I'm starting to think I want us to play Germany next.

Yeh, Sterling will murder Hummels, and Rudiger is as thick as shite. They’re poor at the back

Can't belief France didn't get a penalty at the end, for that studs on the back of the leg challenge.

Hope that ref gets sent home after some of his questionable choices.

He'll probably get given our game against Germany and we'll get knocked out thanks to some controversial decision.

Reckon German fans will be as pessimistic as England fans after that for our match!

Our side of the draw looks very very open after that game though.

Germany feel more beatable than in previous years. If we can do them it really opens up.

You'd like to think the winner of our match is one of the semi-finalists.

Funny how everyone has been saying we get the toughest route to the final if we won the group. If we can get past Germany, it’ll at best be Holland

Germany won’t be an easy game, even as below-par as they’ve been.

That said, we’ve got Wembley for most of our matches now too.

I just really, really would have liked somebody else, not because I'm worried about losing, but we get this fixture every single fucking tournament.

It would have been nice, if just once, we got someone else.

Every single tournament?

Jesus wept.

When was the last tournament we got Germany? 2010 South Africa?

Personally, I think Germany at Wembley is a great fixture. No doubt it’ll go to pens.

Three times in the last 30 years?

Only two of them knockout games!

We’ve played them in the following tournament games:

2010: lost 4-1

2000: won 1-0

1996: drew 1-1 lost on pens

1990: drew 1-1 lost on pens

1982: drew 0-0

1972: drew 0-0

1966: won 4-2

Hardly every tournament…

.... In my lifetime.

Well if you're twelve years old we played Germany in South Africa and then again on Tuesday, 11 years and five tournaments later.

They are certainly more suspect at the back. However England made Scotland look solid at the back.

Germany showed lots of cutting edge against Portugal(even if portugal are decidedly average bar Ronaldo)

Yep. It's been 4 years since they reached a major semi-final, and 6 years since getting to a final. So they are long overdue.

Shite Germany > Golden generation England.

Jordan Henderson misses decisive penalty in shoot-out...

SWF: "Ward-Prowse would have buried that"

Everyone moans when a certain poster does pedantry, but clearly all you need is some loose hyperbole, and suddenly all the forum experts crawl out of their caves to smugly point out that the day before Wednesday was Tuesday.

England vs Germany, at Wembley, in a Euros knockout game, with Southgate as manager....

It’s going to go to penalties isn’t it?

If it does, I wonder who will win?

Depends, either cosmic irony or a redemption arc is a pretty good narrative.

Southgate already broke England’s World Cup penalty curse after all.

If we’re doing predictions, let’s see how this ages. My predictions are:

R16 - Denmark, Italy, NL, Belgium, Spain, France, Germany, Sweden

QF - France, Italy, NL, Germany

SF - Germany, Italy

Winners - Italy

That left hand side is brutal. I don't fancy Austria going all the way.

I dunno, if they can get past Italy, then past Belgium/Portugal, then past France, it does open up for them a bit after that.

In fairness, someone saying "we always get Germany every time" is like something your Mum would say. It deserved the treatment it got.

Hardly every tournament…

You missed out 1970 lost 3-2 (after being 2-0 up) in the Mexico WC. Think this was a QF, certainly the most painful of the lot as I recall although may be because I was much younger and we had hopes/expectations of playing Brazil again in the final.

Wasn't 1972 a qualifying game ? If so thought we lost one leg (at home),2-0 or 3-1.
