Did they play in 1945? I thought it was cancelled because of the war.

Wiki says: "1945–46 was the first peacetime football season since the 1939–40 season was cut short due to World War II.

On 7 May (as the war was ending), it was announced that the FA Cup would be resumed, and that the 44 clubs in the top two divisions of the 1938–39 season would play in the Football League North and Football League South[1] without promotion and relegation from the previous peacetime season."

So, due to geography, Southampton and Sheffield would have been in different Leagues.

The good news is that we finished above P***** in that single post-war Football League South season. Strange the competition that season is glossed over in the Skates Wiki page.

Forster, KWP, Bedders, Lyanco, Small, JWP, Diallo, Moi, Djenepo, Tella, Broja for me.

Rest Tino. Perraud for Small if he’s not ready.

0-2. Think we’re slightly lucky Berge and Gibbs-White miss this one.

Small played for the B team on Sunday vs Burnley, so probably unlikely he'll start a game 2 days later.

I'd expect to see something like that, although as MLG said, I doubt we'll see Small.

Makes sense for Oriol to play (and be captain in JWP's absence) given he is the only person Lyanco can speak to 'somewhat' normally.

Can't say I'm really surprised at Valery starting either. Gives Kyle and Tino a rest. Nice to see Broja and Tella starting up front.

I was way off, but that's a decent line up. Shame there's no streams, I reckon it'll be a good game.

Apparently this will be a stream but I'm sceptical

Women’s WC qualifiers tonight. Hate international breaks when they pause the WSL

Bugger behind the goal. I hate that. Still I might just see a goal.

Decent team, Valery a surprise and I thought Bendarek would play.

Certainly hasn't put out a weak side.

Better not go to penalties.

I wouldn't think there'd be a shortage of empty seats to move into for a better view - I don't think they've opened there 'Kop' tonight so not gripping the home fans

Forster

Valery - Lyanco - Salisu - Perraud

Romeu - Diallo

Redmond - Djenepo

Tella - Broja

Or it's Redmond up front, Tella in the wide positions?

I'm not sure if it's 3 or 5 subs allowed, but if 3 then expecting Moi, Adams and Long to come on.

I wonder who the penalty taker would be tonight given JWP on bench.

He can always come on as a sub and take a peealty a la West Ham and Southgate

Just signed in, apparently I’m now enrolled as a Taliban fighter! I’m off to pack, I don’t need to take a vest though they are generously providing one.

 That’s a surprising development I must say!

Might be best not to pack your rainbow laces though.

Apologies for eating at the football and everything but worth putting on the record that the sausage rolls here are excellent 👌

Although the first language of the defence tonight is actually French.
