Yeh the Athletic had an article on it, basically most of the recent winners of Euros and World Cups going back like 30 years, aside I think one of the Spain wins, have been basically solid and were not that attacking nor that convincing in the group stages.

There is something to be said for football going in phases where one style or formation comes into vogue it follows along to a natural pinnacle of that thing as everyone copies and then comes another often overlooked as old fashion thing to knock it of it perch because it exploits a weakness that was not evident playing against other versions of itself. The ever evolving world of football, although any of these can be overcome by an individual moment of brilliance or undone by momentary lapse.

Fair play France, they've turned up second half. Feel a bit for the Swiss, but once the French turned it up they stood no chance tbh.

I dunno, if that penalty goes in, I don’t think France would have been in a good place mentally.
