Presumably because of the exodus of Saints fans fed up with severely lacking content, it looks like the Athletic have actually gone and done a decent article on the subtle change of tactics deployed by Ralph - https://theathletic.com/2585403/2021/05/14/ralph-hasenhuttls-hybrid-defence-is-designed-to-help-southampton-create-more-chances/?source=emp_shared_article

Maybe Bertrand read this and realised his time was up.

But according to people on here, Ralph is tactically inept?

All I saw were people crying out for Ralph to change tactics, when he does, you criticise the people asking for that very thing.

I though similar ( well, not suggesting he first heard about it there) when I read same article this morning. That new line up doesn't really have a place for him apart from odd games where the opposition may warrant us attacking via the left wing instead of the right. Could see him spending a lot of time on the bench with that formation. May explain the

We changed tactics the other night instead of the plod plod of first 10-15 we suddenly moved it far quicker and tempo than recent games.

Only issue I had was Minamino staying on but that kept another squad player fresh for Saturday.

He has changed tactics around a fair bit, some of our fans still think we play a 442 so I don't know if most fans would even notice. Redmond in the side instead of Che changes us pretty majorly, makes us play with more of a false 9 style rather than a little and large esque strike partnership. Armstrong over Diallo is a big change too. He pushes really high and forces the 10s to play a lot deeper so we almost look like a 442 diamond.
