Chelsea 1-1 (p.4-3) Saints - Match Thread

A good 44 minutes. Impressed with the makeshift back line, kept to their jobs well.

Kevin Friend is still a bellend. Gives them the weakest stuff and ignores us. Whatever.

At one down, this should be interesting, keeps Mount from an early appearance, and we will attack.

Really frustrating, as we've played the game plan well - the counter press, the winning the ball back well enough.

But the final third is beyond inept, let's be honest. The final pass is either the wrong pass or misplaced, or the touch of Adams or Tella is just too heavy and it gets away from them.

It's like a little lower league team against a bigger side, we're huffing and puffing and giving a good account but we don't have anywhere near the right level of quality to hurt them.

Adam Armstrong looks totally lost.
what a waste of 15m

Agreed not quite ready for the step up to the premier League at the moment

Valery very very poor. Lyanco very good. Salisu exceptional - a box to box centre back at times. Lots of effort but very little quality up front. Che in particular looks off the pace.

If Che had scored that goal you wouldn't have complained.  Cheating or just imposing yourself and being stronger...

Also, we should definitely do more set-piece defending in training.

It didn't help that the shortest player on the pitch was marking one of their tallest

That only helps if the players they're training against are a threat from set pieces...

Striker at new club not looking outstanding in an unfamiliar formation, a heavily rotated side against a side of Chelsea's stature? Yeah he's total sh*t. Stealing a living. Have a word will you!

To be fair to him he gets nothing to work with, if he was being given good opportunities I’d be disappointed, but our play in the danger areas is frantic and haphazard in my opinion.

Think so zonal marking is a waste of time

No, it's a product of poor on field communication,  should've passed him on and got organised.

Not bad first half but let down on the set piece. As long as we keep trying and give some of the boys that need it some game time, I think it will be a good evening irrespective of the result.... mind you I'm still hoping for a Che hat trick...

Lyanco and Salish look good. Unfortunately Diallo is having a mare giving the ball away in midfield danger areas. A Armstrong and Adams’ look like league one contenders rather than Prem strikers - no surprise there really. Such a shame Stu Armstrong is playing so deep. Can’t see a way back TBH.

Obviously gutted to have gone a goal down how and when we did.

But.. We've been quite a bit better than I was expecting. Salisu and Lyanco have both played really well. Diallo's beginning to look a really decent player; he gets stuck in, wins us some ball and makes some very good attacking passes, and not too many sideward ones. It's so good having Stu Armstrong back, I think he'll make a real difference back in the first team.

And Che Adams was playing a bit rubbish!

Made by Valery, assist to KWP, tap in by Che.

Funny that Ralph is willing to play Valery and KWP with one playing farther forward (even interchanging), but not - as yet - KWP and Tino.

I think it's what everyone would like to see.
