Is the FA Cup still a backdoor for Europe with Chelsea surely going to secure a spot through the league?

I remember it always being as such years ago, but somewhere in the back of my mind i'm telling myself that i'm sure they done away with it and revamped the pathways into Europe and it's not how it used to be.

Only the winner of the FA Cup gets a European place. If the winner has another path to Europe then it goes to a team on league placing, not the runner up of the FA Cup.

I know it used to be that if the winner was already guaranteed an European place, the runner-up was awarded it. I knew the changed it to something like that, shame really, felt more of an achievement that way rather than throwing it back to the league which doesn't have anything to do with the cup.

Another barrier to a potentially " smaller club " getting a bit of glory. Can't have that can we.

It was always bs that runner up should get in though. If giving to also rans then agree fairer to go on league position

Exactly. FA Cup being completely seperate to the league pyramid. Not really fair, if say, a League One or Two side magically found their way to an FA Cup final, beaten by a Man Utd, but the european place that used to go to the runners-up, gets thrown back to a middling EPL side. Definitely stunts any opportunity for a smaller club to get their chance at glory and maybe only opportunity at Europe that they'd ever have, for doing so well in a cup competition, even if they did fall at the last hurdle.

Glad Walcott is dropped. Djenepo is better. Rest of the team picks itself minus Che vs Redmond which I think is pretty 50/50 tbh

Bit weird that Adams, Ings and Walcott have all played really well up top together in any combination of the two but we aren't going with it recently. Redmond is playing better, but if he's up top I'd rather he be running off the shoulder of the last man than coming deep - if he's going to drop deep he may as well play off the left or right.

I could be wrong but I think it was UEFA who stopped us from using the FA Cup Runners-Up be given a direct spot in the Europa League group stage.

I think it's fair enough tho that 7th place gets the berth, we benefited from it when we qualified for the Europa League after the 2014-15 season anyway.

Pre match show on YouTube shows the highlights of the women's FA cup and I thought the presenter says to Hammond "not seen you bury one in them, Dean".

Was talking about the goals, but made me double take.

Didn't expect Djenepo although not against his selection. He's a wild card and you never know what you are going to get. If it is one of his good days he'll cause Leicester plenty of problems. I think we're setting up to press Schmiechel when they pass back to him as a route to put them under pressure.

Think Djenepo could be the key to unlocking the door either by way of a pen or a JWP ‘special’ from a free-kick outside the box. This will definitely be a more entertaining game than the City / Chelski game, but it’s difficult to call. We’re definitely the underdog and the team without good form, but Leicester are not looking everything themselves lately. I think it could be a 2-1 to them, but if we’re exceptional then we could pull off a shock. COYS!

We need to start fast and make them feel vulnerable or it'll be one way traffic. Doesn't look as though we've picked a side to sit back so let's get on the front foot and give it a real good go.

So just one change from the atrocious performance against West brom. Same formation etc. Hope he proves me wrong but I can't understand how he think it'll be any different.
