Weston Saint Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Nick, what was the reason for the game and do you know what team we put out bearing in mind the vitaly important game on Tuesday?
saint1977 Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 friendly behind closed doors yesterday. Saints 5 Upest FC 2 I also hear that killer is joining the coaching staff. i dont know that means he not going to play again but perhaps to put more resolve into the backroom staff. Jan was in charge apparently Sad about Svensson but inevitable. Still, he was one of the best CBs in the PL in 02/03 and 03/04 IMO, sickeningly that knee injury happened warming up at Farton Rust Bowl as well! Interesting that JP was charge of that game though.
OldNick Posted 24 January, 2009 Author Posted 24 January, 2009 Nick, what was the reason for the game and do you know what team we put out bearing in mind the vitaly important game on Tuesday?I only know scratchy details. we played 2 teams, they score with 2 pens and were down to 10 men.Jan took charge and the buzz of his l;eaving started in the 2nd half, this is best I know
aintforever Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Strange that we finally win at home then he resigns?

Delmary Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Nick, what was the reason for the game and do you know what team we put out bearing in mind the vitaly important game on Tuesday?Crouch was there watching the game according to several posters. All a bit strange if true?
ladysaint Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Nick what is the players reaction to JP going and Wotte taking over or even the reaction of the backroom staff if we have any left.
saint1977 Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 I only know scratchy details. we played 2 teams, they score with 2 pens and were down to 10 men.Jan took charge and the buzz of his l;eaving started in the 2nd half, this is best I know Just when you the club can't get any more strange, it does! You'd have thought Wotte would have been running the game. Perhaps either Lowe or Wilde made a summary decision without communicating it to the other.
saint1977 Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Nick what is the players reaction to JP going and Wotte taking over or even the reaction of the backroom staff if we have any left. Be interesting to hear Nick's view. Duncan and others have intimated that Wotte is not Mr Popular amongst players and particularly the staff.
SaintRichmond Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Be interesting to hear Nick's view. Duncan and others have intimated that Wotte is not Mr Popular amongst players and particularly the staff. So an obvious choice by Lowe then
Weston Saint Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 I know Adam Lallana, McGoldrick and James played the first half and they won 2-0 Sending off of one of the opposition came late in the first half when he bought down James. McGoldrick scored both goals with assists from Lallana.
Colinjb Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Be interesting to hear Nick's view. Duncan and others have intimated that Wotte is not Mr Popular amongst players and particularly the staff. Nice guys don't always make effective managers, this may actually be a positive.
OldNick Posted 24 January, 2009 Author Posted 24 January, 2009 Nick what is the players reaction to JP going and Wotte taking over or even the reaction of the backroom staff if we have any left. Ladysaint I got a call very late last night and so was too sleepy to guage that.Apparently there was going ot be a meeting this morning for them to get together with Wotte. All i know generally is that like Hoddle if he was made of chocolate he'd eat himself.
manji Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Be interesting to hear Nick's view. Duncan and others have intimated that Wotte is not Mr Popular amongst players and particularly the staff. I wouldnt take any notice of Duncans "inside knowledge". He exaggerates any negative stuff and suppresses any positive news from the club to fit in with his bitter and hysterical agenda. Anyway many football managers (any bosses really) are narccasistic. So what ?
manji Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Nice guys don't always make effective managers, this may actually be a positive. Quite Stuart Gray was popular with the players..................
ericofarabia Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Thought for a minute that said 'Upset FC,' and we were actually playing against a second Saints XI. I'm a bit confused .... did we win 5-2 or 2-0......... did we play a foreign team or against ourselves?? If the latter then we've out done our poor home record by now losing to ourselves Even if it was being played behind closed doors why all the cloak and dagger secrecy and no mention about it on The OS or Echo before hand?
stevegrant Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Be interesting to hear Nick's view. Duncan and others have intimated that Wotte is not Mr Popular amongst players and particularly the staff. But given that one of the key reasons for Poortvliet's failure is that he's "too nice", is that not potentially a good thing? Particularly given that the appointments from within that we have made in the past have always been coaches who have been "popular" or "pally" with the players.
benjii Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 According to Wiki they were thinking of linking up with Wolves in some sort of feeder capacity. Maybe that fell through and we're proposing something along those lines? All a bit odd. A far cry from the days of sell-out mid-season friendlies against Bayern Munchen anyway!
fos1 Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 I wouldnt take any notice of Duncans "inside knowledge". He exaggerates any negative stuff and suppresses any positive news from the club to fit in with his bitter and hysterical agenda. Duncan does not post unless he 100% sure of his facts so you are totally wrong, he could put loads more information on this Forum, but he will not do so until he has checked all the facts !!!
ericofarabia Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 http://www.ujpestfc.hu/index.php?pg=news_14_6871 We did win 5-2, 2 different line ups 45 minutes each. From what I can gather (the report is in Hungarian  and has some weird choice of music accompanying it :smt104) we won the 1st half 2-0 with DMG scoring both and the 2nd half was 3-2 with Spiderman Pulis :smt104 and Gasmi :smt104 scoring. = 5-2 over 90 mins. Nice to see our OS on the ball ... NOT

