Makes even more of a mockery of the fact we let him go. He could still be in the centre of defence for us now.

Absolutely wouldn’t suit our style now. Too slow. But agree as an out and out defender better than we have and a true leader.

Shows how respected he was at the club at one point when we got rid of a 20m£ player for basically nothing, after he gave fonte a pasting.

Id love to see him return at one point as a coach and / or manager.

According to the Guardian, he is suspended for this one, although Lille are appealing because one booking was not filed properly.

Let's not forget Jeremy Pied is there too.  We could have done with him this year as cover for KWP.

Come off it, he’s 37 and playing in France. We saw his best years, he left at the perfect time for us and we even got £8m for him.

Managed to keep two clean sheets against Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria this season, maintaining the best defensive record in the league.

Meanwhile we conceded 3 goals to Wear Brom maintaining the worst defensive record in the league.

If you just want to cherry pick results, Florin Gardos once kept clean sheets against Man Utd and Arsenal in the space of ten days. If you think Fonte would have somehow made that West Brom result better, well I most definitely disagree. Last time I saw Fonte in this League, Gabbiadini had him on toast. The intensity of the French league is far, far lower.

100%. If Fonte was still Premier League standard he wouldn't have been bombed out of West Ham United as a laughing stock. He's found his level and good for him.
