Have Sheff Utd appealed the red card? Ive read a few comments saying they have a number of defenders injured already, what's the true reflection of that? Reminds me a bit of Palace away first game of the season when they supposedly had no fit first team defenders and beat us 1-0.

They've got 6 defenders out including Jagielka with talk they may even change to a 4 man defence as they haven't got 3 CBs to play their normal system.

Then we had better not concede an early goal, because we'll never get through their massed defence.

They have decided not to appeal.

I have yet to understand why Ralph has continued with starting Redmond. I get the point that he is a professional footballer, but he seems to have lost it recently. If he plays tomorrow then I am even more concerned as Sheff U play in red and white stripes and he may think he's on their side. He couldn't tell the difference between our stripes and the Toffees blue as he gave them the ball more often that ours so beware if he's starting. We desperately need those three points tomorrow. Please Ralph, lets do some attacking rather than continue to play crab fashion.

Re Redmond, isn't he in the team to run at the opposition's defence as per Ralph's system? If Theo was fit, Redmond would be on the bench.

Thanks , 6 defenders out sounds like something any team would struggle to cope with, let alone a side at the bottom, something Ralph will hopefully be able to target as a weakness.

We had one defender out (KWP) and couldn't cope so fingers crossed.

No, because if he was I don't think he'd be playing on the left. He's there to cut inside and shoot or run at defences on the edge of the box.  Or tuck in and counter.

Really no excuses tomorrow. They’re not as useless as they were a couple months back, but the way their defence has been decimated we absolutely have to get something.

Additionally, we’ve had 2 more days prep and they’ve played nearly half a game with ten men.

They’ve got injuries, our players are coming back, be very disappointed with anything but a win here.

A win here and the pressure really comes off especially with City up after.

Depends if they want to play football or just sit 11 men behind the ball.

I’m expecting us to win despite our recent form. We’re playing the worst team in the league and they have a depleted squad.

If we have Diallo and KWP, Ralph and the players have no excuses. The players have clearly not given up, because the work rate is there, but we need to make sure we don’t concede early. If we can get ahead, it’ll give the players a huge amount of confidence and I think we’ll grind out a win. COYS

Ferry, Ramsey & Watts played for the U-23s today. They were all on the bench against Everton which suggests that KWP, Diallo & Minamino will at least be in tomorrow's match day squad.

Analysing the injury situation of the league's worst team ahead of a home fixture against them just highlights the wastage of this season.

Point of order - we are away (or were you talking from the perspective of a Sheffield United supporter?)

Looks like they’ve hardly got any fit defenders. But then neither did Newcastle

Or Palace. We've got our hopes up before.

KWP back would be huge for us.

Here’s our record with and without him this season , grim reading.

Be great to have him back, he's obviously an important cog for us both defensively and offensively. That being said, it speaks volumes about the lack of depth/resilience in our team and the rigidness of Ralphs system, that we cant cope without KWP for a stretch of games. He's a good player dont get me wrong, but hes no world beater and only a full back. Shows how crucial it is we bring in decent cover in the summer.

Palace still had plenty of PL experience in Kouyate and Dann to provide cover for them. Not sure if Sheff United have any genuine PL CB cover left with Jagielka, O'Connell, Egan and Basham all missing. Looking like it could be Kean Bryan and Ethan Ampadu at CB in an unfamiliar back four. We wont get a better opportunity to return to both winning and goalscoring ways 🤞🏼

Gotta win, simple as that. No first half or second half psychology - full on effort for 97+ minutes, whatever it takes. Foster in goal. Rest Redmond. Such a shame Romeu is out for this - needed his grit to combat grit. Time for Ings to find the net again, Adams to do the same, Armstrong to show his class, JWP to get free kick opportunities, KWP to be fit and play, Salisu to find the beast in himself, Vest to get that headed goal and keep them out, Bednarek to score and get some confidence back...any one of our youth team to step up and finally prove their credentials. 0-4 to the Saints! Gotta dream.

Getting really bored with this losing lark.

A game we should and really must win. And win by a good measure...something like 3-0.

But we won’t...after fannying around passing it backwards and sideways with little attacking threat, it will be 0-0 at around 80mins with us having 65% possession. Ralph will then sub 1 or 2 of our best players and before you can say JWP, we’ll get suckered on the break...probably from a corner which doesn’t clear the 1st man.

It’s the 2021 version of the Southampton way. Don’t underestimate this teams ability to underperform. We’re really not that good.

I'll take three points any which way they come here.

Barnstorming start to finish 4-nil win. Fortunate penalty or Sheffield OG during injury time.

Don't care. Just get the three points.

with 6 defenders out and others in key areas for the blades Ralph surely has to get this one right tactically.. no where to hide if we come away with nothing from this one especially with returning players ..not a 6 pointer for me as Sheffield are already gone but we definitely have to get something today even a draw is something to build on .. I’m going a close 0-1 saints ..mr Armstrong early in the 1st half then squeaky bum for 75 mins as we again run out of steam after 15mins 🙄

Hope this is not a bad omen for later!

Thought I’d see how England were getting on in the cricket, switched on in time to see Root being dismissed and discover England are being trounced....   then to see in the background a fan sat in the crowd wearing a Saints shirt.   Poor fella, not a lot going right at the moment!

Come on Saints... Give us all something to cheer about today.

The key today is to get in front (preferably early doors) because if we don't they will be a nightmare to break down (Newcastle revisited) !

God forbid that they score first because then it'll be even worse !

That said, I'm quite confident, particularly if KWP and Diallo are fit to play....

How old is he now? He’s aged a bit since he joined us

Not the Phoenix tomorrow though!

The Phoenix are nothing compared to last year before they got into post-season (to quote American sports).  All downhill after that. I went to their first ever match in Wellington with a mate from Birmingham who is a great Villa fan. He thought the standard was about average third level in England (division 2?) ie not very good. But I was also lucky to see Wynton Rufer playing in his late 30s and well past his best of course (google if you don't know him). No speed but still some classy touches etc. Truly good footballers really do stand out from the crowd.

Got a good feeling about today. Gritty 2-1 win I think. Ings and Bertrand.

Must be something in the air as I’ve woken up today with a very good feeling. 3-1 Saints!

0-0 bore-fest with Redmond being compared to female genitalia and plenty of 'poor' and ffs thrown in for good measure.

I'd take that. 1 point closer to safety.

Really believe that Ralph needs to think about this week in totality, with three games followed by the international break.  Won’t be popular with some fans but priorities in order for me are:

1. Do not lose to Brighton.  Maintain, or stretch, the gap.

2. Try to beat Sheffield United today.

3. Try to get anything from City midweek.

As a result I would try to play following 4222 in both Saturday games:

Forster

KWP, Bednarek, Vest, Bertrand

Diallo, JWP

Armstrong, Redmond

Ings, Minamino

Then for midweek I would go 541 (or 343 in possession) and try to protect one or two.  So..

Forster

Stephens, Vest, Bednarek, Salisu, Betrand

Djenepo, Jankowicz,  JWP, Teller

Adams
