Didn't think Djenepo was too bad compared to Elyonoussi tbh, would swap him instead.

Cracking first post, welcome to the funny farm

For a player who was a bit Meh season before last - to get a standing ovation from a very large number of the crowd when he was subbed speaks volumes about the majority view on his shift on the pitch.

No doubt he does put in a good shift, maybe I was a bit exaggerated, however he did miss a few decent opportunities, whereas djenepos pass made the goal. Don't think it really matters who gets dropped as long as S.Armstrong comes in, we look so much better with him in the side.

Need to get stuck into the Cornet, plug the Cork, & not let the Wood get going.

We got this, if we're hungry enough. Easy win. 1-0.

Early enough in the week to be overly optimistic.

Let's hope the Cornet doesn't play properly; the Cork gets stuck and crumbles and Wood gets nailed by Salisu.

You might find Ralph will be easing him in. I thought Diallo was rusty on Saturday first few touches, and like that Listerine mouth wash Ad bang he was in the game. Stuart when he came on looked far more rusty, Burnley are a rufty tufty bunch, if you are a tad off your game and you get caught even unintentionally you could find yourself back on the treatment table - that said another full week of training and he could well be up to speed.

Whilst it would be nice to see Stu A start I think Saturday may be a bit too soon. The 30 minutes against Leeds were certainly a help. If he does start, I would expect him to be brought off after about an hour. However, as Ralph doesn't like starting players he knows wouldn't last the full 90, I am fully expecting an unchanged starting 11 against Burnley. To be honest, I don't think anyone could really complain about that.

With one eye on the following midweek cup match, it could mean fielding a completely different front 4 of Tella/Arma/Che/Theo. After more game time Saturday, Stuey could then be started in AM in place of either Ibra or Oriol; with KWP and Valery as the FBs. (Yes, I know, I know.) Obviously FF will be in goal for that one, meaning only 1 CM (prob Diallo) and both CBs would need to play in both. (Not sure I want to see Lyanco on the pitch against Chelsea....)

That said, and getting back on topic to the Burnley match, I would like to see a slight change up front. Something to give us a bit more of an attacking threat. I would like to see either Arma (who I think is the better/more clinical finisher) or Che (for his strength, hold up and link up abilities). Given the opposition, I would probably be tempted to go with Che (if fit). If not fit, then Arma. No way should Redders be dropped after his recent performances so drop him into a 10 role. Again, unsure whether that should be at the expense of Moussa or Moi.

In any event, seeing as we did the double over Burnley last season and given their start to this, I think we do stand a good chance of getting back to back wins here. 2-0 win.

First game in almost 2 years, naturally I waited to choose a guaranteed goal-fest.

Do I need to have a Covid-pass to get in? Cheers.

I don't think it would hurt to have the NHS app ready to show evidence - I think you can even take a screenshot as once double-vaccinated the pass lasts for 1 month so that avoids any potential network issues

However, it isn't mandatory and I wasn't checked for the United and West Ham games.

Thanks a lot. I'll have it ready.

Looks like Burnley only have the 2 smallest blocks (47 and 48) in the far corner on sale to their fans, so probably 3 empty blocks in the Northam. Likely be one of the lowest attendances but, oddly, as they've released one of the away blocks to home fans (and selling well), most Saints fans inside St Mary's this season too.

Same starting XI as last week, agree with many that too early to start Stuart Armstrong. Why change a winning team?

Having said that KWP could be more of a threat than Perraud down the left flank and may get the nod.

Keep Perraud at left back. Burnley keep a block of 8 at the back, so Kwp would be running into a brick wall. We need Perraud keeping wide.

I asked a steward last week if he wanted to see my Covid pass and his reply was " Eh, what's one of them, mate" !

Clearly no training has been given and I doubt if you'll ever be asked to show one !

Not looking forward to this game so much, purely because it's Burnley and win, lose or draw it always seems to be a game lacking fluidity and entertainment.  Fair play to them for a style that has helped them stay in the league but it can be grim viewing.

Having said that it's good to welcome Jay Rod and Jack Cork back, two of our ex-players that I like and will probably be able to manage an appreciative clap for.

As for our team I'd be tempted to bring Adams or Armstrong in for Djenepo and move Redmond wider for this one.  Other than that I think the team picks itself at the moment.

Obviously hoping for some momentum building after last week; two wins in a row with Norwich to follow would be just what's needed to settle everyone down after a difficult start to the season.

Watford away and Villa home before Norwich but certainly points available in next few matches.

*And nice memory, we were strolling around Bologna about now five years back before jumping on the high-speed train to Milan.

Nah, haven't seen anyone get asked.  The site says you may need to show proof of double vaccination, which I have on the NHS app, but nobody has asked to see it thus far.

If we want to keep ahead of points gained from last season's comparative fixtures then we need to try and win this one, we managed to beat them away and at SMS but both were close scorelines. I get that a draw to consolidate the Leeds win would be acceptable but the extra 2 points especially from a home game could be invaluable by the end of the season and I would put home games against the other teams that are currently in the bottom 7 in the same bracket.

I agree, every time I have seen him, I've been suitably impressed, very neat and tidy and bloody quick - that sprint up the pitch first half Saturday he got near the 18 yard box glanced around for someone to pass to almost "errr where is everyone".  He seems keen to hit the goal line which opens up the corridor of uncertainty - which does get little use.

Is it just me, or does Livramento seem to flag a bit at around the hour mark? We seem to lose some effectiveness down the right flank after half time.

I don't think there are any fitness issues, but a PL game is a lot of physical and mental stress for a 19 year-old. They're always careful with younger players for fear of throwing too much at them, too soon.

I'd keep Perrault in because he brings things we need - and he's left footed, so we don't become too narrow up front.

And - if we haven't used subs on injuries - I'd try switching KWP for Livramento at around 60 minutes

I think he does. Surprised that Walker Peters isn't brought on to add some energy down the right, however the other thought is that the best way to improve Livramento's stamina is for him to keep playing 90 minutes so he gets used to it.

Decent attendance expected Saturday, this game is selling well for home fans. Block 43 (normally away fans) has sold out to Saints supporters and they've now put part of block 44 on sale - don't think they could go any further due to concourse segregation. Burnley have blocks 47, 48 and part of 46 in the corner. Just need this fixture to exceed expectations now.

I don't think any of you are alone in these thoughts. It occurred to me that perhaps KWP is a victim of his own versatility in that he's a great sub to bring on for either full back, whether for energy or injury reasons. I've been mildly surprised it hasn't happened on one or two occasions.

Not just you, I have highlighted this in several after match comments lately. It is unusual to sub a full back except through injury presumably because coaches consider this as a waste of a tactical substitution option. Th majority of our subs are for the 10 position or strikers.

Feel like a win and Burnley are truly in trouble, not just their usual flirtation with it before improving.

Nah, Burnley will be all right. They've actually been playing pretty well - by their standards - and will start shithousing points again soon enough. Hopefully not this weekend, though.

I think you're right, but longer you go without a win it can be hard to come back from. After us they have Brentford at home another game they'd expect something from.

It's good to see and shows what a difference sensible pricing can make, opening new blocks in the Northam with the "Itchen South" pricing £15 for adults is brilliant to be fair. Not sure what the atmosphere will be like, small away following won't make much noise and Saints have made it "family day" with junior member tickets for £1 so lots of nippers there. Will be nice knowing there's no neutrals there just to watch stars playing for the opposition.
