Stop twisting my words. I did not say it was a good time for football, I was asking why it is a bad time. Those two things are not the same.

So if it’s not a good time for football, it’s a bad time then. Right? You’ve answered the question yourself.

No I did not. Asking why something is not a good time, does not mean I have taken a position that it is a bad time or a good time. It was a question.

So other than just being argumentative and coming across as an absolute loser who sits at home watching songs of praises on a Sunday with his mum how about contributing to the discussion.

Do you think that a Sunday 6:30 kick off, is a bad time for a football match?

Especially an FA cup semi final, which (maybe unbelievable to you) some might want to enjoy a few beers whilst watching and to potentially celebrate after.

1) Asking a question for clarification is not being argumentative.

2) You (and others) are resorting to petty, inaccurate and personal insults.

3) Given none of us can go to Wembley, it being on Sunday early evening doesn't really matter. A few beers can still be enjoyed without it impacting on work the next day. Why does a semi final win require getting absolutely hammered?

City and Chelsea fans are pissed too, they both play in Europe in the week so would surely make sense to have their game on the Sunday to give them the extra day to recover, whereas us and Leicester aren't involved in Europe. Slightly bizarre from the FA.

Sunday at 6.30? Damn, only just seen that. Disappointing. Was hoping for an afternoon game and a nice day of weather so I could put the tv outside and watch the game with some pals over a few beers.

Prob take the Monday as a day off, just in case.

MLG is not not not not actually not not a twat. Which I'm not saying he is good at not not being a twat but neither am I not not saying he is bad at not being not a twat.

Me and a couple of lads who go away were looking forward to watching this with a load of beers in the garden or pub garden. Might have travelled up and hit a few pubs in London if it was nice weather as we haven’t been away together since West Ham at the end of February 2020. And they stick it at fucking 6.30pm on a Sunday night with work the next day.

Anyone who can’t see that’s a shit kick off time and day is a complete and utter moron.

Exactly.

Next best thing to being at the game would have been to watch it with a few pals in a beer garden, make a day out for it.

When ever the match is scheduled for there is SFA we can do about it ,so no point in whinging . But we can all start keeping our eyes and ears open for public spaces( i.e pubs and clubs with large outside areas) that may be showing the match live . It would be great to be with other Saints fans having a few beers win or lose.

I have been told that there is a large marquee being erected outside The Saints pub in Millbrook , could be a possibility ?

Will Walcott and Ings be fit for selection?  Ralph hinted before the break that Theo was not far away and that Ings is hopeful to be fit after the internationals.  The game is 3 weeks away, so a good chance, surely?

They have both been in the training pics posted this week, so looking good.

I can't see the real problem with a sunday evening slot; late sunday roast and then settle down with a nice bottle of wine and watch the football. Hopefully a good end to the weekend.

For me, it kind of changes the dynamic of watching the game. Like you I’ll likely open a bottle of wine and watch at home. If the game had been Saturday afternoon, or even earlier on Sunday afternoon, I’d likely have watched it either in the garden at mine with friends, or at theirs. Last year when rule of six came in outdoors and Saints played Norwich in the resumption of football I had pals all round mine. It was a lovely day of weather and we watched the game outside. Was hoping for the same for the semi, but Sunday 630 is a bit late for that.

Once again the interests of the true fans are trampled over. Yet they still talk about the FA Cup having lost its magic. Football is now a commodity to be traded on the market. They have bought the product but destroyed its soul in the process.

There used to be a time when the FA Cup semi final was not shown live on television at all and the only way you could watch it was going to the match or on newsreels at a later date. Did football have a 'soul' then?

It used to have a soul. Television stole it.

You'll have to do that for the final.

The FA cup semi final lost its magic when they started playing them at Wembley.

Even less so when they allowed Tottenham to have a whole season there.

Playing at Wembley isn’t what it used to be.

commercially, the FA have done well, but they’ve ruined the integrity of their cups as a result.

Ings is usually a slow starter coming back from injury, so I don't expect any fireworks, but would be very happy if he gets a brace.

Would the new Wembley exist with out the extra games, or would we still be in the crumbling twin towers. The extra two semis and three play off games made it financially viable.

Yes, the FA could not have afforded the new stadium without agreeing to stage these games there. It cost something like £130 million just to demolish the old one. Then selling the corporate seats helped with the rest of the finance. The result is a capacity for ‘true’ fans not much different from the old.

