Not really the match to take anything away from other than a good experience for the youngsters. We have three games this week and this is the least important, so the team was basically the normal bench and u21s, the captain brown doesn't even usually start for us. Against a WSL team, that was just about experience more than anything

Free tickets available for the Sunderland match on the 19th. There are just over 500 tickets remaining in the Northam/Itchen corner although maybe they will open up more blocks as they appeared to be doing before Xmas.

Would have been interested but it's the same time as we'll be at Nottingham Forest , shame couldn't play day before

She seems to have returned to the matchday squad several weeks ago and has spent her time since then on the bench or not even selected.  So perhaps this move has been a while in the offing.  If not, I reckon she has done the right thing by going to MU and trying for game time there.

The MU present no. 1 goalie is Phallon Tullis-Joyce; try saying that after several beers or ciders.

I wouldn't try it at the game now they're allowing beers in the stands, knowing my luck I'd end up shouting "phallus joy" and get put on the sex offenders register.

Was talking to another parent at my kids football training who has been a regular at Saints ladies games, interesting perception that ambitions for the side seem to have been downgraded and club not prepared to spend to keep better players and no realistic aim to reach top flight.

This Echo article seems to back that up, although other sides like Durham and London City Lionnesses who aren't affiliated with men's teams (?) are still managing to compete.

Season basically over with no realistic chance of promotion or relegation, we play Pompey at St Mary's on March 22nd , might try and go to that, show them some support.

Just checked my diary and realised it's a Saturday so a definite possibility. I'll mention it to my Portsmouth supporting team mates and we could make an evening of it, down The Edge afterwards! Hmm, maybe not: we have a fixture the day after..

There seems to have been an awful lot of player turnover the last year or two, looking at the squad list for the most recent match I'm not really sure who a lot of them are! Seems we've loaned out a few who were regulars in favour of WSL academy players, assumedly to help the books balance a little more.

Some of the turnover was due to losing some players who were reluctant to go full time: with having decent careers the pay on offer was not sufficient to cover the risk and what they'd lose.

Interesting point. How exactly are those clubs competing then, considering crowds are tiny and TV money must be similar? When everyone else is being subsidised by men's football, I am not entirely surprised that Saints have decided to 'hold station' in the Championship if we can't get over 10,000 at St Marys even when the tickets are being given away.

Maybe give it a few years and the WSL will merge to create a 20-team division. Just a shame we aren't using these formative years to create a solid side that can compete in the top tier.

I don't think any WSL side gets over 10,000 regularly so there's no way Saints would be expecting that for us.

I wasn't talking about regular attendance, I was referring to the recent match at which all tickets were offered for free. To be fair I think the club did a piss-poor job with marketing it.

Don't get why they keep playing home games at st marys. The atmosphere is so poor. Should play at totton or eastleigh.

I think the push for wsl is over before it started, shame really. Guess Solak didn't want to keep funding it.

Start at the Veracity Ground, build some proper Sotonian character.
