Have they said which TV channel this is going to be on?

The line up on Sky last night named five games plus 'three others' which leaves two not on Sky. We were not one of the five named but as others have very kindly given the Sky channel on here I can assume that we must be one of the 'also rans'.

Arsenal   16:00   Brighton & Hove Albion

Aston Villa   16:00   Chelsea

Fulham   16:00   Newcastle United

Leeds United   16:00   West Bromwich Albion

Leicester City   16:00   Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool   16:00   Crystal Palace

Manchester City   16:00   Everton

Sheffield United   16:00   Burnley

West Ham United   16:00   Southampton

Wolverhampton Wanderers16:00Manchester United

Think he did, but long before Koeman's days with us though.

Pretty certain that was under Strachan and it was a Monday night game - Strachan had taken the team to Rod Stewarts house just up the road as WGS and him are mates, Rod has a full size footie pitch in the garden so a nice relaxing warm up/stretch then a short trip down the road to West Ham. Good job they were "just round the corner" as the traffic was horrendous and the team were eventually at the ground less than an hour before kick off - certain Beattie stuck the ball in the net in the last knockings of the game. Might even been the line "late to the ground and late to take all 3 points".

It could be the wrong one nil away I'm thinking of

Pretty sure that's the one - Ormerod crossed to Beattie in the 93rd minute or something. Think we got battered for most of the match and smash and grabbed at the end. Seem to remember Niemi having a very good game.

Pretty sure we did the same against Villa away that year too - Beattie pen, 1-0 smash and grab. Oh the good old days when we could defend.. (or had a very good GK and CB pairing).

........and a team conditioned with 120 minutes of playing in the tank. The last 10 minutes under Strachan were invariably the best 10 minutes of the game especially if we were in search of a result.

Wasn't just a good GK though, he was outstanding with many pundits and neutrals calling him the best in the league.

Of course over his career Shilton would take the accolade as the best GK to ever play for us, but I rate Niemi as the best GK I've seen for Saints based on their displays for us. (Expect to be shot down by many now).

Nope, all correct. Niemi is the best keeper I have seen at Saints along with Flowers.

Agree , shame Flowers went to Blackburn (at the time a record fee for a keeper I think), surprised you left off Tommy Fourpast from your list though.

You are of course correct, I have done Niemi a disservice there - he was excellent. Best GK I’ve seen for Saints (started from Beasant)

So, if I may ask before this thread heats up before kick-off, who's your all-time favourite character who has pulled on the shirt or managed? From distance over here, I thought Harry Redknapp was hardcase but I understand many of you dislike him.

Brian Miller whom  we bought from Burnley. He was called the hardest tackler in Div One it said on cards in cornflake packets written by Arsenal's gaolie

Are you sure you mean Brian Miller? I thought he only ever played for BURNLEY (apologies if I'm wrong) . I think maybe you are thinking of Brian O'Neil. Jimmy Case was a pussy compared to O'Neil, but I always thought John McGrath was the real, original hardman. Terry Curran was also a bit of a nutcase, in the nicest possible sense. Most of them wouldn't last 2 minutes in today's PL.

Little before my time. Guessing like Casey he would have been sent off faster than jankewitz if he were playing today.

The great days of 'The Alehouse'.

Honorable mentions to Jimmy Gabriel, Dave Walker, and Dennis Hollywood, but I think the two you mention were a cut above the rest.

maybe, I couldn’t say who was the hardest, I thought the original question was about favourites. Hard case doesn’t have the exact same meaning in New Zealand ish.

Some thoughts from the Happy Hammers

https://www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=180379

Fair play to them qualifying for Europe, one of the clubs who would take good numbers abroad, I always remember when they played Palermo in Sicily, what an away trip that must have been.

Funny how both of us were promoted in 2012, both qualified for Europe in 2015 and 2016 and managed to mess it up against random opposition (Midgetland and Hapoel Be'ersheeva in our case, they lost to the same Romanian outfit two years in a row)

Haha. Get Whelk in the dressing room. A classic half-time  team-talk.

No messing about with formations, flat back fours, false number 9's, no 4 2 2 2, or 3 4 3, slipping to a 3 5 2, no flip charts on where you should stand when we have a corner, no "long ball", "play through the middle", tippy tappy bollocks........just get Whelk in there with his team talk. Job done! Well played Sir!

That's what I thought. Always used to play with his socks round his ankles.

I remember Brian O' Neill once going in full pelt, studs up into some poor sod's thigh. Nastiest tackle I;ve ever seen and to our amazement he wasn't sent off. Presume he must have annoyed Brian as I only saw him go in quite as viciously as that the once. I rather suspect that Jimmy Gabriel was actually the hardest player we ever had, as I remember that much to the amusement and delight of the Milton Rd end when the officials were racing up the pitch he trotted up to the oppsosing centre forward and chinned him and wasn't seen by officials. He carried on trotting innocentky up the pitch and got away with it. Can't remember who it was but might have been Astle or someone like him who tought he was hard.Mc Grath was hard and strong but never really dirty but very intimidating. He always came out last with a shirt one size too small accentuating his barrell chest and high cut sleeves to show off his biceps like the bouncers at Winchester Lido.

Quite interesting, mostly respectful and balanced, apart from some twat from Eastleigh who “hates” Southampton.

Probably time to close this brief digression down and concentrate on the game but I confused everybody with NZ slang (hardcase):  (New Zealand, slang) An amusing, funny, witty, or possibly strange person. May be used as a term of endearment.

Sorry about that.

Regulation home win. Antonio. Muscling us away like a giant taking a lollipop off a five year old.
redmond plays and finally actually dribbles up his own arse. After missing a few times.
mccarthy falls off bench after unlucky misjudgment of space and physics.
tella breaks teeth after smiling too much

jwp practices golf swing in tunnel

vestergard wears Leicester top by mistake. Realises mistake with two minutes to go

ralph admits he has been unlucky all season on injuries and nasty players who don’t like him   Orders tighter trackies

ings looks mysterious and distanced, fuelling rumours he is mysterious and distanced

walcott forgets he’s said that one about how he feels good to be home twenty two times already in after match interview. hones hair

moyes says saints are great but no one understands his accent

Karen brady does lap of pitch with her top off, shouting ‘I’ve still got it! Them! I’ve still got them!

Yeah the Eastleigh bloke clearly got bullied by Saints fans at school.

As a general rule West Ham fans I've met are quite old school, stadium move had a been a disaster for them,  loved our visits to the Boleyn , we always took good numbers , I'm in no rush to go back to the Athletics track just not the same.

There's always a twat from Eastleigh who hates Southampton,  once had an Eastleigh Scouse, Evertonian and Gooner telling me Saints fans are the most arrogant in the country and they both wanted us to lose every game, made laugh anyway, glory hunting tossers

Strange lot them! Support your local team, even if it’s the weirdos up the m27, they still deserve more respect than a plastic

No they aren't. Recent recruitment has been pretty good. To compare now to the mess we were in from 2005 to 2009 is bizarre.

Just an opinion that we have some crap still, how many out on loan still? and were looking to try and shift who?,so no not all the recruitment has been pretty good

and add to the fact that these players are very well paid i would argue that the management of these assets was poor aswell.

I said recent recruitment. How many Hasenhuttl era signings have been flops?

Really hoping we can finish the season on a high - will be interesting to see who Ralph picks upfront alongside Ingsy in Che's absence. I personally would go for Obafemi as he looked sharp when he came on recently. 2-1 to us Ings and Prowsey to score - COYR :)
