I think I would go as far as to say that it is unlikely that you will ever see a team from outside the top flight win the FA Cup again, unless there is some dramatic change in the way football in this country is organised or there is some freak set of circumstances. The gulf between the PL and Championship these days is far bigger than it was in the 1970/80s.

Some weirdos on here. 
 

I’m just glad I was around when winning the cup did mean something. We’re  never going to win fuck all worthwhile if we give up on the cup. A second division team in the quarter final, we should be chomping at the bit.

Haven’t seen many people who aren’t massively up for winning the cup here, just a proportion saying no to a hypothetical trade (Premier League status for winning the FA Cup again).

How about winning the cup, and staying up. In other words play your best side, week in, week out.

Some strange responses on this thread. It’s the biggest game of the season in my eyes. Winning the cup doesn’t have to mean getting relegated you know... not that we will anyway, we’re safe as houses already.

Realistically there’s only 2 competitions we have a chance of winning each season, and they should always be the priority for a club our size IMO. Who cares what the next rounds hold - in a one off match between 2 teams anything can happen.

i was born in 85, went to my first game in 94, was there in 03 and 17, and I really hope that by the day I die I’ve seen my team lift a meaningful trophy, just to experience that emotion.

Behave. Sure, I want us to have a proper go at winning the FA Cup, but nobody should be OK with us getting relegated (not that we are, we'll stay up).

We despatched a Championship-level team in Sheffield United recently; we're better than Bournemouth, easily. It's up to the players to be brave and show that on the pitch.

kind of feel the same. Regelation would cause a financial meltdown, so that is not to be underestimated, but strongest sides should be put out for the cup while we are in the top flight (you never get abetter chance to win it)...and to be fair they have. Ralf put his best side out for the Arsenal game in the cup, not the league shortly after, while Arsenal did the reverse. 

This season has been a nightmare. Win the cup and we can forget the league and the trophy will be part of our history. I want to see us with four trophies, the same as the cunts down the road by the end of my lifetime.

I am genuinely shocked at some of the negativity around today. 

Our season has gone massively downhill, but we have got a real chance of getting to the semi finals of the Cup again (2nd time in 3 years). Then who knows?

As a club it's about time we won some major silverware. Loved the Paint Pot Trophy, Papa Waigo doing his dance and Antonio scoring a cracker. But that's literally all we have won in nearly 30 years of supporting Saints!

There is a worrying sense of inevitability around here today. 

I totally understand that. Our league form has been either atrocious or unlucky, depending which game you choose to focus on. It is also difficult to erase the memory of those last 25 minutes against an ordinary Brighton side. Our most influential players are missing.

On the other hand we have beaten Arsenal and Wolves to get here. We deserve to be in the 1/4 final and we are playing the lowest ranking side left in the competition.

Over the years I have been here many times before with our team. I am really nervous but looking forward to that euphoric feeling of victory.

It has that feel about it.

For me, it depends how bad the loss is and how grim we are, not just the loss itself.

I don't want to nail my colours to the mast just yet and declare 'Ralph Out' just yet.

I need to see both team lineups today before I'll make my guess at the scoreline.

To each their own. Would rather be able to look back on stories about how I saw us win the cup, rather than excite my grandkids with tales of the time we finished 17th in the league again.

I just think there’s not much to be gained from getting rid at this stage. The season is over if we lose today, so may as well just stumble to the summer and let everyone reassess then personally.

No. We were brilliant at the start of the season, let's not forget that. It's just a case of being more consistent, and I reckon next season with more time between games, Ralph will work out how to achieve that. If next season we're still in the lower bottom half or thereabouts, that for me would be the point to look elsewhere.

Yep. Also, our squad is criminally light in some positions currently and the club needs to address that, not just Ralph. Getting shot of Ralph won't change the fact we only have 2 premier league quality centre midfielders at the club, which is crazy and was bound to catch up with us at some point this season.

If Redmond can’t turn it on against Bournemouth then it has to be his last shot at this for us.   Almost the same Djenepo. 
 

Only two weaknesses I can see, and that is where our creativity and scoring should come from.....   Bertrand a very close third.

Aaannnnd once again Redmond comes off the bench, plays terribly, and is rewarded with a start the next game. That has happened multiple times in the last few months. There is absolutely no incentive for him to fight for his place in the side and improve his performances. Hopefully though he may play better against a side more his level. 

Other than that the side looks good.

Not sure Ralph has much choice with Ings and Obafemi injured and Minamino is cup tied. The only other options are Tella, who I thought was very poor against Brighton, and N'Lundulu, who hasn't really done anything of note to deserve starting an important game.

Redmond can still have his moments, we'll just have to hope he can take one or two of them today.

Except in nets it’s the exact team I wanted and posted on first page of thread, so can’t complain. I presume Redmond will play up top. 
 

The whole thing depends on whether we score early. If it’s still 0-0, or god forbid we’re behind after half an hour, I’ll worry. We do start well most games so if we can score, I think we’ll blow them away. I’ve a sneaky feeling Redmond will be MoTM. 1-3.

If he plays well we'll be delighted. If he plays terribly once again people will point it out. 

Seeing him on the team sheet is such a massive downer. Bournemouth stand a far better chance of winning with him in the team than with him on the bench. Let's hope he rediscovers some form today. Please. PLEASE!!!!
