Then I kept spotting him in or around the edge of their area. Unsure if he was told to try out some new tactic or simply deserted his defensive duties due to being bored shitless with nothing to do back there. Makes sense I guess, Diallo is a great 1v1 defender and Bertrand has good distribution. City do the same sometimes when holding a lead.

Saint Billy Posted 20 March, 2021 Share Posted 20 March, 2021 For once Redmond showed what he has under the bonnet. Definitely man of the match with Armstrong a close second. Redmond is a frustrating player who has so much ability but only uses it when his head allows him. Hopefully this game will boost his confidence so that he can finish the season on a high. Well done saints, that was a bit more like early season, just keep it going against tougher opposition.

I think we need better and full back area is a must for recruiting in summer to play this formation. To be hyper critical today I didn’t understand why brought on Tella wouldn’t it have been useful to give Jankewitz a little run out to get over United debacle and sit between JWP and Diallo shut it all down. 100% agree Jankewitz should of got on the pitch for at least 15 minutes. He has so much to prove to the fans and it would of been a pressure free situation.

He controls the ball when at full tilt almost as good as Lallana used to do, ensuring he maximises every break opportunity. Love watching him play. I say this every time, but Diallo is a proper player. So talented. Armstrong was outstanding - he is such a good mover. I'd like to see him run for a medal in Tokyo later this year. The 400m would suit him perfectly. KWP (I'm ready to declare him better than Clyne was in his pomp) Redmond, JWP and Diallo also very good. Adams unlucky. Good confidence boosting win.

If Ings leaves his replacement needs to be a goalscorer. Redmond is fine as a backup for a striker or in combination with a regular goalscorer. But in no way would it be a good idea to view Redmond as an Ings replacement.

If Ralph can get them brave, positive and using their automisms during the next few weeks, maybe we could go on another end of season run in the league?

Not to detract from the long awaited performance from redmond though.

Smirking_Saint Posted 21 March, 2021 Share Posted 21 March, 2021 Huge performance from a morale perspective yesterday and obviously has the added bonus that we will be in another Wembley semi final (that we won't be able to attend......😫) More so than what it meant to us as a fan I think it was required to reaffirm direction, and although I do feel like we are safe, I think its important to carry on this momentum into our next couple of games. The whole team in general performed brilliantly, it was for me, a performance that has been significantly lacking for a while (as we all know). The players, for want of any other descriptives, turned up. We showed a level of passion, work ethic, decisiveness and responsibility in key areas that we just haven't seen since January. Diallo again is hugely impressive for me, its vitally important that we have a player of his quality to fill in for Romeu (and I actually think ID's dynamism is more important). KWP again showing why he is a vital piece of this side and the way we play Redmond, what a performance, one that we have all been waiting for from him. Im not going to jump to any conclusions here, in a similar vein as to how I held back my thoughts when he was out of form. Simply put, Redmond has this performance in his locker, but for some reason that I haven't ever been able to fathom we just do not see it with any consistency. Far too often in games we cry out for a player to take on their man, commit the fullback and CB if nothing more than to create space. Is that a mental issue or a tactical one ? Hopefully we see more of it moving forward.

A few good performances then when things don’t come off he goes into up his shell back to turning sideways and backwards. Such a confidence player, hopefully he can go on a run of good form now and he should be buzzing after probably his best game since he arrived.
Charlie Wayman Posted 21 March, 2021 Share Posted 21 March, 2021 The mistake Bournemouth made was to concentrate on trying to disrupt our play by early pressing rather than concentrate on their own game. Sadly for them they were not good enough or fast enough to do it, at times our slick, fast inter-change passing left them struggling and frequently hopelessly out of shape. What was good is the way we responded to their naivety by then attacking the gaps in their shape and for once finishing clinically helped of course by Bournemouth giving us space and time. Great win and on to the next hurdle. It is likely we will face PL opposition and a team that knows better how to deal with our tactics but with Ings & Walcott back we should still be able to give a good account of ourselves especially if our automatism is on an upward trajectory that seemingly was rediscovered on the training ground last week. I have been a critic of Redmond, not because of any lack of ability on his part but for his inability to focus and concentrate completely on the game in a single minded way. In the days when we were able to watch games, there were often times during warm ups when he really wasn't putting the effort into exercising properly, giving the impression of just mucking around. He seems to be easily distracted (as indeed we saw in his post match interview yesterday). If he can concentrate on his game 100% for 90 minutes than as we saw yesterday he can be quite the player, so let's hope he can keep it up.

Andy Durman Posted 21 March, 2021 Share Posted 21 March, 2021 I won’t get carried away with this win. Our first goal came against the run of play. Our 10’s did not start this game well and made a lot of poor decisions by not playing the way they were facing or simple. A better team would have capitalised on the poor back pass by Redmond or the cross field pass by Djenepo, or Djenepo turning to go down the line, when Armstrong was in perfect position to receive. I also watched Adam’s again cut back to his right, instead of finishing with his left. Redmond makes too many blind flicks. He needs to know where he’s playing. It’s instinctive but ultimately it gives away possession far too often. I also noticed the numerous times when we could have played forward, but decided to check back. Bournemouth were poor. Defensively very poor. They seemed like a team exhausted. They were slow. Saints have got to reintroduce good habits, but confidence and belief in the system will be very positive going forward. Hassenhuttl now needs to concentrate on improving the detail. Sad Jankewitz couldn’t get 15 mins. Missed opportunity.

Ok fair enough, he's probably ok for that but if you're talking permanently should Ings leave then no way. Although I can't honestly see who would sign Ings in the top 6 with his injury record. I'd be inclined to keep Danny and move on Obafemi or Lundulu. I'd rather it was Obefemi as the bloke can't stay fit and I haven't seen enough of Lundulu to say. We need another striker because one of those lot are going to be moved in the summer imo.

Scummer Posted 21 March, 2021 Share Posted 21 March, 2021 (edited) When you play a lower league team they are often up for it at the start.
