suewhistle Posted 9 September, 2024 Posted 9 September, 2024 One issue is that most women footballers play on Sunday afternoons so they and friends and family can't watch the higher level stuff. When Saints played Portsmouth in the cup at Havant's ground last year I saw plenty of local players I know as they didn't have games that week. ISTR but not sure that one or two games might even have been postponed. Obviously the same applies to higher level men's Saturday football, but the far larger Sunday amateur game isn't impacted in the same way.

Saints looked good once settled, missing a bit of quality upfront so following mens team in that regard. Hard to know if we were missing any players etc, they announced it was the keepers debut so not sure if an understudy or going to be perm, looked assured no silly mistakes passing out from the back. Nice touch at the end players come over and chat to fans, went down well with the kids. Finished 1-1. Not a big crowd 1622 I think, they must be disappointed with that. It's a bit silly that followers don't really know any of the players or what the team needs. I haven't followed it particularly closely but it seems like there's been a load of upheaval over the summer and quite a few players unhappy and then the season just starts with little preview or idea of who all these new players are. If someone does follow it regularly I would imagine it's quite frustrating and probably contributes to the low crowds.

striker Posted 15 September, 2024 Posted 15 September, 2024 Good win, 3-0 What happened to the goalie Rendell? Is she injured?
John Boy Saint Posted 16 September, 2024 Posted 16 September, 2024 Just saw 2 of the 3 goals from yesterday- blimey talk about lightening (almost) striking twice Sunderland goalie pretty much getting done symmetrically by being chipped into each top corner. 1
Football Special Posted 22 September, 2024 Posted 22 September, 2024 Russell Martin has sent his congratulations to Saints ladies team for a perfect performance this afternoon 2
Football Special Posted 22 September, 2024 Posted 22 September, 2024 Already 5 points adrift after 3 games in a league that just has one promotion place , season of games with little at stake not great for the fans if lose touch with top spot

Holmes_and_Watson Posted 13 October, 2024 Posted 13 October, 2024 Le Tissier puts away a penalty "as cool as you like" Yeah, it's Maya Le Tissier for Man Utd, but still makes me smile. 🙂
Holmes_and_Watson Posted 13 October, 2024 Posted 13 October, 2024 Lovely work and cracking pass to give Pike a chance. Saints doing well, but a really nice one touch move right up the park from Portsmouth nearly gave them a good chance.
Barsiem Posted 13 October, 2024 Posted 13 October, 2024 We seem to have regressed over the last couple of years with composure in the final third - maybe the women have been watching the men's team?? We should be a couple up already

Stripey McStripe Shirt Posted 17 October, 2024 Posted 17 October, 2024 Could we soon be allowed to drink booze in view of a football pitch at Mary's? Probably not. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cdd4vp1r3myo
John Boy Saint Posted 4 November, 2024 Posted 4 November, 2024 Amazed at no mention of the ladies 1-0 mid table win away at Charlton yesterday. I guess the chaps getting a win on Saturday surprised everyone 🙃 1

Also very tight at the bottom for our friends down the road. 3

Not to count chickens before they hatch, but if all goes well we could be top of the table by mid-November. Smart money says we won't, but we can hope.
Tommy Mulgrew Posted 4 November, 2024 Posted 4 November, 2024 I note how many fewer goals the women concede than the men (I know the quality of female attackers is different). How about swapping coaches? 😉

East Kent Saint Posted 16 November, 2024 Posted 16 November, 2024 Yes Newcastle will be an experience for the Ladies , the football may be good too.
striker Posted 17 November, 2024 Posted 17 November, 2024 Southampton girls win 1-0 over Newcastle, like 10 minutes of added time. Big win.

Stripey McStripe Shirt Posted 24 November, 2024 Posted 24 November, 2024 Playing Pompey today at 2pm. Might be a more enjoyable watch than the men's game... 1
