There is some law that however desperate you are for a club to be relegated they somehow survive.  Took that Everton goal as bad as Saints conceding

Especially when that club is Everton. There is a reason why they've never gone down yet.

Brilliant from Pickford, especially the first save after Mount hit the post. Everton won’t go down, they will win their remaining home games even they don’t seal 3 points today.

Whilst useless away, superb energy on the pitch and a raucous crowd behind them, we’ve forgotten what that’s like, no wonder the managers and players keep getting away with being pathetic at SMS. If any Everton player wasn’t visibly giving 100% today they’d be getting hell. Saints players and the manager need a bit of fear as well as the backing when they are trying harder to keep them more honest.

Poor from Havertz when free. Tuchel isn’t taking it easy today even though Chelsea not quite on it.

Mina antics pathetic but look at his organisation and geeing up though. When’s the last time we saw that from any SFC players?

f'n joking aren't you? Seen Leeds fixtures? They are in freefall 😅

Arsenal away looks tough but Chelsea and Brighton at home and Brentford away are all winnable. I can see them surviving with a win on the final day of the season. As for being in freefall, Leeds have won three and drawn two of their last 6 games. The only one they lost was v Man City.

The few decent players Everton have have stepped up to the plate today. Richarlison and Pickford been excellent.

Chelsea creating but no end product.

you are right, somehow thought Leeds were in a rut of form. Still think them or Everton are done.

How did we get wasted by this Chelsea team?

Because we've been utter shite for the last 10-12 matches probably.

Chelsea have been pathetic this half. Hopeful balls to no one in the box.

With Lukaku on the bench. I feel he's been mismanaged this season.

After that game, you'd have to say we need at least one more win before we are safe.

At this stage of the season the teams at the bottom are all battling and winning

We've already given up on the season. Could find ourselves in a very uncomfortable position if this keeps going.

Hopefully Leeds will continue to be crap.

Am I over worrying?

That’s exactly why I’ve never thought Everton would go down. They’ve always had the players to be much, much higher up the league than they are now. It just takes a couple of games where those players turn up and they’re safe. It’s Leeds for the drop IMO.

You probably are but I won't half be uncomfortable if we don't sort it the fuck out and get something out of the Brentford game. We've been playing like we are mathematically safe for weeks. We ain't.

So how confident are we that the 40 points we have currently will be enough to stay up? Got to admit, the rate the teams below us are picking up points has me a little concerned at this point and thinking we may need something from the Brentford game. I don't see us getting a point from our last 2 games.

Yes. We're safe and have been for weeks. Even if we dont pick up another single point, Leeds need 7 from 12, Burnley need 6 from 12 and Everton need 8/9 from 15. While 2 of these may happen, all three situations will not occur. Leeds looking doomed now with their run in

Experience suggests they won't all get to 40 points, but in current form we are edging ourselves dangerously close to a nervy 17th place finish.

That would be a ridiculous surrender by this group of players.

They need to show some fucking fight.

All of a sudden next week's game is pretty important. Can't see us getting anything from the last two games.

This time next year, if it's us sat third/fourth bottom with 34 points from 34 games or 32 from 33 I would absolutely love to see the forum expectation levels and confidence then.

"Don't worry chaps we're on course for 40 points no bother" is what absolutely none of you will be saying.

You attribute absolute invincibility and expect amazing runs of form from shit teams in the relegation zone that you would never, ever, apply to us if it was Saints down there.

It's unlikely of course. But not completely impossible given that many of their remaining games are against teams with little to play for.

All true, and if I had to bet my house on us staying up or not it would obviously go on staying up in our current circumstances. Always that nagging doubt until mathematically safe though and the way we are playing we are going to have to rely on the failure of others to achieve that safety.

You seem to be interpreting what we have said as "we are going down". That isn't what we have said.

Leeds play Arsenal away and Chelsea home in their next two. Both still needing to cement a top 4 spot. Also to play a resurgent Brighton

I am a bit worried after this weekends results, I always feel that goal difference is a good indicator at the end of the season. Us Burnley and the dugouts are all roughly the same, Leeds are on minus 34 .

It is going to be a nervous few weeks.

Ha yeah, let's face it we should have lost that. We were poor and they missed good chances (Fraser did well of course). We've been complete gash ever since the Villa game bar a decent 2nd half against Brighton. They need to wake TF up and play like it means something for these last 3 games.

This.  We aren't going down this season but we could well finish 17th as I fail to see where another point is coming from for us. Leeds now look most likely for the drop.

One thing to say... if we were in the relegation battle proper, with say 34 points, I'd tip us for relegation. I agree with others that the Arsenal win and the Brighton draw have saved our bacon... 36 points and a poor goal difference may not have been enough.

That was a cracking performance from Everton.

I don't think Saints are safe.

At the end of the day, if it did happen it would serve us right.  We had a chance to consolidate a top half position and, as last season, totally fucked it up.

Unless things change soon, it's only a matter of time anyway.

"Relegation threatened team have just won a match so now I believe that team is never going to drop any points ever again" is my favourite SaintsWeb thing.

It's a question as you say.  I agree it's statistically very unlikely that the 3 teams below us will reach 40 points but unlike you I don't think it is completely impossible. So my preference would be that we pull our finger out and get at least a point against Brentford. I'm not saying that I think it is certain that they will all reach 40 points or anything like certain. Hope that helps your understanding.
