Yeah except he went to Chelsea first.

Since 2015 (when we signed Romeu) - Barcelona have 0 Champions League wins to Chelsea’s 1 so arguably Chelsea>Saints represents more of a step down than Barca>Saints

I think people have missed the bit I was referring to when I said "lifestyle".

But you know carry on haha

But anyway, I highly fucking doubt we're getting a Barcelona player in our current state on and off the pitch.

Firpo would be a fantastic signing. Bring in him, Danjuma and a keeper and that's our summer sorted. Couple of young depth options would be nice too obviously.

In which case why did you mention Romeu went to Chelsea first? Isn't going fron Barcelona to London a change in lifestyle as well?

Do you also apply the same to the lifestyle change of any foreign player moving to Saints... or only those from Catalonia?

Yes theres the lure of european football, but if he goes there he wont start ahead of Cresswell and will also face competition for backup from Ben Johnson who can play both sides. He walks straight into our starting lineup however

Moyes ‘We will pay you 120k a week.’

Ralph ‘We will pay you 55k a week.’

Shall we move onto the next target?

I always find with Saints that we get our 4/5th choice who would be signed closer to the deadline because nobody else wants them.

West Ham don't pay that much more than us.

I think they pay much more than us. In fact half the West Ham squad get paid more than our best paid player this season.

Sebastien Haller F 25   £6,000,000  £115,385
Andriy Yarmolenko F 30   £5,980,000  £115,000
Jared Bowen F 23   £5,000,000  £96,154
Danny Ings F 27   £3,900,000  £75,000
Takumi Minamino  F 25   £3,900,000  £75,000
Ryan Bertrand D 30   £3,640,000  £70,000

Wonder if it's one of our players?

My money would be on an Everton or Spurs player.

Both their fans are tossers and give their team dogs abuse.

Everton in particular and I'd guess that was Pickford, he gets constant shit on social 24x7 and at Goodison, you can hear it.

They aren’t horrible fans. Arsenals fans are as much like saints as you can get, soft, passive, whingers.

I imagine there will be footballers at every club who will agree with those sentiments. Who can blame them......

Thing is, I completely agree with you, and they've always paid pretty large wages, i.e. they were paying Hernandez £150kpw a few seasons ago, but when the accounts come out, there is never much difference which doesn't make sense to me. Either they pay some players a lot, and then offset it by paying their lesser players very little, and we overpay our average players so they all earn about the same, or their squad is smaller than ours which I'm pretty sure it isn't.

Maybe we just pay more than we think we do?

BTW Minamino on £75k is criminal

Appreciate that quote probably seems silly now, but I think he’s right in saying Mario Lemina could be world class. But there’s reasons he isn’t and why he ended up with us, but on his day he was a class above. I also remember him absolutely dominating Pogba for us on at least one occasion.

I can remember that game too at SMS, perhaps Lemina's first season.
Lemina absolutely bossed Pogba.
He could be so good and so poor in equal measures.

Southampton left searching for centre-backs

Southampton are braced for the departure of Jannik Vestergaard this summer and are looking at their centre-back options.

The Denmark defender, who will go to the European Championships with his country, has previously been on Leicester City’s radar but a move never materialised during the January 2020 window.

He has one year left on his deal at St Mary’s and has been seen as an option for clubs looking for a dependable centre-back following his three years on the south coast.

Heard from a friend who’s mates with a guy in the coaching team that we’re taking a look at Wahid Faghir this summer. 17 years old striker from the Danish league, think he’s just been called up to their Euros squad.

Apparently seems to fit our price bracket of £5m-£10m unless his stock rises with Denmark. Leicester had a bid rejected last year from a quick Google search.

Yep, he was all over the place in that game.  Gave Pogba no time and made him look poor.  The best I've seen him play.  He's certainly capable of it...

For the under 21s, not the senior national team.

Definitely seems to fit our profile though, maybe the alternative to Balogun who we definitely wanted to convince.

Leeds linked with a couple of left backs Javi Galan from Huesca and Romain Perraud from Stade Brest. The latter is said to be too expensive for Leeds, so that would count us out too I guess. I still think Vinegra from Wolves would be an option.

Not sure if mentioned but appears we took Johnly Yfenko on trial the other week. Young left back. Probably looking at strengthening the youngsters/B team.

Thanks for posting. With Gunn at least we’d be rid of one set of wages but the original fee from City stinks when there were already two first team level goalies at the club (debatable I know!). Not that City got that for him but that someone - either Les or Ross paid it. Something a bit awry there. Vesty will be off - if they haven’t offered a new deal and there’s interest. Multi bidders could push it to £20m, unlike most of the duo’s dealings at least that won’t be a thumping loss. Redmond and Theo as the first XI wide options is depressing, let’s hope Tella kicks on next year although RH may see him up front.

If JV goes for decent ££, I wonder if we'll pick up an older Evans/Cahill type CB to play alongside Salisu; some experience and vocal leadership in the backline would be welcome.

Definitely need something new for the wide options.

Sweepstake on date of our first signing (that isn't Theo)?

Sounds like it could another Minamino loan: It’s also understood that while it’s unlikely Minamino will sign permanently, there is scope for him to return temporarily again. However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants the Japan international to report for pre-season to assess whether he can become an important squad player for the Anfield side.

When he was signed on loan I thought it could be good. Because of the FA Cup, the loan rule he was then in and out of tbe team and I think that disrupted his start. I would be ok with him returning as I think he can add some goals (unlike Redmond or Djeneppo, both of whom I'd look to move on), but cant help thinking that we need someone better. Perhaps selling Redmond and Djeneppo and getting one permanent and Minamino would be good.

Posted

I really hope we don't sign Minamino, as I don't believe he is any better than Armstrong, Redmond, Djenepo, Tella or Walcott.  If we signed Minamino, I'd still want us to sign a first choice left wide player.

but so could Pogba and hes supposed to be worth £100m...............just think how many lower league teams he out values the whole squad........ridiculous.

In his own mind and that of his agent he'll expect to oust Cresswell, and the lure of London, European football, and the additional £££ available will probably sway it.

Anyway this is unlikely to be settled quickly despite the press reports.  Junior's been told to "take his time young man, as mama used to say". *

By all means bang your drum, but it goes without saying the standard of defending, and goalkeeping in the clips is pretty dire. Look at the first goal, a GK error he'd only be gifted with playing against us not for us, creating an opportunity that even Shane Long might have hit the post from.

As for the celebration, looks  impressive but knowing our luck he'd do it once in front of the Northam, land on his head and break his neck.

Agreed, more I read about him following the link the more it seemed a good option if we could swing it. Unfortunately we're now distanced from the potential move.
