Total Saints Podcast (2021/22 Season)

It’s been a couple of weeks since the podcast was last on air. Since then, Saints have battled through in the FA Cup, secured a Premier League Sustainability Champions League spot and also shown about as much interest in Deadline Day, as Pompey have in securing promotion from League One – absolutely zero!

Welcome to TSP 185!

Ben Stanfield dons the red and white microphone this week as Martin Starke is off but the core foundations of this podcast, once again, remain fully intact. Ben is joined by Steve Grant (SaintsWeb), Glen de la Cour (League One Minus 10) and Dan Sheldon (The Athletic) to get you up to date on all things SaintsFC.

Don't forget we live stream the podcast every Sunday at 19:15 GMT on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube!

A huge week for Saints fans with plenty to cover. A first win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and a hard-earned point at Old Trafford. What more could you ask for?!

The team also discuss the possibility of  Ralph Hasenhüttl retiring at the end of his contract and provide a preview ahead of the game against Frank Lampard's Everton at St Marys on Saturday.

Welcome to TSP 186!

A dominant display at St Marys saw Saints beat Everton 2-0 in the reverse of the opening day fixture.

In this weeks podcast, the team break down the recent win against Everton, preview the match against Norwich this week and Martin has a small confession to make about the TSP Predictions Table...

Although it's not what the average podcast listener wants to hear, it's good for a Saints fan this week - This podcast will be quite similar to last week (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing).

A decent display at St Marys saw Saints beat Norwich 2-0 with goals in either half. The team review that game and cover the two upcoming matches against West Ham (in the FA Cup) and Aston Villa (in the Premier League).

There are plenty of worse things going on right now but... what a stinker! A very unusual week comes to a close following a 4-0 thumping to Aston Villa and an FA Cup win against West Ham….with a line-up very few saw coming...! Welcome to TSP 189!

On the podcast this week, Steve and Dan are on their holidays (we aren't sure if they're together or apart…but it's certainly suspicious, that’s all we’re saying!). So Martin and Glen are joined by Ed Bizzey, a loyal Saints fan and one of our TSP Patrons.

The team cover the disastrous afternoon at Villa Park in the league, following the cracking win against West Ham in the FA Cup.

They also preview another big week - with 2 huge home games. The controversial, re-arranged Newcastle United fixture on Thursday evening and Watford’s visit to St. Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.

After lots of talk about bouncing back, seeing a reaction and/or putting things right, it all came to nothing more than a dreadful home defeat to a team in the bottom 3! This week on the podcast the TSP team break down whether Saints have slipped back into old habits or if this is just a ‘blip’ in an otherwise successful run of games.

Looking ahead, next week gives the team a break from Premier League action, with the visit of Manchester City in the FA Cup. Nothing to worry about... Welcome to TSP 190!

Another International break is on the way and the cup run is over, but is the season over too? After the 4-1 defeat today to Man City, Saints will next play Leeds back in the league. The team also discuss who was and wasn't called up to play for England.

We're back after the international break and a week off, did you miss us? The TSP team get together once again (minus Steve, he's back soon we promise) following the 1-1 draw against Leeds in the Premier League. The chaps then look ahead to the upcoming match against Chelsea and discuss the recent rule change regarding substitutions. This is TSP 192!

Another good listen, thanks. I noticed your podcast logo has changed from MLT to JWP's golf swing.

I wonder why? 😜

When the common opinion is that it could have been much worse after a 0-6 defeat to Chelsea you know it's been a tough weekend. The guys provide their reaction to the blunder at home on Saturday and look ahead to the next game in the Premier League against Arsenal. They also discuss Matt Le Tissier stepping down as a Saints ambassador and the current state of the Southampton academy.

Welcome to TSP 193!

We've got the whole team back together this week as Martin Starke is joined by Steve Grant (SaintsWeb), Glen de la Cour (League One Minus 10) and Dan Sheldon (The Athletic) to get you up to date on all things SaintsFC.

The big news this week is that we've just announced we're hosting a special TSP 200 live event for our 200th episode in May. In support of the Saints Foundation we're recording episode 200 live from the 5Rivers Sports Bar in Southampton, they'll be a Q&A with the panel, a special edition of the podcast and the Saints Foundation is running an auction featuring some Saints memorabilia. We'd love to see you there so if you'd like to find out a bit more about the event check it out on Eventbrite - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/tsp-...orting-saints-foundation-tickets-317537141137

It's the first win since February, what a contrast to last week’s result - we were promised a different set-up and a reaction, and we certainly got it, a perfect response. After defeating Arsenal at home on Saturday, Saints move on to play Burnley and Brighton this week in the Premier League. Will we will able to capitalise on the departure of Sean Dyche and come away with more points this week?

Why are you still using that pompey tramp Dan Sheldon after his Ted Bates slur ?  shameful

Reporting on something that the board discussed is not actually a slur. You not liking something does not make it a slur.

