Yes we wuz robbed.  Somewhere along the line Worcs had a dodgy one innings bash that they won because it was in the rules at that time. Can't remember the exact conditions needed for such a match (no play on the first two days or something like that). We didn't match the conditions for a game like that so they got 10 free points or similar and we sat around in the pavilion somewhere or other.

Do we have any idea who'll be available for Hants on finals day? Is Short still around and available?

Adding insult to injury, I think in those days it was 0 points for a wash out draw. Ridiculous.

Yes, a draw was of no value in those days, just whatever bonus points you'd got. Probably why there were so many arranged declarations .

Looked at the playing group for tomorrow. Looks a bit weak. No Short, Gubbins doesn't qualify, just the usual regulars and the young players. Somerset on the other hand look to be at nigh on full strength with their test players returning. Might bode ill for tomorrow but perhaps they won't capitulate so easily in next week's championship game.

Not going very well in the T20. Hants 81/5 after about 13. Weatherley has made more than half of that total. Batting didn't look anywhere near good enough to trouble Somerset's battery of bowlers overmuch. Still we beat Notts from a similar poor start so who knows.

From 84:5 after 14 overs to finish on 150 is quite a turn around. At least there's something to defend.

And defending well.

They gave that a good shot - Weatherly gave them a defendable total but again dreadful batting from the top order. Then a bit of inexperience from Wheal whose radar was a bit out. Disappointing but to get to the final with such an average team was a great achievement. Ultimately Somerset’s long tail won them the game

Another stellar batting performance. Hopefully the bowlers can follow up their good startr and keep the Lancashire score down tomorrow.

Looking at the other scores, in Div 2 the Essex v Northants game had 25 wickets on day 1.

Could be academic if Warks get their 4th batting point. Then no one can catch them if they go on to win (which is very possible given how Somerset are currently playing).

There's always the Bob Willis Trophy....

Shame Hants couldn't finish them off from 47:7. Still, we have spent the whole season doing things the hard way. Would losing the title by half a point be a successful season or a failure ?

More gutting that Warks got to 350 from 320ish for 9… apparently they needed 11 off an over to get the extra batting point and got them.  The batter?  Danny Briggs!

Opening with Mason Crane, what an inspired decision. Hants 1:2, effectively 3:2.

Are you at the ground, or going tomorrow for la grande finale?

Crane opening very odd - yes he topscored first innings but it says everything about our batters to do that !. Hard to work out if the new ball is unplayable or our batsmen can’t bat but both sides struggled so far with partnerships in the tail. Hopefully we can do that and push on to 200 which will be hard to chase down - Vince / Weatherly and Dawson putting us in a better position. Could go either way this….

What an exciting/nervous finish. Lancs lose 4th just before tea. They need 78, Hants need the 6 wickets. About 50-50 at this stage? At least now the Warks match is irrelevant and Hants can’t lose the title by half a point.

How frustrating. Let Lanky get away too quickly with Alex Davies and left us just a hair's breadth short.

Oh well, I'll settle for the Wurzels preventing a Warwickshire win so that Lancashire get the title.

Why was Crane selected and then not used until it was too late--even then he took five wickets and got us to within an ace of victory. If he had come on half an hour earlier we would be champions now

One ball away from being champions - end up 4th.

You can look at it that way but at the end of the day our batting was nowhere near good enough, the first couple of games of the season apart, but against weak bowling, all season. That has to be corrected if we want to win the championship. We need at least one real opener who knows what to do with dobby seamers bowling straight on favourable wickets. We need to sort out where we are with Aneurin Donald as well, if he's going to play no part again next season he probably needs to be replaced. Need to trim down the fringe players like Fuller and Wood and replace them with serious concurrents for first team places.

I see that we've signed Whiteley for the one day games already, that's a start but it's no help for real cricket, ie the CC.

No one has answered why Crane was selected and not used. Also, excuse my ignorance but the points system seems to show we won half a match, don't understand the points system can anyone explain?

Sides went into the 3 'divisions' with half the points gained from their group games against the other side from their group, so Hants carried over half the points from their matches with Somerset, a drawe and a loss, who we then didn't play in the divisional matches. It was only half because we only went on to play the other division 1 teams once each, whereas we had played Somerset twice.

I suspect that Crane wasn't used at the start of the Lancs innings because we just didn't have enough runs to play with. Probably not a lot in the wicket for him apart from a bit of bowlers footfall rough and we couldn't really afford for him to get tonked. We needed at least another 30 runs and apart from the stalwarts Vince and Dawson the entire side failed with the bat.

Exactly that. Crane can expensive and he needed Lancs to be chasing a bigger target. To get as close as we did with such a poor batting line up is pretty amazing.

Yes, but the fact is he took five wkts in the short time he did bowl. If you don't trust your bowlers don't pick them, we could have done with another batsman

Only player I can think who played for both in recent times in Michael Lumb... Any others?

Peter Hartley but nearly 40 when he joined so unlikely. The Morris brothers early 2000s, and Alex played for Barnsley CC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Morris

Zac got into a bit of bother involving the sauce in his time at Hants (allegedly quite a few of the squad liked a drop at the time). Don’t know if he played for Barnsley but he says he is living there https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zac_Morris https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/hampshire-suspend-zac-morris-following-drinking-incident-101651
