It was lead story on BBC News just now. The noise level bit is quite interesting because it gives powers to prevent a protest if anyone could be disturbed by the noise. Whether that's a good thing or not is open for debate.

Absolute idiots in Bristol, hope that anyone involved in injuring an officer or damaging police property is arrested and charged.

Expand

They’ve had similar laws like that for years though.  There is one about if someone would be scared, no one actually has to be present and be scared but if someone where then that’s enough to convict. Similar with an agreement to commit a crime, that crime doesn’t have to happen, someone could even change their mind but agreement is enough.

Riot police in full protective gear formed a barricade in front of the station, but the officers didn't engage with the protesters at all.

They stood by as their shields and vans were daubed with graffiti - some of it profane and some of it hostile towards the police themselves and Home Secretary Priti Patel.

Then the atmosphere took a marked turn when the first police vehicle was set on fire. Huge plumes of black smoke rose up from Bridewell Street.

A small number of protesters jumped on to the roof of a second police van, thumping on the glass as the officers tried to reverse.

Objects were being thrown by protesters into the crowd and still the police did not move from their positions.

Two police vehicles were set on fire, damage was caused to a police station, one officer suffered a broken arm and another suffered broken ribs, the force added.

You can always tell if it’s a left or right wing protest by the chants from the crowd (other than the pink hair, of course).

The left haven’t quite nailed them yet as shown by the ‘shame on you’ chants in this video. They’re the sort of type to shout ‘the referee needs glasses’ at a football match.

Bristol. Cringey chants. Pink hair. Typical hard left tag lines, ACAB, Defund the police.

nailed on left wing, probably hijacked by Antifa, like every other protest that ends in violence.

Anyone should be allowed the right to protest but anyone stepping out of line and resorting to violence, should also be allowed the right to get a baton around the head and a water cannon fired at them.

How unlike you not to recognise when a peaceful vigil (and let's be frank, that's exactly what it was for many hours before the speeches started), gets highjacked by those with a different agenda and becomes something else.

You'd be right at home in Police Academy.

I'm not sure how a handful of drones or a cyber-warfare specialist can replace 'boots on the ground" in a peace keeping or disaster relief role. The British army is getting close in total size to the numbers Wellington had in the Waterloo campaign.

Not sure it's down to Cressida Dick though.

That's what defunding is, re-directing funds to other services. So there's no need to be scared of the term like some people are.

I don't think it's that relevant an idea in this country, but if there are activities that would benefit from being done by another agency then it's worth exploring, don't you think.

I don’t see the logic in cutting the army and spending billions on nukes, robots and drones. If this virus had been really deadly we probably would have needed the army to step in and help keep the country functioning.

I expect if you follow where the money goes there will be a load of Tory donors with shares in drone/nuke/tech companies at the end.

I read about it on the Guardian website at about 10pm last night. It was on BBC breaking news twitter before 9pm. It was a provincial demonstration that would only get reported on if there was mass disorder, there was and it was reported on.

Just checked the Daily Mail twitter to see how late the woke Beeb and Guardian were at reporting it. They had it as breaking news at 9.30pm.

There's a world of difference between temporary floating hospitals to deal with overflow, and your idea of shoving everyone with Covid onto boats. We're still getting 5000 + cases a day - christ knows where you'd want to put them all.

And to be fair, it was a hypothetical answer to the hypothetical question of what more the Government "could" be doing to control infections.  If used at the right time it could have been as effective as quarantine hotels have been in Australia.

It's just a pity that aintclever, ain't clever enough to understand something that is hypothetical.
