Trader Posted 18 April, 2021 Share Posted 18 April, 2021 Congratulations to our Women’s team for reaching the last 16 in the Women’s FA Cup. A fantastic achievement, beating Lewes, a team 2 divisions higher than them. It’s really a shame that due to Covid, and two abandoned seasons that the promotions that their quality deserved has been denied them. Maybe the powers that be will promote them a few divisions, as they are clearly above the standard the their league position indicates.
jawillwill Posted 18 April, 2021 Share Posted 18 April, 2021 Crikey, saw they'd been drawn against Lewes the other day. Assumed they'd have no chance of going any further. Good work Saints!
Saint_clark Posted 18 April, 2021 Share Posted 18 April, 2021 Two cracking goals scored by saints too, well worth a look.
jawillwill Posted 18 April, 2021 Share Posted 18 April, 2021 Just seen the scores for the other games in the round. West Ham won 11-0. Arsenal won 10-0. Sheffield United won 9-0. I don't think it really says anything about the quality of the women's game, other than the gulf between the different leagues is even bigger than the men's. Makes cup upsets like those by Southampton seem more impressive.
Nolan Posted 18 April, 2021 Share Posted 18 April, 2021 Given Southampton FC Women have played pretty much sod all competitive matches in the last 12 months, and to play against a team playing regular football... To progress another round is bloody impressive.

Makes even more of a mockery of the fact that United were allowed to buy their way into the top league after only just setting their team up, while we were turned down. Another good example of corruption in football. They were so desperate to evidence the "growing popularity of the women's game " the authorities just wanted Man Utd in there to piggyback on their support base, no attempt to promote on merit like a sporting competition should. John Boy Saint Posted 19 April, 2021 Share Posted 19 April, 2021 Good to see the Ladies showing the chaps how its done, although anyone with half an eye on Saints ladies over the past couple of seasons will know that they have, more often than not, been better that the league they are trying to get out of. Next round will be interesting against WSL Birmingham City.

Some of these teams who lost might not have played for 6 months or something and been up against others who are playing every week.
