Lighthouse Posted 4 August, 2021 Posted 4 August, 2021 We’ve sold a 29 year old, injury prone version of Beattie, with one year left on his contract, who didn’t want to be here for £30m. I’m actually mildly impressed, I was expecting it to be nearer £20m and to Spurs. 44
Edmonton Saint Posted 4 August, 2021 Posted 4 August, 2021 Look at the team tonight, it's terrible. Tella, Redmond, Adams? Where are the goals? Stephens still in defence? The way we limped home last season with spineless, pathetic displays, I think we are going to be in a relegation battle all season, I'm not sure they have the guts to survive. Is the 30 million worth going down?

Selling a bloke with a dodgy knee and poor injury record, aged 29, in the last year of his contract isn't one of them though. 11

mrfahaji Posted 4 August, 2021 Posted 4 August, 2021 Decent fee. Didn't go to Spurs. Perhaps I was naive in thinking that he genuinely wanted to challenge himself "at the top level", even if that meant being a back up. Villa seems an odd move. Just because it's decent business doesn't mean we shouldn't be a bit wary of how it will impact us on the field though, I'm finding the dismissive tone here rather surprising. He's clearly a class above most of our players, and when that class is in front of goal it's going to be hard to replace. Adams has qualities, but composure in front of goal isn't one them unfortunately. We will struggle to replace him, even for £25m, unless our recruitment is really firing. That being said, at least with £25m we have a chance to find someone decent, or bolster the squad elsewhere. 1