That was a good day Beattie had a brilliant 25-30 yard strike which hit the bar early it the second half, if I remember correctly that would have won us the game as well
Mark Mywords Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Saints team in the 1st half was: Forecast - Hatch, Size, Perry, Molyneux - James, Smith, Gillet, McGoldrick - Lallana, Holmes. 2nd half: Forecast - Imudia, Wotton, Lancashire, Mills - Schneiderlin, Boyle, Pulis, Wright-Philips - Saganowski, Gasmi. Conspiracy theorists might like to hazard a guess as to why Davis, Surman and Skacel did not feature.

Fitzhugh Fella Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 But given that one of the key reasons for Poortvliet's failure is that he's "too nice", is that not potentially a good thing? Particularly given that the appointments from within that we have made in the past have always been coaches who have been "popular" or "pally" with the players. I agree, I always cringe when I hear the he was popular with the players type of quote but what I hear about Wotte is way beyond him being "unpopular" with the players. In fact the word being used is he is "despised" by the players. And there is other horrible stuff which I would go as far to say is positively toxic (heard it from three good sources and I also know where it originated.) I am worried that we have lept from frying pan into the fire. For me it was never a case of getting rid of JP but more the man who appointed him. But you know that don't you Steve.

hypochondriac Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Surman's missus just had a baby this week. Congrats to Laura! Top bird (once sat on my lap many years ago before her and Andy were an item! )
BotleySaint Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 It is odd that Davis didn't feature... maybe we were seeing if Forecast is actually any good before deciding whether to sell Davis?
Saints67 Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 It is odd that Davis didn't feature... maybe we were seeing if Forecast is actually any good before deciding whether to sell Davis? Or giving the bloke a rest? To be fair he's worked his arse off this season so far.

Jan was worried about a protest maybe Or possibly they didn't think the burger van was a sufficient display of our world class catering for our guests?

trousers Posted 24 January, 2009 Posted 24 January, 2009 Wow, that was the translation? Aye...here's the original if you think you can do better....good luck...!! ;) Harmadik felkészülési mérkőzését játssza ma délután csapatunk Angliában. Ellenfelünk – magyar idő szerint – 17:00 órától a Southampton lesz, amely a Wolves-hoz hasonlóan szintén a Championshipben szerepel. Az Újpest FC várható kezdőcsapata: Kurucz – Dudics, Lipták, Cutuk, Mijadinoski – Bori, Jucemar, Bozsics, Foxi – Rajczi, Kabát (Simon A.) Mario Bozsics tehát játékra kész, míg Kabát Péter szereplése korábbi kisebb sérülése miatt kérdéses. A Southampton – becenevén: a Szentek – jelenleg a 23. helyen áll a Championshipben.

SimonRichards Posted 25 January, 2009 Posted 25 January, 2009 Any idea why? cheers As mentioned in the 'Crouch coming back with money' thread It was to show a potential investor around SMS and to see the squad in action, according to a couple of sources
