Lyanco

With Lynaco on our bench and indeed playing against Gillingham, I assume the cartilage issue, discovered during the medical, is not sufficient enough to justify any surgery?

No additional rumours around him, so I am guessing he will be staying?

Or maybe Beskitas fabricated the cartilage issue because they suddenly realised what they were getting themselves in to... 🤪

Either way we only really have Bednarek and Stephens with ABK injured (and likely off) and Salisu and DCC have left so until we bring in a new CB then, weirdly, I'm quite happy we still have Lyanco, if only that it means we still have a "specialist" CB in case something happens to Jan or Jack. (Excluding younger players like Awe and Simeu).

Lyanco departs and so does his wage and first team shirt, allowing us to bring in someone else. I'm sure he will give his all when called upon.

....Lyanco may well be going, but I for one would be disappointed to see him leave..

OK - He wasn't upto Prem. standard, but showed great enthusiasm and those people he tackled - stayed tackled - and without any red cards.

Romeu would have been proud of him.  In 25 games last season he got and just 5 yellows, and put the frighteners on a lot of opposition defenders.

" I don't know what they do to the enemy, but they frighten the life out of me " .......

..........a  quote from the Duke of Wellington before Waterloo.... when inspecting a regiment of his Prussian mercenaries.

I don't want a defender to frighten the opposition... I want one that marks his man, knows positioning, can head the ball and who doesn't dive in recklessly leaving his defence exposed.

I had a quick read of the Tranmere forum earlier. Do we know what the news is of Simeu?

They seemed to really rate him "...a Rolls Royce of a player at this level, who should be playing in higher leagues."

That said they are League 2 and finished 9th, but he seems to have transformed their defence when he first arrived. Apparently they lost his first two games, then won the next five with five clean sheets. Apparently their keeper went several games without a save to make, and Simeu formed a good partnership with Turnbull.

Did anyone see any of the games or know his current status?

But did he beat his chest every time he did anything. All that fancy schmancy defending is all well and good but you want someone with passion.

Ah.....you mean like one of those Premier League CBs who knows everything about positioning, how to head a ball properly and doesn't make reckless tackles.

Any names come to mind?,...... some of the Prem. clubs are trying to dump players who still can't do that, and it cost them a lot of money to find out the truth.

Saints have had a whole string of those (starting with Hoedt) ..who had all those same faults, thankfully we got rid of another one quite recently.

What about that McGuire fellow(?).  Man United are desperate to get rid of him, and he's got such a good reputation with the England manager, too.

The transfer thread has names there including Harewood-Bellis and Zak Hyner both of whom would be an upgrade. Neither of whom were playing in the Premier League last year.

To each their own. If you're happy with Lyanco as a central defender then all power to you. Personally, I think we can do better.

Saints haven't had a good central defence for some time. Lyanco is just the tail end of our poor recruitment strategy there.

Sorry I offended you by holding a contrary opinion.

No offence taken Coalman, but in recruiting many young ( if talented ) youngsters, we lay ourselves open when coming up against the

Watford's and Millwall's of this league who only seem to recruit 6 '4" rugby players with size 11 boots.  Some of our young talents have

only played U21 football - in albeit good sides - but have rarely come up against the reality of " men's football " in the lower leagues,

where there is no VAR and somewhat dubious refereeing standards.

I don't see Lyanco as a long term solution, but he knows his way around and maybe will serve better as ...." a minder rather than a mentor"

to  the " new youngbloods " until they can find their feet in this very competitive league populated by quite a number of " former Prem. clubs "

all desperate  to get back up to the top tier.   Every side needs a " hard man " and how I  wish we had another Jimmy Case on the books.

FWIW, Lyanco is off to Qatar.

Flippin eck, he’s even messed up his Middle Eastern transfer. He’s shanked it into touch and ended up on a different plane to all the other players going to Saudi Arabia!
