Super_Uwe Posted 24 May, 2021 Share Posted 24 May, 2021 Just spotted that Lille are Ligue 1 champions this season. Jose Fonte turns 38 this year but he's played a big role there, and still going strong! How we've missed his leadership at the back for Saints. Yes he probably left at the right time for all parties, but we haven't properly replaced him in the 4 years since he went.
Kingsland Red Posted 24 May, 2021 Share Posted 24 May, 2021 He must still live somewhere in Sussex as he drives up the A21/M25/A2 to the Ebbsfleet Eurostar station. Unless someone else has a Porsche reg no F0NT3 ( I think it was as it passed in a blur !). Coaching role ?
CB Fry Posted 24 May, 2021 Share Posted 24 May, 2021 I take more amusement from Pochettino coming second in a one horse race. 1

Always seemed to care and was at the heart of the team when we had some great times.

And yeah, perfectly doable as the Eurostar to Lille is pretty quick (if on time lol). Suppose it would be no different to Saints players commuting from the Midlands or far South West for example. Portugalsaint Posted 24 May, 2021 Share Posted 24 May, 2021 Dave Merrington was saying yesterday that we needed a coach for our defence. Ralph is without backroom staff, he didn’t bring his own? No better than Jose Fonte, he loved Southampton, living and playing. Would get a massive reception too?

Fonte and Galtier are certainly a winning combination: Galtier and Fonte's leadership helped Lille to beat the odds (dailyherald.com)
