying for blood. If the defence holds strong and the strikers find their boots perhaps 2-0, but in reality this could go either way with a single goal separating the teams. I’d love to see us put Villa to the sword and put the game to bed by half-time, but there’s little hope of that with our slow build up play and Villa will be set up to defend. My seat will be empty as we’re away, but hopefully I can get a good stream. COYS!

Don’t drink too much folks - the winter match ball looks like it might make you feel like  you’re on mind altering substances.

Andy Madley will be the ref picking that ball up of the stand en route to the pitch - Hope it doesn’t effect his mince pies.
Mr Atkinson watching on TV - no trace of the special one anywhere near our game.

If you're away, can you not return your season ticket for the match to the club to resell? That always used to be the case.

Morning, first trip to St Mary's since pre covid. Travelling down from Yorkshire can anyone recommend any over night parking. Staying at the Premier Inn near the ground which doesn't have on site parking. Is the Asda carpark the best bet ?

Premier Inn does have parking but it's operated by another company. Most city centre on street parking is free overnight. You may be able to pay sufficiently  the night before so that you don't have to get up by 8:00 to move your car. Check the machine.

I'd be more concerned if they were not making the opportunities and getting in positions to score. Sometimes you have to be patient and the rewards will come.

That's my view too, and it's good to see they aren't hiding and shirking responsibility. I had an ex-coach as a colleague once and he highlighted how a particular player (not Saints) was "hiding" by the positions he took up and it's the sort of thing I've noticed since then.

I remember going to Forest in the Cup, they scored in the 89th minute and while their goaly was crazy celebrating 'victory' Terry Paine lobbed a long shot (like Che's first goal) and we drew 1-1. In the Dell replay we were 0-3 down with twenty minutes to go and incredibly drew 3-3. In the next replay (White Hart Lane) half So'ton had made the journey and the turnstiles couldn't cope with the crowds, by the time I got in we were already 3-0 up. I think we won 5-0. I think we reached the semi final that year and lost to Man u 0-1. It was the year of the big freeze

That season was the first I went to nearly all of the home games

The 3 3 draw was fantastic so many people there was unable to get to the Milton Road End and got pushed in the standing area under the East Stand

Very disappointed to be losing 3 0 until I think it was 16 mins from the end when George Kirby scored and then David Burnside scored with 2 mins or so remaining with a left footshot after a Forest own goal

Extra time was an anticlimax but the second replay at White Hart Lane was far from that my first away game with so many Saints supporters we won 5 0.

That game was probably the most dominant display I have seen Saints play and the atmosphere was tremendous

I will always remember that game

Nervous about tonight. Think we're all underestimating them, even without Ings et al. The times we have not performed when it's there on a plate over the years... Wouldn't be unhappy at a draw, but this is a golden opportunity to really go at them. Hope Broja is fit

Is there a Saints game your not nervous about?

I’m not sure anyone is underestimating Villa, just, similar to Leeds, this is a great time to play them. Fuck me enough teams last season had us when we had to play the kids, now we have Ralph-depth, I’m expecting a. To not lose, and hoping b. To win.

Will be funny if we dont win either game and people start laying a log in their pants over who there is to replace Ralph. Think it will be old Ronald myself 😉

I've stayed there recently and parked just round the corner on South Front. All day parking for a fiver and as said above, if you buy a ticket the night before you don't have to get up early the next morning as charging only applies 8am to 6pm.

Just noticed that Friday night trains back to Basingstoke (or anywhere past Winchester) stop at 10pm.  They used to be much later so anybody that doesn't drive is going to be a bit stuffed tonight.  A usable public transport system might help us reach net zero!  On Saturday or Sunday they do run later - go figure.

Expect Tella to come on as a sub striker this evening, assuming we start with Armstrong / Broja.

McCarthy; Livramento-Bednarek-Salisu-Walker Peters; Romeu-Ward Prowse; Redmond-Broja-Armstrong- Elyonoussi

Match Subs; Armstrong, Adams, Tella.

No excuses tonight, 3-0 is the least we should expect although Mane's absence doesn't help.

No nerves for me, just hoping Redmond and McCarthy keep their places though, agree?

It's awful tonight.

My last train back to Hove from Southampton Central is 10:21pm. I've either got to commit to leaving a few minutes early, or absolutely leg it back to the station after getting out the ground. I can't believe they don't notice this and put a few more on.

God, I hope we tear them to bits! I don't know why, but I know I want to!

Revenge for that absolute travesty at the hands of Lee Mason and Mike Dean last season, perhaps?

Or to show Danny that he made a bad choice to leave us for them in the summer?

Sorry, my sarcasm came across badly! It was the Ings thing, but I'd forgotten all about that handball. Who's ref tonight? And perhaps more crucially, who's on VAR?!

Me too, although I can get where I'm going by the 10.30 and change at Havant. So if a puffing older woman comes past you it's me ignoring my doctor's orders not to strain my heart. Apparently I shouldn't have been playing those 90 minutes of football in September and October! Sensible shoes and loitering around the entrance is the way to go as I hate leaving before the final whistle. Hope there's no injury time..

I hate to break it to you old chap, but he joined Liverpool five years ago

Still, at least tonight we can rely on Lambert, Lallana and J-Rod, they could make the difference

I was at a BBQ in the summer and there's this Villa fan absolutely full of it saying what a massive club they are going to become. How it was "obvious" that they were going to keep Grealish & how they were "definitely" going to get JWP because he was bound to want to join a massive club like Villa.

Please Saints, smash 'em tonight so I can imagine his cross little face weeping into his sparklers

We got to get Stu back on form... He is such an asset to the creativity of the team so I reckon he starts on the right instead of Mo (who's been pretty good) with Redmond on the left.

I'd guess RH starts Che and A.Amstrong again... Broja is class though and comes in as the battering ram later on.

Rest of the team is pretty much a given...

Got a good feeling for tonight, two-nil

With Tino MoTD 11th time in a row 🙂

I'm with you in this, although I'm fancying us for 3 goals in a cracking game, and win.

Me too. Fantastic atmosphere. If I close my eyes I can still see George Kirby shoulder charging their goalkeeper into the net with the ball still in his hands. It would never be allowed to stand today!

you are kidding, right? You expect a 3-0 win? I'd only ever expect a 3-0 win from Saints if we were playing league 1, maybe even 2 opposition.

As always, I hope for win, think we might be slight favourites, but expect nothing. It will be a very tough game.

Yes I remember it well.  0-3 down ..what fightback.    George Kirby was one of the original toughie CF's - and always with a smile on his face.

The O.G. went down to Peter Grummit  in the Forest goal.  When the cross came into the box, he and Kirby both went up together and the next moment

there was  Grummit  AND  the ball in the back of the net.   Then we got to 3-3 .... What a finísh ..how did we fail to score in Extra time?

The 5-0 replay at Tottenham was legend.      It has gone down as  Ken Wimshurst's  finest game in a Saints shirt.

Shame about the Semi Final at Villa Park.  Terrible pitch.  Abysmal game, with the only goal hitting Denis Law's knee on the way past Reynolds.

I still don't get this call to start Broja on the bench. He is our best striker and we need him from the start. Right on cue the team news and Ralph sticks him on the bench. Hope he doesn't regret it and ends up having to bring him on to chase the game. Big chance for Che and Adam to show why Ralph has such confidence in them so we'll see if they take it.
