Disappointing to see Villa CEO clearly has zero gumption

"What we need to find is a way to enable these two tournaments to thrive and they won’t be better off without those clubs," said Purslow.

As much as I dislike the whole thing, he's not wrong is he.

Cracking statement from Wolves, including this :

“But these individuals have plotted and schemed to find a way to exist in a small and comfortable bubble, free from the challenge of fair competition. And now they have united the whole of the football world against them.”

Nice 👍😂

But surely the news reports wouldn't have led on it for 48 hours if it was just posturing?

What a load of old bollocks.

Fan power. Underestimated the scale of reaction

It's been a good 48 hours entertainment to be fair.

Apparently Gao has asked if Saints can take Chelsea's place

BREAKING: All 12 clubs are meeting tonight to discuss disbanding the Super League.

lol. What are they disbanding? There was nothing in place! Load of fools.

It's a bit of a weird couple of days. It didn't ever seem possible it would happen and I'm not sure what made these superpowers believe it would ever be allowed. All in all a truly bizarre 48 hours. It's given some interesting news to follow though.

Seriously don't let them off just like that, 1 year ban from European football for all as a warning at least. Make life difficult for them.

Oh yeah for sure, non-entity faces running these clubs. All this has shown up is their total lack of understanding of 'football - not soccer. This is a fan sport and they thought it was a media show pony. Wrong.

Good one Roman, your richer than god but you know which way the wind is blowing.

Always best to look like the club who listened to their fans and get the kudos whilst the rest have permanently damaged theirs as they dribble back into the champions league

Don't think it's that.

Johnson's comments today seemed fairly pointed at Abramovich today without actually saying his name that Abramovich just thought it isn't worth the heat.

Chelsea want their new stadium to go through etc and other such shit.

I think that means more to him than the ESL and let's face it, it's pretty ambiguous at best.

This isn't fans or fan power, this is Chelsea, City & Spurs not wanting to take the gamble of being chucked out of the Premier League and CL.

Reports today from several Blue tick journos that UEFA were deadly serious.

Nothing will happen, they'll be lauded for withdrawing and it will be forgotten that at one point they were ready to turn their back on football.

There is no guts in Uefa/Fifa/PL to do anything to these clubs now. It will carry on as normal, and give it a year and we'll have another proposal - whether that's a super duper ultra league or 'project big picture'.

The reality is that these super wealthy clubs are staring at a world they've never seen before - financial struggle. On top of that, they are paying players like Messi almost £1m a week. This is all that's made these big clubs act, they've spent obscene amounts of money and the chickens are now coming to roost - they can't sustain it, so they are looking for ways to run away from the problem and bury it at the expense of other, less glamorous teams. Not sure how they thought it would be allowed.

At the very least govt should go ahead with the german ownership model.

It'll be disgusting if they are allowed away with no repercussions.

Yes tell Gao that Saints voice now have voting rights 51% of his club 🤣

But I agree would be good to shift the culture of the Premier league away from these owners.

And what punishment for this conspiracy against football? Probably nothing but I'd like to see a big points deduction and even relegation. They'll get away with it though.

I'd love to see that, but I think we all know how this shapes out. Brushed under a carpet and they hope we'll all forget!

…Until next time.

So Chelsea, City, Barca and Atletico all basically confirmed to be pulling out. I wonder who the last hangers-on will be? Juve and Arsenal I reckon.

Welcome them back with open arms, then start them all on -30 points next season, and hope the powers that be take this seriously as future threat that needs to be stopped.

But there's been a goal in the 91st minute.......

to Swindon. What a shame.

I know we mock but Swindon are far ans away worst side in that division. Cowley one point in last 4 games. Not even going to have a bottling of play offs.

They’ve shot their load now. The only power they had was the threat of a breakaway league and now everyone knows they ain’t got the balls for it. Hopefully this is an opportunity to make sure things are in place to ensure it never happens again and also an opportunity for greater governance within the premier league.  Another positive is that the other 14 clubs in the premier league will realise that together they can gang up on the big 6.

I would have liked it to have gone on long enough for Arteta to have got absolutely rinsed in a pre-match press conference....what makes you think you deserve to be in elite competition ahead of West Ham/Leicester/etc etc.
