Che gets rocks for being one footed and then gets no credit for scoring a nice goal with his favoured foot.

Saintsweb logic at it finest, the only reason it went in is because he is shit and one footed. Lucky he wasn't a better finisher because he may have missed.

For the illiterate, the point isn't whether the Palace goal was a good or bad finish. It's whether it shows that he's a good finisher.

And the answer is, it doesn't. He's a terrible finisher, as the last five games or so have demonstrated over and over.

I get your wider point, but I was responding to your point that it was a jammy finish. That was a bit silly.

Napoleon would have had something to say about that.

In reply to the original question.... No.. No we couldn't do better... Not on our budget anyway & Che offers more than goals.. his work rate and positioning is generally pretty good... Offers more than minimino

Indeed. When was the last time our second best striker was this good?

In relative terms? Sharp or Barnard second to Lambert.

In premier league terms...Pahars? Phillips should have been but never got there for us.

Depends on how you define striker. Mane, Tadic, Pelle and Long wasn't that long ago and is arguably the best set of forwards we have ever had.

22 goals in 64 league games is pretty good, especially as his second season was for a team that finished 20th.

You’re kidding? Phillips was good for us. Quality player.

Maybe the final season and the way he left has tainted my memory, I certainly didn't realise his record was as good for us as it was.

Some fans saw him as a bit of disappointment at the time because he didn't score as many for us as he did at Sunderland, but his all round play was quality and a real asset. And I'm not just saying that to make an Adams comparison

That idiot Redknapp dropped him  in that must win game against Man Utd !!

Despise that tool!

Che is very much a confidence player his all round contribution for team shouldn’t be under estimated but it’s goals that count for strikers we look better up front when he plays.

He's what i'd call a patchy player, he's liable to go on huge stretches without a goal, but when he does get a goal the door opens and he pops up with 5 or so in a short space.

But even during his runs of no goals, he's not ineffective by any means. Assists, hold up play, stretching CB's etc. He's still doing all of that.

It's not worth underestimating his partnership with Ings either, which has really flourished since the Lockdown football last year - the period between June - Dec. From December onwards Ings has just had injury after injury, so that partnership has been disrupted a lot and it's all fallen on Adams shoulders.

'If' Ings can stay fit next year there is easily 30-35 goals in that front two, IMO. And for a club of our size that's huge.

So what about Ralph dropping him for the semi final. If Redknapp is an idiot dropping Philips for our biggest game of the season, then surely Ralph is the same. Especially, as he’s a confidence player. Watching Redmond mince around in his place must be confidence sapping.

Adams should have played.

So I think with Tuesday in mind and need to protect Stu and Ings there was a choice between 2 Minamino wasn’t as bad as against Palace yesterday.

Redmond should have got the hook but maybe Ralph felt that would have sapped his confidence more.

If he starts Tuesday then that should really piss off those on bench.

And quite a few on here, I suspect.
