Money isn't guaranteed success. It depends how good the manager is (and quality of recruitment), one who overperforms spending is good, one who doesn't is bad.

Thats why Poch and Koeman ended up at PSG and Barca and Puel and MP ended up failing and dropping to much smaller teams than us.

Football is ruled by money, ignoring that is just silly.

Koeman got the Barcelona job entirely off the back of his status as a player there (and Barca being skint/desperate). If his name was Frank Smith with his exact record he'd have never have ever been in contention.

Seriously the real world is a bit more complicated than just spreadsheets.

Didn’t the great job that Eddie Howe did prior to the money turning up, contribute significantly to the money turning up. I doubt he’d have invested in a fourth or fifth tier club. Twar makes implies that Eddie Howe just got lucky with the money. He built the club into a position that enabled them to attract investment. Just as the years he did keep them up and the revenue that followed have meant they haven’t fallen off a cliff like Barnsley, Bradford & Swindon have after their spell with the big boys. I wouldn’t want him managing Southampton particularly, but fuck me anyone who can’t see and appreciate his achievements at Boscombe is clueless. He’s the major reason they’re not the 4th division outfit they were when I moved down here.

He has a weird obsession with Eddie Howe, Villa and Ralph. The first 2 can do nothing right, the last can do nothing wrong.

Anybody can pull out stats to support any argument they want to make. In reality Howe isn't as bad as TWar makes out and Ralph isn't as good.

And Broja, don’t forget broja. Even managed to dig him out in a discussion about the quality of Chris Wood…

Hang on a minute, the other day you were claiming Howes only turned Newcastle round because he had money. You were desperately talking up Tripper and Bruno, claming Burn and Wood were better than what we had. So now money doesn’t guarantee success, it’s how good the manager is. Make your mind up.

very naive way of looking at things.

Koeman has been ridiculously hit and miss other than his spell at Saints. He went to Everton, where he had a huge budget and is generally considered a failure.

MoPo, is at PSG, who have the biggest budget in football and he’s not exactly pulling up trees.

Puel, in his one season (and limited budget it should be said), hugely outperformed any manager since Koeman.

Koeman was a success here because of the players he brought in, not how much they cost.

Pelle (£8m) was far a greater player than Carrillo (£20m)

Mane (£11.5m) was far better than Boufal (£16m).

What would Puel have achieved with Mane, Tadic & Pelle up top? Who knows? But they were far more talent than Redmond, Boufal & Austin

Where he failed at B’mouth was his attacking style which meant they let in loads of goals , a bit like us without the

scoring goals bit !

Still looks like Fulham and Bournemouth for auto promotion although Huddersfield could still do it, I would love Luton to come up, have a good mate who follows them home and away and a good core of their support stuck with them in non league, Kenilworth Road in the Premier league would be magic.

I hope it’s Fulham and Bournemouth. South coast derby with Bournemouth is decent, despite some of their gobby fans I’ll always have a soft spot for the Cherries. And Fulham is a brilliant away day, the pubs and walk to the ground along the Thames are glorious.

It is but bit boring having the same teams coming up again. Looks like it’ll be those two Come up automatically. Would love to see Luton, Coventry, Forest or millwall come up, millwall in the premier league would be magnificent.

We loved going in The Boat spoons pub had some great beers in there.

The best being the 3 nil win with Rickies  amazing pass to Jayrod.

The neutral area is great but we’re charging over £50 a ticket last time

I was just looking at the table, Coventry coming up would be good after all the SISU shit they had to go through.  like you say, Luton would be a fairytale.

For Millwall, it would be funny I guess, though I went to the Den a couple of times (only once to watch Saints), and to be honest it was pretty sterile. If it’s still the same, you get funnelled straight into the away section off the train before and after the game, being kept fully away from the home fans. I suppose if you went drinking around Bermondsey pre game it would be a bit livelier….

True, but also I know a few Huddersfield fans and they are a good fanbase from what I've seen.

Cowards walk they call that. Yeah but lively down Bermondsey and reckon there’d be some interesting away days as well, plus the outrage that they wouldn’t take the knee would be brilliant. Although if they started to it would be proof if anywhere needed clubs are forced to do it

One game in London a few years back got talking with a load of Millwall fans in pub. Proper old school hard menfrom the past. They were laughing saying so many fans give them shit knowing they were safe and nothing like the old Den. Told them that we been to that a couple of times and one of those times probably is still the most scared I’ve been at a game!

Another vote for Millwall here. Good away game and always fun to see 14 year olds doing throat slit gestures and grown women giving us a load of shit.

Makes me laugh because you get on the train with loads of their fans from London Bridge and then have to walk down a fenced off alleyway to the away end.

Their fans are fine as long as you don't walk around Bermondsey taking the piss.

As long as our fans don't start singing I'm forever blowing bubbles again,  it's a good away day plenty of good pubs around London Bridge,  there seems too many London clubs in top flight now.

Unlikely they'll make play offs though, Luton or Forest both good for me

Love to see Milwall and Luton come up for all the reasons stated already.  Last time they were top tier they very often took 3000 away but often 5 or even 6000. Modern seating won't allow that sadly. Some of the first matches my dad took me to in circa 1978 were Saints v Millwall and also a 4-1 away win at Kenilworth Rd, us in the Luton stand biting our lips.

Which is exactly what we always do up there

F-Troop v The DEF. When two worlds collide 😬

In the book Ding Dongs with Del there is a famous picture of millwalls mob laying in a pool of bloody with a flag draped over them saying “DEF turning lions into pussy cats since 1995”

I hope Bournemouth come back up but have a hunch they'll blow it. Their fixtures include four (out of six) against promotion rivals (think it includes Coventry and Forest). Very much in their own hands though.

Luton ? Having been to Kenilworth Road in the 1980's I wouldn't consider anything magical about that cesspit being in the top division again.

Give me this over a trip to the Emirates any day

Can’t imagine they come Top of any match day experience survey amongst the Instagram generation but I’d rather go there than the emirates 10000000 times over

I took my nipper to the game during Nigel’s promotion season. The only milwall fan we spoke to was the guard on the train coming home. Referee gave us 2 penalties at the end.

Off the top of my head I’m pretty sure that was the same day as the Muamba incident.

There is a brilliant interview with Lambert about that game and his last penalty.

He lost his composure couldn’t make up his mind and at last minute his foot turned the keeper dived wrong way looked like he had been outdone

Can you outline the difference between real football and non real football?

(Without mentioning FIFA or FM)

Real football is non league , unreal football is multimillionaire owners / State funds or leverage buyouts . Non real football is having a team made up of players from another country . Arsenal being the front runners in fielding a non UK team .

Is football the business not real? 🤔

"Real football" to me is something that's founded in a local community and culture. The money coming into the game has eroded that.

As has been painfully obvious for weeks, Watford and Norwich all but gone. Watfords usual 1600 managers in a season once again didn't work out for them.

Burnley, it depends who they get, but you have to say they're staring into the abyss themselves. Everton are lucky fuckers.
