Any love for Redmond?

Just to score a simple 1-1 would be nice. And that’s forgetting all of the missed opportunities due to either being too slow or not wanting to use his left foot.

Correct.

It’s the play station hipster generation I’m afraid. All stats and “support strikers”. When they score their goals and how many they miss, is just as important as bare stats. He’s not a bad player, but that wasn’t the argument. It was whether he’s produced a “good” return, I don’t think he has and his lack of quality is a contributing factor in our average season.

Talking of stalkers, didn’t you get banned from here when you were posting as Always_SFC for your love affair with Glasgow? It was a better place without you buddy.

What are you on about? 🤷‍♂️

What was you’re previous user name then? You’re banging on about a comment that i made, which at the time was true, back in 2017 (which a certain poster also used to do). You ‘Chapel End’ became a member in 2020.

You’ve been rumbled Always. A Shame to have you back.

My last comment on the subject but just to clarify, it wasn't just a comment and  because you banged on about it again and again it sticks in memory and proved to be garbage and deserved to be called out as such

Bye

A good return?

You're either  taking the piss or you’ve got pretty low standards. He’s been average.

I wish he contributed as much as Redmond.

Adams goal record is actually pretty good for a lower Prem team by the way.

He also offers a lot in other aspects of being a striker, hold up, link play, pressing etc, he’s also not that old. Finishing needs some work. I like hit and think we’re a better team with him in it. Redmond too.

Redderz! Get in it's about bloody time you put in a good performance, and that was a great performance. The cynic may suggest that he's found his level against Championship defenders who back off and back off, but let's not take away from a solid 90 minutes from him. Hopefully that can now give him the much needed confidence to go and put a good shift in against Prem teams.

Loved both his finishes especially for his first.

Please keep it up Nathan.

Surely he's too good for that "level"

What I don't get is that he is good at taking people and driving positively at the opposition, he showed all the skills in this game, the pace, the dribbling, even composure, yet many a game he barely tries to do this.

Is it confidence? Is it instructions? (can believe that).

Armstrong, who is probably less known for his pace and dribbling ability, consistently does it against all opposition.

It's 100% confidence related. He said as much after the game. Don't have the exact quote but it was along the lines of that he's not had that confidence much this season and he's trying to put his finger on why that is.

The majority of his decent performances in a Saints shirt have come playing as the second striker rather than out wide because he can pick up the ball in those pockets of space in between the lines - like he did on Saturday. You'd assume though that Ings will come straight back in against Burnley and he'll drop back out wide because he's not going to drop Adams at the moment.

Yup agree. He also seems to be quite an emotional player, he's excellent when he's confident and has self belief, but when he questions himself he goes massively into his shell.  A few years ago, it seems someone put an arm around him, and he was the main man and he thrived. The last 12 months or so, he's struggled a bit with injuries, and not been the main man, it's almost that he struggles to be motivated. He's an odd one that's for sure, but I do believe we're a better side when Redmond is on the pitch and playing well.

I usually like Redmond but yesterday he was terrible. Running into blind alleys and misplacing passes everywhere.

He was dreadful, reminded me of myself playing football, not sure what position he was supposed to be, lost the ball every time he got possession,  looked completely out of his depth. Game over for Nath.

Played well tonight, especially first half.
doesn’t deserve the abuse he gets on here.

Thats funny, i remember seeing him take 5 attempts before he managed to pass to a Saints player and dont remember he beating a player 1 on 1 all game.

Really, maybe when measured against his own low standard he wasn’t terrible, but I wouldn’t give him more than 5/10.

PS I’m not advocating the abuse.

Not really. He's one who should be sold. Not going to improve.

Who’s going to buy him?

It makes me laugh when people throw comments out like he should be sold. I’d imagine he’s reluctant to drop to the championship and If he’s not good enough for us, what other premier league team will fork out £10m or so for him?

Don't sell him, he's a good utility option and easily good enough for the bench for a club our size. Next season him being fourth choice striker and fourth choice attacking mid would be ideal. Armstrong and new player behind Adams and new player (or Ings) with Redmond/Djenepo/Tella/Walcott waiting in the wings as back up is very good for a club our size, we don't need to sell. Shouldn't be a regular started though, not good enough.

Well according to many on here he is good enough for us so that makes him attractive to lower level PL clubs. I'm glad I made you laugh. It makes me laugh when people suggest my opinion made them laugh. Obviously it's not a simple as just going "Redmond for sale folks" and getting a deal done the next day but I genuinely think he is a style of player that will be attractive to someone like Brighton or Newcastle or even Norwich again.

Well I’m sure if there is any interest, the club would listen to offers, if that assures you at all.

the amount of times i sit watching us play, and say "oh ffs Redmond" has been noted within my house. Frustratingly, he could do SO much better but for whatever reason he spends much of the time giving the ball away, slowing up the play, making the wrong decision, committing unnecessary fouls and generally being pretty dog merde.

When on song, he's a real asset. When he isn't, he's a massive liability. A shame he's more the latter.

As football fans, I feel we can all be a little fickle at times - the two go hand in hand - but altho he was once POTY, he has been an empty shirt for quite some time. He has one good game against a championship team and a couple of " he did alright " games and fans forget how awful he has been in the preceding 30 - 40 games. For me, if we can get a fee, he needs to move on. A winger should have you on the edge of your seat and with Redmond Im expecting him to lose the ball or pass it backwards,  and Im normally bang on. Even Djenepo, who lets be honest, no one knows whats gonna happen next, including him, is preferable in that position. For me, thanks for the years but time to go, if poss. Hes not Premier league quality any more but Id be willing to take a punt on a few championship players who might be.

In all seriousness, imagine you were him and you read this thread. It really wouldn't do much for your confidence would it?

He cant expect to be consistently poor in a high profile job and not expect people to react. He's had plenty of chance to make us eat humble pie and never done anything about it.

I'm not sure that our players take to much on here seriously especially as most of it is shyte, however the Redmond comments do have some merit.
