Who should we buy from the relegated sides?

Assuming bottom three remains as now, Robinson from Fulham if they don’t want too much money to retain their bigger earners if they do go down - not certain they will if Saints get something from Brighton and Newcastle’s injuries. Although last 2 results have hurt them. He’s raw but would suit Ralph’s system as long as we don’t expect peak Bertrand.

Only other player I can think of where there’s a need is Pereira and well out of Gao’s league, he will go to a properly-funded and backed top flight outfit. We will be lucky to get Wycombe and Wednesday’s free agents if we still haven’t been sold.

Reed has grown into this season but is he better than a fit Diallo, Romeu or JWP? For me, no. Andresen as others have said as Vesty only has a year left on his deal but we would pay for more than the original £6-7m estimate Lyon had. Johnstone has done well but could be David Marshall MK2 and there’s so many other gaps - LB, AMR, AML, CF, another RB - that without a new owner and 3 senior keepers in the   squad - Gunn’s loan kicks the Les Reed can down the road, it won’t be priority.

With a new owner with some funds at least, all areas bar CM and maybe CB if Vest signed up need significant spending,

In terms of positions we need and being realistic, I can think of two

Matheus Pereira. Could be the Tadic type no10 we've been crying out for.

Darnell Furlong - Would give great competition for KWP at RB. Similar player who provides a good attacking threat.

We would be priced out of anyone decent as imagine the relegated clubs will want to keep most of their good players to have a go at coming back up.

Robinson has also impressed me, but we won't spend £15m on a back up LB and if Bertrand leaves on a free then where does the cash come from to replace him?

#10 is probably our least needed position but Lookman is known to Ralph and has done well.

Not our usual style of player but could do worse than Lundstram on a free?

Josh Maja looks pretty decent, and Lookman yes. Although think Fulham might still stay up. Full backs are possibly more key though, but cant think of any that I've thought are particularly great, other than that Swedish guy who played for Newcastle against us!

Also, Saint-Maximim if we're somehow sold and have a budget of more than £3 mill plus sales to buy 6 new players.

What about players from last season's relegated teams? There's quite a few players that Norwich, Bournemouth and Watford have held onto, but if they don't go up this season would have thought they'd be more likely to sell this summer as it'll be a much bigger gamble holding on to them next season (is it still 2 years worth of parachute payments they get?).

Danjuma from Bournemouth particularly if they don't come back up.

Always thought Brooks at Bournemouth was a good player.

Not many others that stand out.

Norwich are definitely coming back up, hopefully Brentford with them to have a chance to do the new ground if things are back to normal. I'd like to see Barnsley come up through the play offs, decent trip and would struggle in the Prem (assuming we stay up of course)

It'd be great to have Millwall in the Premier league just to see the reaction of the twats on Sky. A packed Den with their fans giving it large would make great viewing.

Jayden Bogle from Sheffield United. He is an attacking right back, only 20 years old, but played 70+ games for Derby before transferring to the blades last summer. I think he cost around £4m. He has had a few injuries this season so has only played around 10 games in the premiership and those have been as RWB. If we could get him for around £3m he would be a good deputy for KWP with premier games under his belt, extensive championship experience and lots of potential for the future.

I'm assuming that our budget isn't going to be big, but that sort of purchase makes sense.

That Sarr fella at Watford is supposed to be good but doubt we have the budget for him or others unless there is a decent return on players going out.

Watford also have a couple of decent right backs as well!

Yeah, linked with huge money moves last summer.  Not exactly tearing it up in the Championship mind, maybe for a reasonable fee.

Watched a couple of Watford games - bit flash in the pan, not jumping out as HCDAJFU by any stretch of the imagination  - the fact he is still there despite the Oooo's and Ahhhh's when he turned up for them says much about what folk in the game think of him, 2 windows gone and he is still there. £30m they paid for him

We all know full well we won’t buy anyone from the relegated sides. We’ll be linked with cheaper lesser known options from across Europe, and the transfers will drag on and on so long that we’ll be convinced they’re outstanding players despite the fact we’d never heard of them until a few weeks prior, before they end up signing for some lesser team and we bring in someone else nobody has heard of on loan instead.

Anguissa looked decent player last night,  certainly add some much needed muscle to our midfield

Agree - has seemed decent when I have watched him although that isn’t a great deal

Andersen from Fulham would make a nice Danish partner for Vest. Although not sure he isn’t a loan from somewhere.

Damn first post beat me to it, although I think the only situation we could afford him and would be signing a new centreback would be if Vestergaard was sold.

I like Pereira and Diangana at West Brom, other than them and Anderson no-one for me. Although I don't think we could afford any of them.

Pereira is a very good player. Would add some much needed creativity to our midfield / no10’s.

Also like Anguissa, but don’t think we need another CM particularly.

Callum Wilson would be an ideal replacement for Ings.

Diagne West Bromwich Albion striker looks to have something about him.

He kept Austin out which probably isn't saying much.

Looks ok for £8m I would think his price would be about.

And bearing in mind West Bromwich Albion are dogshit.

He's on loan there I think? I don't think he's much cop, and he's 30 I think - wouldn't rate him as any more than a squad player. Would add a bit of decent depth I guess, then we could loan out D'lundulu.

I'd sign Conor Gallagher (on loan at WBA from Chelsea). Can play in front of the back four and in number 10 role if needed too. Decent at breaking up the play, is a really good presser of the ball, likes a pop from range and has a nice delivery on him which would give us an alternative to JWP in that area. Sounds like Chelsea want about £9m for him which for a 21 year-old with his versatility would be a great long-term deal and give us real competition in the middle of the park.

If Ralph really does want 2 players in every position, that would mean JWP/Gallagher in one CM slot and Diallo/Romeu in the other as I don't think Smallbone is ever really going to make the cut at this level, especially as he's now got to come back from a very serious injury.

Yeah Gallagher looks a really good player, assumed he’d get a chance at Chelsea after doing well (himself) for WBA. Didn’t realise they seem to be willing to let him go fairly cheap. Jayden Bogle at Sheffield United, wonder if we could get him in to be back up at full back, still only 20.

We've done well with Chelsea signings: Osgood, Monkou, Romeu and Bertie. Sign him up!

I'm conveniently ignoring Speedie and Dixon.

Probably too expensive now. Don't know where our recruitment team were looking when Sheffield United paid just £3.5m in the summer. Versatile attacking full back, could cover both sides and wing back. Not a world beater, but a very decent squad option with bags of potential.

I doubt we'll be shopping in the Premier League or recently relegated. Frees, loans and trying to sniff out a bargain or two from around Europe and the Championship, I'd imagine.

Nah, we'll spend. 4th largest cash reserves in the league. A loan, yes, but we took it for a reason, lots of contracts going into their final year, depressed market for sellers, think we will go in for an overhaul of the squad.

Some interesting players going to be out of contract on this list.

Particularly some decent experienced centrebacks on that list. We need experience and especially a leader in the side.

Jerome Boateng would be a real coup, although probably out of our price range, but Romain Saiss could be a good shout.

I’d have John Lundstram to backup our CM’s too, gets up and down well, big and strong. Adds a bit of steel that we miss when Romeu is out.

Would certainly take Tomas Vaclik, very solid goalkeeper with plenty of european and international experience. Sell McCarthy and let Vaclik and Forster battle it out for number 1

Good shout about Gallagher. He has impressed whenever I have seen him on TV.