The FA cup lost some magic with mass tv coverage of other football. Growing up in the 70's and 80's the sport on TV calendar was a big deal, the FA Cup final, league cup final, Wimbledon, pilkington cup final, 5 nations, snooker final, darts, grand national (I think the Derby was still on in the week), the open, even the boat race. You would watch them all, now football is on everyday and we are busy doing other stuff.

Yep, agreed. Cup final day used to be special as there weren’t too many games shown live at other times throughout the season. I Always remember tuning in dead early for the cup final though, tv cameras on the team bus etc. Once Sky came in and there were multiple games on every week, the status of the FA cup was always going to dip. I still always tune in for the final these days though, sun shining on the Wembley pitch is a nostalgic sight.

I do think semi finals at neutral grounds would be better, as getting to Wembley should be the preserve for just finalists. Not going to happen though.

I don't know the facts on this but are there less corporates at the semis, do more proper fans get to go?

Clubs certainly get a bigger allocation for SF but that may be due to the fact that the FA don't distribute as many tickets , if at all, to all other clubs. I think many of the corporate seats are available for all showpiece games (so not JPT etc, but internationals, FA & League Cup).

Thanks, that makes sense. That's was why more fans got to go to the league Cup final in the past, less old boys getting tickets.

The FA have always regarded the Cup Final as their big event which is why so many tickets get distributed to clubs and officials. Our local referees society in Eastleigh used to get allocated a dozen or so like all the others.

They used to be seen as perks by the players but the FA tightened up on that some time ago.

I don't think we even sold out our allocation last time we got to the semis vs Chelsea in 2018.  I had no trouble getting a ticket even though I hadn't been to many games that year and there were loads of empty seats where I was.  The fact that tickets were £90+ may have had something to do with it.

Yeah we didn't sell out, combination of high prices, Sunday game, we'd been at Wembley year before, no one gave us a chance , we were in bottom 3 at the time.

Not unique to Saints, Chelsea struggled to sell and allowed season ticket holders and members to buy up to 4 each, for some reason Saints capped it to one per customer number I think.

I do seriously think they should look at using the 4th CL spot for the winner of the FA cup. It’d certainly add some want and need to win it for most teams.

or even 3rd and 4th for winner of league and FA cup. So only top 2 get a champions league place.

It’ll never be agreed to though, the big 6 will worry that another team can catch up with them, which is almost impossible at the moment.

I doubt the FA or Premier league would be keen as well as it’d lower their coefficient if teams like us made it in there.

The club completely fucked up the sale of those, they should have just allowed any member to buy whatever they wanted from the off, would have sold out easy IMO.

If I remember rightly, the tickets were a silly price. £50+ and kids weren’t much cheaper.

Given we’d been there the year or 2 before and were absolutely terrible at the time, I don’t think we’d have sold out to be honest. If priced sensibly, then possibly.

Yeah.

If I remember right, it wasn't the price it was more a case of who could buy tickets and who for.

If they'd removed all the 'hoop jumping' they'd have sold out the lot.

I dunno, their ticket policy almost put me off as the lads I usually go with were all in different categories. Wembley is a day out so people should have been able to buy groups of tickets for their family or friends from the off.

I do agree, they obviously anticipated that we’d sell more.

I do have an issue with non ST holders getting tickets before those who have a ST and have more credits (I.e away games).

Personally, I think they should give an early bird option of like say 5 days to those who have x amount of credits (in cases such as Wembley, it’ll be about 1 or 2 away games) and a ST to pick the best seats, then open it up to ST holders to buy more for them and whoever after that.

They’re kind of damned if they do, damned if they don’t really.

If tickets were cheaper, I’ve no doubt we’d have sold more though. It’s an expensive day out when you factor in £50+ for a ticket, then travel and refreshment costs. Easily a 100£ day for 1 person (and that’s being conservative), which potentially you’ll need to repeat again in a months time.

The FA cup isn’t what it was, it’s been down graded and ruined by a series of small steps that taken individually don’t appear much, but added together has killed it. It’s just like foreign cups were/are.

Without getting into all the cup win / relegation arguments, you can bet your life Brendan Rodgers would rather finish 4th than win the cup. Think about that for a minute, a club that have never won the cup, a manager that’s won fuck all in England and he’d rather finish 4th ( I realise he could have both). That’s how far it’s fallen.
