102 games each

Branfoot 38 wins

26 draws

38 losses

goals scored 120

against 129

Ralph 38 wins

21 draws

43 losses

goals scored 139

goals against 156

Blimey Branfoot has a better record than our Ralph. I had no idea we are this crap!

The gospel according to Wikipedia lists Branfoot as having managed 128 games, not 102. I assume you have a more reliable source? I wouldn’t want to misrepresent Ralph, with those extra 26 games he could easily add another win and two draws to his tally.

The football under Branfoot was atrocious. But there were genuine talents in the team like Le Tiss and Shearer. There was also passion from others even if it was all long ball. I don't really see either from our current crop. Danny & Prowsey are decent but no more. Armstrong is good too but not top class. Bertrand was great but is in decline & this is KWP's first regular starting role, where he's started well. Beyond that, there's not much. Ralph is doing his best but he's too fixated on one style and seemingly can't or won't adapt during games when things aren't going well. I'm beginning to wonder if that's the cause of the heads going down when things go wrong. The players can see if something's not working but also know we will do nothing to change it up, to try to make a difference. They look knackered and stale all of a sudden and don't have the fighting spirit Branfoot's squad had to at least battle. Branfoot also doesn't have the real embarrassment of 2 9-0 defeats on his record. Ralph doesn't seem to have the tactical or motivational nous to help them out either. Very worrying. We may stay up this season but not next if this continues.

I think what is being compared is Branfoot's league record - 2 and a half seasons of 42 match league campaigns, so about 100 games - with Ralph's entire Saints career.

So not a perfect comparison.

I guess Ralph’s 102 games have been a good 102 whereas Branfoots were bad ones

Branfoot was a shit manager and his failure all his fault entirely.

Ralph is a genius manager whose failure entirely due to injuries, VAR, lack of funds, back luck, the shit players Puel bought four years ago, the owner, Les Reed, referees, the weather and of course "the big picture" of the fundamental problems at the club as a whole.

Time you took your bluster, sarcasm and algorithm book back to the "Is anyone looking nervously over their shoulder" thread.

It’s a shame we’re not going anymore.
Was it red cards at the Newcastle game or white, can’t remember.
If we tried that, we might win with a couple of wonder goals

There was also a sit in on the Milton road after one game. About 500 stayed, a few stewards and a couple of coppers came along and told everyone to get up and go home, so everyone did, it was over in about 5 minutes. We needed a few more feminists there to get under the old bills skin.

Agreed. Another think i'd like to add is that Ralphs 16th and 11th placed finishes have been good finishes, whereas Puels 8th was poor, so i'd happily take a good 16th over a poor 8th every season.

Uncomfortable comparison (football was dire under Branfoot but no contest on the fight - this team would be scared to leave a luxury spa with their wash bags if faced with some of the players on those teams - but at least now under the current regime, we are market ‘disrupters’ so the 9-0 defeats are just a clever commercial strategy for bouncing back and being different.

Are you seriously trying to compare league positions today with twenty years ago?

Seriously?

And what does that have to do with Branfoot v Ralph?

Branfoot got 10 home wins and 6 home draws in 1992-1993 (21 home games). What was Puel's home record?

You’re right, Puels success means they aren’t comparable at the moment

I was very much Puel out and I’d probably prefer Ralph even still. However, now isn’t the time to start arguing that Puel’s record wasn’t better, you’re on a hiding to nothing.

So is comparing the present day to the early nineties relevant or not?

You seem confused.

With another 28 games, he could add a FA Cup trophy as well.
