Tuesday night Burnley v Watford. A win for Watford creates a gap between them and the bottom 3 a win for Burnley lifts them off bottom and puts Watford back into trouble. Big game.

Will Burnley bother to turn up?

Did you see Watford’s game after that is Friday against Norwich.

So they do, massive week for them then. A couple of wins and they pull away from the bottom 3.

It is madness that Norwich - who have been appalling - are 3rd bottom and only 1 point from safety.

If course, that is aided by them having played more than anyone else (4 more than Burnley), with Newcastle and Watford both being shite

Expand

Yep, and it still gets me how Newcastle and Burnley, who have only won one match after 20 and 17 matches need just another win and a Watford loss and one of them can get out of the relegation zone. Madness, any other season and one win at this stage would see you cut adrift.

In other news, Leicester have only played one league fixture since Boxing Day. Rodgers' sides usually collapse in the second half of the season, wonder if the same will happen this season given the systematic break they've created.

Burnley v Newcastle, is their last game of the premiereship season.  I do hope that the gods of football are lining up a Chris Woods own goal that keeps Burnley up and condemns Newcastle to the championship.  I would love it... as some famous bloke once said.

Sold Digne due to his dispute with Benitez, then sack Benitez like a week later. Probably the worst run club in the league.

Weird take. Especially considering your love for Rafa who also got relegated recently.

Do you not think that Howe done a good job at bournemouth, by getting them from the bottom of L2 to a regular premier league team?

I think Bournemouth were very wealthy and Howe did well as a lower league manager but when he got to the prem he consistently underperformed their spending until getting relegated. Fine at lower levels, poor at the top level. Like Adkins.

Rafa managed some of the biggest clubs in the world with two Spanish league titles, an fa Cup, a champions league, a two Europa leagues, the Spanish Cup and a few other things too. Eddie Howe has won one thing ever, a championship trophy. An achievement so unimpressive compared to Rafa I didn't even bother to list the one he won.

To compare the two is honestly a bit ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as Ralph to the lad in charge of San Marino but its up there.

I acknowledge he did a serviceable job in the lower leagues with a good budget before failing in the big leagues like many others before him.

Both taking a side down is a very uncharitable way to put it, given Rafa had a crap side and no backing for half a season and took over when they were in the relegation zone. Howe had his team for years and couldn't organise the defence so they went down.

That's because you always blame the manager for everything and don't consider lack of backing or injuries or anything, you were the same with Ralph last season.

You might have limited comprehension but atleast you are consistent.

The situation at Everton goes beyond the manager. They are tied up by FFP because they spent shit loads a few years ago, that spending should have propelled them to the Top 4 levels, but it didn't as their scouting, not just one or two...but most of their signings have been as bad as anything I've ever seen to be honest.

They've got themselves in a right mess through terrible recruitment, they gave Rafa the baton knowing that he'd be working with freebies and the such in the market (although they did get Dignes replacement before they sold him). He's not blameless, but there are deeper problems at Everton beyond the manager.

Ideally they need a massive clear-out. Iwobi, Gomes, Keane, Coleman, Allan need to go and they need to reinvest similar to how we are operating. I didn't see it coming a few years ago, but I think we've stolen a bit of a march on Everton in terms of our own development from a similar, albiet much less extreme, situation.

Yep although with the amounts they have spent I don’t see them getting relegated, as they are PL capable players, but if Evertonians ever thought they’d propel into a regular top 8 club with those purchases they’re deluded.
I’m very glad at their plight, just need Newcastle to also use up their FFP allowance regardless of their owners and that’ll give us a good chance to steal a march if we have a window where we get all our signings right.

This is where his comparison with Adkins is ridiculous. Adkins managed for half a season in the top flight. Howe kept Boscombe there for 4. There are 10 teams that will get relegated if they have a poor season, If Burnley go down this season, Twar will probably claim Dyche was out of his depth 🤪

Stevie G is below us in the table, thanks for checking...

It was a good appointment, Rafa is a internationally renowned CL winning manager. Not his fault his only two good forwards were out most of the season and he didn't have any investment as Everton are financially crippled by ffp.

Burnley spent nothing, Bournemouth spent a fortune. Dyche has kept his team up despite being consistently in the bottom 3 for spend for years. Howe went down having been in the top half for spend.

What do you mean the "injury card", if your best players are injured then you will do worse. Everton have 3 good players (two now Digne is gone) and they have all been out for big spells.

Too much nuance, if the team does bad its always the manager 100% of the time. That's why these fools come on after any loss and blame Ralph immediately, SKDman even tried to blame Ralph for Valery getting sent off in a game we won the other day.

They didn't have players out anywhere the quality of DCL or Richarlison, or players nearly as important to them as those two.

fairplay Leeds, they've been thin on the ground and still played. Don't know how I was unaware, but 2 week 'winter break' at the end of the month? Surely the postponed games will be getting rearranged for then, Leicester have already had a break

Isn't it a designated international break, not a winter break.

I know South America countries are playing catching up with fixtures,  European countries not playing, not sure about Asia. Some clubs already have players at African nations and will have Brazil / Argentina players so I doubt any Premier league games will be played.
