OS Confirmed Michael Svennson - New Assistant Coach

And the basis for that conclusion is what, exactly ?

Has he got coaching badges ?

Sorry, this appointment is a more f**king ridiculous PR-stunt appointment than Dodd as Burley's assistant........

Even if Svensson never plays again it's far better to have Svensson involved than not involved as he is clearly a leader and can be a figurehead for the current players. I'm sure he scares the crap out of many of them. Maybe a Richard Sharpe type scenario (fictional novels and TV I know)...

I'm glad his post is as player-coach currently though rather than bigging him up as an assistant manager. It doesn't put him too close to the rotten regime. He can learn badges.

Yep, but I would like to see reserves coach first rather than first team, surely even decent players need to prove their coaching abilities....

I seriously doubt that our reserves and first team train separately.

I can't work this out. I've worked out 93% of everythign that's happened over the last 2 years but this one escapes me.

Well I always got the impression that Jan never payed much attention to the defensive side of things in his coaching, so this makes perfect sense to me.

One of Svenssons best attributes is his reading of the game, which CAN be taught IMO.

A desperate attempt to appease the fans. It won't work you f*ckwits - WE WANT YOU OUT!

Do you think the OS will always put "fomer Feyenoord Technical Director" in every article about Wotte?

(ps I am however happy that Killer has a role at the club, but I suspect this means his playing career is over).

******** to what others think... I'm f'ing delighted at this!

Before he came back this season there was plenty of discussion about how great it would be to see him perform some form of coaching role at SFC. His experience and leadership skills will be invaluable to us and our young squad. He is a genuinely nice guy too, so I can see him as a great mentor to younger players also.

Obviously he doesn't have his coaching badges, but since when did qualifications make a coach? Experience, knowledge, talent and respect are all much more important, qualifications can be earned over time.

Excellent news IMO

Look I don't know whether MS will be a success as much as the next man however...

... he has a pride in the football club which most agreed was beneficial for the younger players to experience - this just gives him a chance to put that across even more.

People have commented that Svennson & Lundekvam were one of best central defensive partnerships - there was only one leader & one communicator out of the two of them & that's MS - that's why Claus looked so poor on his own when Michael got injured.

First thing the club has done right in long time IMO (& time will tell!!)

Nothing more than SFC trying to appease the fans, that's all it is.......you've been reading The Guardian for too long.

In my opinion... if this appointment had been made while we were flying high in the league, it would be given a very different reception. I can't and don't blame people for their negative opinions or thoughts towards the club and the decisions it makes, but I am pleased at this decision pure and simply for the benefits I believe Killer can bring to the table.

Michael Svennson will be announced as New Assistant Manager on Monday I have heard.

Does anybody know what time the Press (Spin) Conference will take place on Monday, and are Sky and the 'local's' invited. ?

That's gonna be difficult as we do not have a manager in the first place !!!!!

Svensson is a legend here. He has the sort of club loyalty we all wish we could see more of from modern players.

I think its good... but beware the spin. In some ways, probably as there is simply no trust in the boardroom, there will be a feeling that this is an appointment to placate the fans at a time when rebellion and tensions are high.

Assistant managers should stay firmly in the background. They are assistants. They are apprentices.

I welcome MS in to this role - but I would warn against Killer being put on the OS as a mouthpiece for Lowe's policies in order to win support of the fanbase.

Does he, though? The entire time he could have been a valuable and sellable asset for us, and the entire time he could have walked into any mid ranked Prem team (or, say, Celtic), he was seriously injured.

I don't really see this idea of Svennson being super loyal. He didn't have much choice in the matter.

If Peter Crouch had the same career ending injuries in, say, the last weeks of our relegation season that Killer had the chances are he might have been "super loyal" too.

Anyway, this appointment is ridiculous and Killer is being used as a "human shield" for this retarded administration.

Is it a Lowe plan , to save some face, surely the fans won't protest against a cult hero like Killer if he is on he management team !!!!

Its all a load of rollocks , again no thought in this at all for a footballing perspective

You might want to read the start times again.

Just shows Svennson has accepted that any chance he had of playing again has just about gone.

weird maybe mods have the power to chage time(we could do with that) as it wasn't there yesterday at that time honest :D

Yeah I think we all knew he was never gonna be a regular starter. Lets hope svennsons good name doesn't get tarnished by Lord Lowe too if it all ends in tears.

Yes, another 'cheap' option.

He's had no managerial experience, not sure if he has his badges, and to be fair if he was that much of a positive influence on the players, and a natural 'leader' we wouldn't be in the position we are in.

Why do we always make these misguided appointments?

Because our chairman is a plank

Well, I think it's a good appointment, regardless of the motives. He's the best defender we've had at the club for a decade and if he can pass even 10% of that on then it's worth it.

Personally, given our current predicament, I would rather we had appointed an experienced and qualified coach to be Assistant First Team Coach.

This is no time for people learning on the job, we needed someone to come in and hit the ground running. We had enough problems the last time we employed a Jan who was learning as he went along.

I would have no problem him coming in on the backroom staff at a less exposed position and lending a hand, providing inspiration, motivation and passing on his experience, but IMHO he's not what we need right at the sharp end as we sit here today.

Is this good news? Does he have his badges? Is this just some kind of sop for the fans to keep the protesters away from Rupes door?

That is absolutely the reason IMO. Really blatant and patronising of the board too. Just hope for Michael's sake he doesn't get embroiled in all the crap that's going on at the moment.
