Wiki says: "1945–46 was the first peacetime football season since the 1939–40 season was cut short due to World War II.

So, due to geography, Southampton and Sheffield would have been in different Leagues.

The good news is that we finished above P***** in that single post-war Football League South season. Strange the competition that season is glossed over in the Skates Wiki page.

Just signed in, apparently I’m now enrolled as a Taliban fighter! I’m off to pack, I don’t need to take a vest though they are generously providing one.
