Uh-oh.  Another footballer remanded in custody on rape and sexual assualt charges.

Nothing has been confirmed yet and there is obviously a long way to go before due process is completed.

Was the Premiere League player accused of child sexual abuse in July ever publicly named? If not the different treatment is strange (though no doubt respecting the law).

No he wasn't. Mendy has been charged and has appeared in open court where he'll have had to confirm that he's Benjamin Mendy. Not a difference in treatment as such, rather they're very different scenarios.
