Can virtually count on your thumbs the number of decent chances Germany had, thanks to us nullifying them.

With that just needed at least one of our chances to actually be finished, and it worked for us.

That said, we avoid Belgium/Italy/Spain until the final so we won’t need to be brilliant to get there. Real chance to grind out a trophy.

Luke Shaw was very good, both goals, especially Kane's, stemmed from his key involvement. We make 'em well down in Southampton.

Yep, we blew it in ‘18 when we had a decent draw as well, but the players are more experienced now and we’re home for semis & final.

A fairly turgid game punctuated by one piece of real quality from England and a bit of a let off just after.

Glad Kane got a goal, fingers crossed that sparks him up for the rest of the games. Also Pickford was decent, made a couple of smart saves and always seems to perform decently when I see him in an England shirt.

Overall still not convinced about England, must get a bit more positive but there's no denying that beating the Germans is sweet even if this is not their best line up.

Oh, and play Grealish from the start please.

His first euros was an absolute disaster and his first World Cup was quarter final. Southgate has done better already

Harry Maguire got names Uefa man of the match. Very well deserved, he was great and adds a different dimension pushing forward rather than just a defender.

The big Union Jack with Southampton was behind the goal again, there was another hanging over the second tier that I saw and also a 'Calmore Saints' one. Probably others, usually a few on show at England matches.

We were much better second half, in the first it was noticeable that we had a very half-arsed press going on, with Rice and Phillips pressing their DMs without any of our CBs stepping up, allowing Havertz to get the ball time and time again. Midfield two were less aggressive in the second half and Stones noticeably stepping forward more to cover when they went AWOL.

Can't very well sit here and complain about the performance when we've just dumped the bloody Germans out!