Whose matt ?  Shameful you give that scumbag a platform after his disgusting slur on Ted Bates.

Its ruined TSP thats for sure.

No substance to any of what Dan Sheldon from waterlooville did in this scandalous article that would be worthy of legal court action, but the person is dead so doesnt have that opportunity.  Its no secret who supplied this article and maybe they should take a closer look at home and realise they allowed loads more abuse because they stopped someone from telling the Police.

No consideration for family whatsoever.

Where is the evidence ? and how would Dan SHeldon know anything about board meetings ?

There is no evidence that Bates knew anything and if he did, then so did dozens of other people !

Another victim of Higgins, who has been in meetings said statue of bates removal never discussed.

Why wouldn't he know about board meetings? It's literally his job to be in contact with the board.

The story is still up on The Athletic suggesting no one at the club is disputing the facts of it.

There were direct quotes from the QC report and from a victim. The Athletic report is perfectly measured and fair considering the subject.

You seem to be imagining a completely different article in your own head and then getting upset about it.

There is no slur, any where. You can type the word slur out over and over again bit its not going to make it true.

Ahh board meeting minutes are clearly confidential and not open to journalists.

The person named in the article is dead and thus cannot do anything about the slur

There was nothng stated in any of the the court cases that Ted Bates knew anything about Bob Higgins and the qc report is a load of bunkem and totally pointless.

Far from being measured when the opening line of the article isnt even true !

Its an incrediuble slur on Ted Bates when he has no right of reply

Right it was the barnardos report that was a load of bunkem, my mistake.

There is nothing in the qc report or indeed in court evidence that says Bates knew anything or indeed any of the other many employees.

The athletic made a grubby unfounded libellious accusation that they wouldnt have done if Bates was alive.

Dan Sheldon shouldnt be involved in the Saints podcast for such a disgusting article.

Dan Sheldon shouldnt be allowed anywhere near St Marys either...  but we're talking SFC media here and they are woeful as the Le tissier saga shows.

This is an intersting article CB Fry  https://www.legalfutures.co.uk/latest-news/solicitor-rebuked-and-fined-for-dealings-with-journalist

The only slurs I see are you having a pop at Dan Sheldon. And also Barnados. Jolly well done on that.

That is a terrible comment and ask you withdraw it. TSP is a tremendous podcast with decent people involved. Our fanbase would lose a great product if they gave up.

We all have issues or disagreements with the topics and views at times but they are honest views. Dan obviously has contacts at the club and I doubt would risk that by going to print with something very wide of the mark. I myself wasnt pleased that the 60min injury was made public but again I assume was ok to do.

As for TB he was a wonderful servant to our club and I understand why you are defending his name, but we have to face up to it there were many many lives badly affected by Higgins actions and as far as Im aware the club did have it flagged up well before he was moved on. People had different views in those days where such things were swept under the carpet.

Again, I ask you to withdraw your comment. They are good people working for us and giving up precious time as they like you and I love the club (not Dan, this is common with journos of course)

TSP is excellent, only started listening this season but I love tuning in on a Sunday evening/Monday morning to catch up.

I don’t read the Athletic so have no opinion either way on Dan Sheldon or the print.

But I would say that I’m sure everything is carefully written and researched before going to print I like say, The Sun.

Looking forward to the next TSP 👍🏻

i really enjoy it. It's fun, informative and an easy listen. I appreciate the time and effort they put in. Each person adds value and whilst Dan isn't a supporter (yet), he does have connections to the club and isn't afraid to be critical of Saints if he sees something amiss.

Thank you TSP for making my long journey to work on a Monday morning more bearable.

Ps, bring back the Dyche impersonators!

After going two goals down, James Ward-Prowse helped salvage a point at Brighton in what turned out to be an eventful 90 minutes of football.

The point on the South Coast followed a dreadful mid-week result away to a team who were in the bottom three and without a manager…

As always.....there’s plenty to discuss!

Plus it's been a great few days for the Saints Women's team - securing a League and Cup Double!

Welcome to TSP195, featuring Martin, Steve and Glen.

It looked like we’d hold on for a point, but a late winner for the visitors in added time meant another defeat in the league for Saints. Another loss on the record has sparked a great many questions for the team this week regarding the future of the club and what improvements can be made over the summer. And with 3 games left to go, we also look ahead to the next game against Brentford.

Another defeat, this time at Brentford means it’s one win in ten Premier League games for Southampton after going down 3-0 at the Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday. Are the players done for the season and does the manager and support staff need replacing or can the team find some balance ahead of next season with what we have in place? Plus, we'll also review the next game against Liverpool.

And just like that, after a 4-1 defeat away at Leicester the 2021/22 season comes to a close. Not quite what many of us expected after the success we saw earlier in the season but hopefully lots to learn from to take into the summer. The team recap the match from today and also break down the various issues in and around the squad, Martin provides some more detail on our TSP 200 live event and the guys review the success the Southampton Womens' team had earlier this week.
